A/N: Allo everyone ^^

Well I had two more reviewers yaya! ^^ So I guess me begging helped ^^; haha. I know that I had posted this thing as a long chapter; but soon you guys will be getting chapters no one had read before from me! Well, expect me haha but I'm on a roll here! It has been such a long time since I had a writing kick! I'm absolutely loving it. Only bad thing is my muses are now creating new stories as well; but at least they are oneshots...only problem you ask? Its for a cartoon show I never thought I would write a fan fic about ^^; haha you guys will have to check the two one shots out. They should be under the cartoon section. Any-who on to the reviewers!

Good story even though I'm personally a Hiei and Kurama fan but you just don't see many Kuwabara stories. Keep up the good work.

Me: Well thank you ^^. Most people are Hiei and Kurama fans and you are right; there aren't many Kuwabara stories out there. Thank you I totally will keep it up ^^. I appreciate you taking the time to read and even review this story ^^ But do not fret! I add some sense for those fans of all the other guys ^_~. Just to please them a little haha. So I hope you enjoy this new chapter and thank you for reviewing.

I have to say that I am It's Always the Quiet 1s I for got that I was using that name here.

I always look forward to my authors updating and getting feedback from them is a bonus that reviewers don't get most times, I think that raises you in my opinion. ;D

Me: Ahhhhh...cool ^^ I like both of your user names. Well, I'm glad you are enjoying your bonus ^^. I use to do this in all of my stories that were multi-chapter-ed. However, deletion of certain stories by mistakes on the site and time issues made me have to cut that out. It is my favorite thing to do and I'm happy I have the time to go back to it. Awwwww -^^- you make me blush! Any more complements and I think my head will explode hahaha. Thank you so very much for your reviewing ^^ You've been a true follower since the beginning and I thank you ^^. I hope you enjoy this chapter and I promise, a new one will be out next week!

So that's it for my reviewers this time. Before I go on to the story I would like to wish you all; in the USA since its only a USA holiday;

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

I won't be able to be on the computer any other day this week except for today so I figured I would wish you all that here. ^^

I will be trying to post a chapter every week to every other week as I am almost done chapter...43! Four more chapters to write after that one and then I'll start working on the final 'season' chapters! I'll have to take a break for the holidays; posting wise and I'm trying to get chapters that don't end with cliffy's out....I know so un-characteristic of me, but it might take me a while to get fourth 'season' chapters up ^^; I don't want to loose you guys again ^^; Soooooo yeah.

So without dragging this already long author note out any longer; enjoy this chapter!!

Chapter 37: Explanations of a New Threat

Your body flew backwards however it began to morph into the guy who was downstairs; the one who had patted you on the head and who was blocking the door when Kaito was doing his word game with you all. The guy lay there with a beginning to bruise face as he laid there in your school girl outfit. It was too small for his body and had ripped slightly in the front and the skirt was ruined.

“Well done. How did you know?” the blond asked, shock on his face.

“Her personality was off just a bit. She seemed caught between two different people.” Yusuke said.

It was the only way to describe it. You had always been more calculating when you talked as if there was a secret that you didn’t want to share; however, this ‘you’ was acting too much like you and trying a bit too hard; or it seemed to Yusuke. But then again, big brothers are supposed to notice these kinds of things about their little sisters.

“Heh…I see.” The blond snickered.

“I also took in the fact that unlike me, Kurama and Hiei aren’t the sort to let themselves get caught by mere humans, no matter how talented. So it was between Kuwabara, Botan, and (YAFN).”

“Shut up!” growled Hiei looking at Kurama who had a look saying ‘if only Yusuke knew…’ look.

“Kuwabara had acted exactly how I thought he would at hearing that Hiei had a sister. Anything different then that would have been a fake. Botan was protected by her Spirit World Kit. It has devices in there that would keep her safe from any kind of attack you would have thrown at her. Besides, you haven’t seen her use a bat; she has a nice homerun swing.”

Botan just looked at Yusuke with a blush, at the complement.

“Not that (YAFN) can’t hold her own in a fight…but that’s what got me pissed. You’re the sort of scum to nab (YAFN) and if you mistreat her in any way…well then this isn’t a contest but the start o all-out war! So that’s how I figured it out.”

“Crude reasoning…but it worked. I’m impressed.” The blond said, clapping.

“Cut the crap. Where is (YAFN). If you don’t give her back right now, I’ll pound you into the pavement so hard, babies will cry at the sight of you.” Growled Yusuke.

Kuwabara and Botan also gave the blond a death glare. Kuwabara however, was also kicking himself. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t realized it wasn’t you. He had lived with you for almost a year and he still couldn’t see past a fake? How good of a friend was he?

“Oh, we’ll certainly release her but first let me present the mastermind behind this edifying exercise…” the blond said, a door behind him beginning to creak open.

“Who could it…” Yusuke started before his eyes widened in shock.

“Oh my goodness!” Botan gasped.

“You gotta be flippin’ kidding me?!” Kuwabara said, his jaw dropping.

“It was you?! You put us through all this?!” Yusuke shouted.

“You’d better have a good reason ‘cause I sure can’t think of one.” Growled Yusuke as he glared at none other than Genkai. “Well, Genkai?!”

“Whatta you have to say?!” Yusuke shouted.

All of a sudden the blond dropped his walkie-talkie and fell on his knees, bowing.

“I’m sorry! I’m really, really sorry!!”

“Huh?” Yusuke said a bit stunned.

He hadn’t seen that reaction coming.

“We were asked to do this! It was nothing personal!” the blond said, sounding like he truly was sorry about the entire thing.

“Of course it wasn’t. This was my idea, from start to finish.” Genkai said in her cool, calm voice.

“Your idea? Your idea?!” Yusuke said, freaking out, “To do what? Drive me nuts?!”

“Nasty little trick, master Genkai. I began to suspect something was up.” Kurama said, letting out a sigh of relief.

“Kurama!” Yusuke said shocked that he knew the whole time and didn’t tell him when he first saw him.

“You tellin’ me you knew?” Kuwabara asked, still in shock that it was Genkai behind the entire thing.

“So then, you know what’s going on? Tell me, please!” Yusuke said, wanting some sense to this weird situation.

“It was Genkai’s rather twisted way of saying hello. Right, master?” Kurama said with a smile.

“More or less,” Genkai said, “But it wasn’t all in fun. These boys…” she said, as Yanagisawa began to waken from Yusuke’s punch.

“…Have abilities I wanted you to experience.” She said, now having Yanagisawa standing next to the blond who was still on the ground groveling for their forgiveness.

“When did you know?” Botan asked.

“Well, after we got into it I realized that, clever as they were they really weren’t playing for keeps.”

“Coulda fooled me…” Kuwabara said with a snort.

Yusuke thought about the time he had spent with the blond and realized that he had so many opportunities to kill him and hadn’t.

“I think you’re right.” Yusuke said.

“So why were they doing it?” Botan asked.

“The penny dropped it was training! And there was only one person devious enough to put us through our paces like that!” Yusuke growled.

“That still doesn’t tell us why. What was dancing around with these jokers supposed to prove?” Hiei asked, frustrated that this entire thing was just a waste of his time.

“There aren’t many humans tough enough to beat you five in direct confrontation. But toughness isn’t everything. There’s also creativity, which can often be more dangerous than sheer strength. In a fistfight, Hiei, you’d beat Kaito to a pulp. But he engaged you in a contest of mental focus and nailed you flat.” Genkai said.

Hiei shut his mouth and decided to keep quiet.

“As for you, Yusuke…” Genkai said looking at her pupil with a displeased look.

“Hah! If I’d known what he could do I’d’ve taken him!” Yusuke said proudly.

“Idiot! You think a real enemy’s gonna fill you in on everything you need to know?! You ignorance was your failing, not his!” Genkai yelled, making Yusuke shrivel up and grow small compared to her; if only for the moment.

“Still, you said this wasn’t all for laughs.” Yusuke said, crossing his arms over his chest. “Which leads me to believe you have a real enemy in mind!”

“We…” the blond began, “We went to Genkai to see what she could tell us about our abilities. She told us about you, Mr. Urameshi…about your sixth sense and your now legendary combat skills. As for us, she said we got our powers through a portal to the demon plane!”

“A portal…to the demon plane?” Botan said, blinking as she did.

“Yes, Sakyo’s little scheme.” Genkai said.

That man’s name had caught everyone’s attention.

“Apparently someone in the human world has picked up his ball and is now running with it!” Genkai said.

“What?!” Yusuke and Kuwabara said at the same time.

“Yup, it’s true. Genkai told me the whole thing.” You said as you entered the room.

“(YAFN)!” the group said, a bit surprised.

You were wearing a kimono. It was a beautiful purple mixed with some blues. It was nice and form fitting as it kept your almost naked form covered. It wasn’t long after you had entered the stairway that Yanagisawa had come up to you. At first you were about to knock his block off, but once he said Master Genkai’s name, you believed him and followed him out, in a hurry too. You changed and handed him your clothes and then Genkai had filled you in on everything. You had listened to most of what happened through the walkie-talkie that was with Genkai. You still couldn’t believe Yusuke had figured out it was you who was the fake.

“It seems that there is someone trying to open up a gateway into the demon plane. I don’t know why anyone would try to do something like that, unless it was for some kind of ‘try to take over the three worlds’ scheme.” You said.

“What I don’t know is why you haven’t tried wearing a kimono. You look hot lil sis.” Yusuke said with a whistle.

You blushed but growled slightly.

“I prefer to look cute when I want to so shut it.” You said before sticking out your tongue at him.

You look at Yanagisawa and groan.

“That was my good skirt too and I loved that blouse…”

“Sorry Miss (YLN)!” he said bowing his head a few times.

You sighed.

“It’s fine…I have another pair back at Kuwabara’s house…you can keep that by the way.”

“No thanks.” He said with a sweat drop.

You couldn’t help but smile at his reaction. Yes now when the outfit was ruined he didn’t want to keep it.

“But Sakyo’s dead! Who’d be trying to…” Botan started.

“It hasn’t been all that long since the tournament and one of Sakyo’s close aides, or some other survivor, has decided to finish that portal.” Genkai said.

“I don’t know, Genkai…I mean, how could anyone manage to distort such a large field of space?” Kurama asked, doubt in his face and voice.

It was impossible according to everything they knew about how the barrier and the connection between Earth and the Demon Plane was concerned.

“If it could be done, I’d be outta here.” Hiei said with disbelief in his voice.

“If my saying so isn’t enough let’s go see it!” Genkai said. “It’s in Swarm Town.”

“Swarm Town?! That’s practically next door!” Yusuke said.

All of a sudden, the suitcase in Botan’s hands began to beep.

“A signal from Lord Koenma!” Botan said, before putting down the case and opening it up.

“Ah, Botan! Good. Is Yusuke there?” said baby Koenma from the screen that was in the case. “We have an emergency!!”

“There’s quiet a group here, actually.” Genkai said, stepping behind Botan so Koenma could see her.

“Genkai!! Well now…there’s a dark gate widening at incredible speed! It went undetected due to its narrow range.” Koenma started.

“Humans are already being affected. We have a few with us, as a matter of fact. And I’ve seen about 30 others just this past month. They were all from Swarm.” Genkai said.

“Just Swarm, eh? That’s better than I’d feared, but…not by much. It’s already at the second stage…” Koenma said, rubbing his head with both of his hands.

“Second stage?! What’s all this about?!” Yusuke said, realizing something big was going down.

“There are four stages to opening such a portal successfully. In the first, miasma enters and congeals in the human world, while lesser life forms in the demon plane multiply. In the second, some humans gain special abilities due to their proximity to the demon plane. In the third, demons below class D spawn in the human world….and when the hole expands past a radius of km…it reaches the final stage.” Koenma said.

“Which is what?!” Botan asked leaning in closer to the screen.

“The Human world overrun by every demon imaginable?!” Yusuke asked, leaning in next to Botan.

“Just about class C and class B demons…Toguro, for instance, was class B…would have complete freedom to enter the human world.” Koenma said.

“Toguro?! Class B?! I thought he was the worst there was!!” Yusuke shouted.

“Hardly. Deep in the demon plane lurk creatures we classify A and S!! The underworld has no capacity to handle Class S demons!” Koenma said.

Yusuke’s eyes widen and he stares shocked at Koenma on the screen.

“The demon plane is a vast realm. The underworld controls it only to a very tiny extent.” Koenma said.

“Huh…new to me…” Botan murmurs.

“We basically hold sway over a mere one half of the top most level of this abysmal region.” Koenma explains, a screen behind him shows a cylinder shape that is cut into six sections, although it appears to keep going but can’t not fit on the screen.

In the top left hand corner, the first section is cut in half and an arrow pointing to it; as it is shaded in black; says This bit.

“Think of the demon plane as a huge mine shaft, plunging to unimaginable depths. The lower you go, the more dangerous it becomes. Only slowly, and great care, can we hope to control more.” Koenma said, his eyes narrowing as sweat begins to pour down his face.

The fear and worry was clear in his features.

“It’s sealed off from the human world by a powerful barrier that bars access to the human world by Class A and S demons. Due to this design priority, the barrier is not wholly proof against incursions by demons with less than Class B power levels….but that’s something we just have to accept what we must never allow is a single Class A or S demon to slip through! The result would be inconceivably catastrophic!” Koenma said.

“So one Class A demon is deadlier than a whole horde of these Class B scum balls?” Yusuke asked, sweat coming down his face.

Kurama and Hiei listen in on the conversation with serious faces and not liking too much was they are hearing. You couldn’t help but look at the screen in shock, as it was too much information. You had watched this episode but watching it and actually being there to witness it was like two separate and completely different things.

“What’s all this stuff about Classes?! C’mon, fill me in! I can’t see or hear whatever’s there!” Kuwabara complains.

You look at him. It then hit you. Kuwabara’s spirit energy had gone down greatly after the tournament ended. Although, the spirits weren’t bothering Kuwabara as they had been more so in the past. That was the only good thing about his lack of spiritual energy. However, you could sense the calm before the storm. There was something more to Kuwabara’s spiritual energy. You could feel it and you were sure the rest of the gang could sense it too. You didn’t know what, but soon Kuwabara’s spiritual energy would be coming back and it just might be stronger than ever.

“I’ll explain right after everything is told to us, okay?” you whispered to Kuwabara who looked at you for a moment.

He could tell, even without his spiritual energy working; that whatever was going on was something serious and very dangerous and something worse then what they had all gone through in the dark tournament. This made him anxious and was one of the reasons why he was freaking out about not being able to hear what everyone else was; their faces telling him how horrible it was.

“We must take action now before the final stage is completed! The underworld will devise counter-measures!! You must find and stop whoever’s widening the portal!” Koenma said.

“Finding them’s no problem they’ll come for us to sweep us out of the way.” Genkai said while pointing to herself.

“Who do we have to find?! (YAFN)-chan, could you just tell me right now what the heck is going on?!” Kuwabara said looking at you.

You sighed, knowing it wasn’t going to be pretty…

“You’re saying demons like Toguro could swarm out of this hole between worlds?! And that his type are Class B, while there’s Class A and S?! Demons even the underworld can’t handle?! Well, that’s just frickin’ swell!” Kuwabara shouted.

“Yeah, pretty much in a nut shell…” you said with a sweat drop.

‘He took it better than I thought…’ you thought.

“Yeah! Best the Underworld can manage is a force field that holds them back. But now someone on this side’s trying to breach it.” Yusuke said, adding to the information.

“First things first—restoring Kaito’s soul.” Genkai said.

“Oh, right…I almost forgot.” Yusuke said with a sweat drop.

“I actually kinda forgot about him myself…that’s kinda mean..” you said with a sweat drop.

You all head back downstairs, the suitcase in Botan’s hand, closed up. You enter the room where Kaito’s stone body was with his soul hovering about his body.

Genkai did a few arm tricks before pushing his soul back into his body.

“Unh…” came from Kaito’s lips as he sat up.

“Oh…guess things went okay, huh?” he said finding the group and his group above him.

“We got the gist of it. A rather dramatic introduction I’d say.” Kurama said with a warm smile.

“Well, I really wanted to get the best of you for once. Hah! As if!” Kaito said, apparently he knew he wouldn’t win.

“He can’t restore his soul by himself? So if you hadn’t been here…” Yusuke said scratching his chin.

“Yes, he would’ve died. Kaito’s had that difficulty before. That’s why these three sought me out last week.” Genkai said, explaining how she found them.

“A soul is a very defenseless and fragile thing. With no body or ghost to protect it, it’ll slip right into the afterlife.” Genkai said.

“Knowing you, you had to test it.” Kurama said with a sigh.

“Yeah…” Kaito said with a cheeky smile, “I said the taboo myself. Dumb, but I couldn’t resist.”

“Time for proper introductions. I’m Asato Kido, 15 years old. My ability is ‘Shadow.’” Said the blond.

“Mitsunari Yanagisawa, 16 years old. My ability is ‘Copy’”. Said the afro like guy.

“Yu Kaito, 17 years old. My ability is ‘Taboo.’” Said the one with the glasses.

“They’re all from Swarm City. They discovered their abilities about a month ago.” Genkai said.

“We figure it started when the three of us got deathly sick at the same time.” Kaito said.

“Soon after the tournament.” Kurama said grimly.

“If that’s stage 2, then the hole began to open right at that time.” Yusuke said.

“Koenma, how long until it reaches stage 4?” Yusuke asked, Botan opening up the suitcase, which still had a connection with Koenma.

“Stage 4, 2km wide? Oh boy, let me think…the hole at present is 1.3 km wide, so…at an estimate, at most….three weeks.” Koenma said.

“Three weeks…!” Yusuke said, not anticipating it to be that soon.

“What do we do?! How do we stop it?!” Yusuke demands.

“You’ll have to defeat whoever’s opening the hole. He’ll be in its center distorting space. Be aware that once the hole if fully dilated there is no force in the universe that will close it!” Koenma said.

“Okay! We know where the target is so let’s go knock him out!” Yuske said.

“Hold it, Yusuke!” Genkai shouts.

“You guys know the area. Take us there.” Yusuke said, asking the three new guys added to the team.

Genkai whacks Yusuke in the back of the head. Yusuke turns around and gets into her face.

“What is it this time?!”

“Can’t you retain anything in that sorry excuse for a brain?!” she yells back.

“You are incorrigibly heedless, boy! Why do you think I staged all this? For a laugh?”

“The hole’s widening, Genkai! We gotta move!” Yusuke shouted.

“Will you please, think?! We have three weeks, time enough to scope out the enemy and formulate a plan of action.” Genkai said.

“Koenma, I’d like to know…” Hiei said, causing everyone to turn and look at him.

He had been quiet this entire time, and usually he wouldn’t talk to Koenma or want anything to do with Spirit World.

“What class I am now? How does the underworld rank me?” Hiei asked.

Everyone was quiet.

“Hiei!” Kurama scolds.

“It’s a simple question.” Hiei said looking at Koenma.

“You are mid-rank Class B, Hiei. The Younger Toguro was upper Class B.” Koenma said after hesitating for a moment.

“Hmph! Most unsatisfactory.” Hiei said, apparently not expecting that answer.

“I think it’s awesome…if you ask me.” You said.

You hadn’t said a word, nor did Kuwabara. The two of you had stayed out of the entire conversation, Kuwabara more so because he couldn’t hear what was being said on the screen. And you for the fact you needed to know as much information about this case, since you had missed a lot of episodes and needed to be one-step ahead.

“You only ranked upper Class D when you fought Yusuke, and that was just six months ago. You’ve made astounding progress since then.” Koenma said, trying to give Hiei an ego boost, which you felt he really didn’t need one.

“Hmm…you think so?” Hiei said before turning around and beginning to walk away.

“Hiei…” Yusuke said.

“The human world is no concern of mine…” Hiei said as if answering a question that Yusuke asked.

“While access to the demon plane is. If Class B demons can pass through this hole when it reaches 2km….Hmph! You do as you like. I won’t get in your way but…” Hiei said, starting to walk away again.

“Hiei!”

Hiei stopped. You all looked at Kuwabara who stood there looking like Hiei was betraying him, as a friend and teammate; which it appeared to be like that.

“You’re really walking out?” Kuwabara asked, looking at Hiei with a hard look.

He couldn’t believe it. He just didn’t want to believe it.

“Yes.” Hiei said turning to look at Kuwabara. “But for what it’s worth…good luck.” Hiei said before leaving.

“Snort! Can’t say I’m surprised! He always was a snotty twerp!” Kuwabara growled.

“I’ll miss him too.” You said, patting Kuwabara on the back.

“I didn’t say I’d miss him! In fact, I’m happy he’s gone! He wouldn’t have been any help to us anyway.” Kuwabara snorted.

You smiled. You knew that deep down, Kuwabara cared for Hiei as a friend and that it was just a shock to the system and a slap to his face what Hiei did just now.

“Don’t worry. He’ll be back.” Yusuke said with a smile. “When could he ever resist a good fight?”

“He’s disoriented, Yusuke. Proximity to the demon plane isn’t just affecting humans.” Kurama said, seeming to sense something else affecting Hiei; as well as something trying to affect himself.

“We’re better off if he does stay out of it. Our enemies are not likely to be interested in one-on-one engagements. That’s why we mustin’t be hasty. For now, go home and get some rest. We’ll meet the day after tomorrow and start our recon operation.” Genkai said.
