Scene 36 ------------------------------------------- Spirit World

* Yusuke is sulking in the big armchair in front of Koenma's desk. The Toddler tries to keep himself busy with his paperwork. Finally, he can take the heavy silence no longer and looks at Yusuke. When he does, it strikes him at how much more mature the former Spirit Detective has become. Koenma knows what is bothering the Toushin.


Koenma- Yusuke, Kurama said that he explained this to you..


* Yusuke keeps his cheek on his fist, but raises his eyes up to look at Koenma.


Yusuke- This?

Koenma- The problem with your continued.. obsession over Hiei.


* For a brief moment Yusuke's eyes flare, but then he closes them.


Yusuke- Obsession?

Koenma- Stop that.


* Yusuke sighs deeply and straightens up.


Yusuke- Fine.. Yes, he told me some crap about how he and Hiei would have to have some sort of stupid fight..

Koenma- Then I think you understand now part of the reason why he took off.


* Koenma looks down at the three red-flagged papers he's just come across.


Koenma- Yusuke,..


* Koenma offers him the three papers. Yusuke hesitantly takes them. When he sees that they are birth certificates he scans down to read the parents' names half expectantly.


Koenma- Congratulations, again.. You should be down there celebrating with your mate..


* Yusuke lays the three papers back on the desk.


Yusuke- Three boys..


* Koenma nods. Yusuke rubs the back of his neck as he lowers his eyes.


Koenma- (Quietly) I think Hiei knows about Kurama's condition somehow.. Or at least he knows that he's in heat, too.


* Yusuke stands with a growl.


Yusuke- Some demon laws are so stupid!


* The Toushin moves to look out the bay window. Koenma stamps the three papers, then lays his stamper aside and switches into his Teen form. He goes over to stand beside Yusuke.


Koenma- Kurama and Hiei are both S-Class in strength.. While each has unique abilities that set them apart from each other.. if they would fight in earnest..

Yusuke- I know, d--- it..! (Quietly) They would kill each other..

Koenma- Especially if they fight while in their heats.. Their instincts would be too overwhelming.


* Yusuke remains quiet for several moments, then bows his head and closes his eyes.


Yusuke- So you're saying I should just let Hiei go and be happy that he's down in Demon World somewhere possibly being..?

Koenma- Ryuji went after him.. I doubt if he'd let any such thing happen to his brother.

Yusuke- But.. if I just.. let him go.. He's only got, what? A year or so..?


* Koenma shakes his head.


Koenma- (Quietly) I don't have all the answers, Yusuke.


* They hear the large door open and turn to see that the three boys have come in quietly. The twins glance at Chiisai who lowers his eyes. Ichiro and Jiro then go over to stand closer to Yusuke.


Yusuke- Hey.


* When the Toushin sees how sad his boys look he gathers them up in his arms.


Yusuke- Boys,..

Jiro- (Quietly) We miss Papa.


* Yusuke embraces them closer.


Yusuke- I know.. I do, too.


* Koenma watches Chiisai look up to just watch Yusuke console his older brothers. Koenma swallows when it suddenly hits him that when, hopefully only if, Hiei goes on within the next year that the younger boy in front of him will pine away. He can already feel the strong emotions Chiisai is struggling with. As if sensing that Koenma is onto him, the little boy looks at him.


Chiisai- (Quietly) I'm.. going to be all alone, Uncle Koe..


* Yusuke hears Chiisai and looks toward him as Koenma goes over to pick him up.


Koenma- Chi,..

Chiisai- Uncle Yusuke will have them..


* Yusuke goes over to them.


Yusuke- If Ichiro and Jiro come to live with me so will you, Chi-boy.

Chiisai- I don't belong to anyone.. but Papa..

Koenma- Chi, you told me that your Papa told you he'd be back for you.. Right?


* Chiisai nods.


Koenma- Has your Papa ever lied to you, yet?


* Chiisai slowly shakes his head.


Yusuke- Hey, why don't I take you all down to the cafeteria to get some ice cream? We need to get out of this depression.. Come on, Chi, you can ride on my head.

Ichiro- Yeah, come on, Chi Chi.

Jiro- Besides, you'll always have us.. We told you that.


* Slowly Chiisai climbs up Yusuke's arm to settle on his shoulder. Koenma sighs as Yusuke leaves talking to the three boys. Before Koenma can follow George comes over.


George- I didn't wanna say anything in front of Yusuke.. But I have Ryuji's location pinpointed, sir.


* Koenma goes over to look at the map at George's computer station monitor.


Koenma- Yomi's territory.. It's a wonder that I haven't heard from him..


* George looks up at another blip that appears just on the edge of the map.


Koenma- George, please tell me that's not..

George- It's Lord Yomi.. He's moving toward Ryuji's location, but slowly..

Koenma- I better get down there and keep a war from breaking out.


* Koenma looks at George again.


Koenma- Open a portal and set me down right in front of Ryuji.

George- Yes, sir.


* George does his job and Koenma steps through the swirling portal that opens.
