Chapter 35: Trouble Never Takes a Break

Updated: November 16, 2009
Disclaimer: See Chapter One.
Warning: See Chapter One.

A/N: I know that I posted this chapter as chapter 34, I actually posted most of the part where Genkai kidnaps Yusuke and what-not; however, I wanted to have 16 chapters per 'season'. However, I wasn't going to have 16 chapters by how I was posting the chapters. Also, to give myself more time to write this 'season', I figured I would split this chapter up into parts. So those who read that long chapter 34 before I deleted it and separated it...well, they know what happens in this and the next two chapters...I think its the next two chapters; I'm not too sure hahaha ^^; However, I'm at chapter 42 and there will be 47 chapters in this 'season'. It is one chapter less then what I wanted however, I can live with that haha.

After this season, there will only be one left. Then I will make a sequel that my best friend has been dying for me to make with her ^^; she keeps asking me; 'did you finish it yet?'

"...No..."

"Hurry it up!!!" she tells me

Hahaha, sooooo I hope you guys enjoy this chapter and hopefully I will be able to finish this story soon so I can make its sequel. So I hope you guys enjoy this!!

Chapter 35: Trouble Never Takes A Break

A month and a few days later…

“That Koenma! What a jerk!” shouted Yusuke.

He was sitting at his desk, one foot on top of the desk while he sat back in his chair.

“He told me Genkai had been buried, but in fact he’d put her in cold storage so she could be brought back to life.”

“Bet he’d figured what our wish would be.” Kuwabara said, folding his arms and resting them on top of Yusuke’s desk; facing Yusuke.

“If we won. Guess he was right.” Yusuke said with a nod.

You were sitting on the side of Yusuke’s desk; between Kuwabara and Yusuke. You preferred looking up at the ceiling.

“Well, not exactly.” Said Botan who appeared behind Yusuke, who jumped slightly.

“Hey!” she said, giving Yusuke a salute.

“Botan! Undercover as a student again, eh?” Yusuke asked, noticing her wearing the school uniform.

“Yup! And you’re advanced a grade? Amazing!” Botan said with a smile.

“Aw…zip it.” Snorted Yusuke.

“Our last year of junior high…hard to believe.” Sighed Kuwabara.

“Say, didn’t you wear your summer uniform once?” Kuwabara asked while pointing at Yusuke; while giving him a suspicious look.

“Urk!” came from Yusuke’s lips as he realized that he had done just that; however he composed himself fast and casually looked away.

“It was winter, but 86 degrees out side that day.”

“Was it? Oh gah…I did wear my regular uniform.” Kuwabara said, covering his face in shame.

You sighed.

As Yusuke and Botan continued to talk; you turned to Kuwabara.

“This sucks. I hate the fact I have to REPEAT this grade. I thought I would go to another grade this school year; but not only did I NOT pass several classes last year; BUT I will have to pay for high school!” you moaned.

You wished even more now that you had told them your real age in the first place. However, the good thing was it seemed like you didn’t age.

“(YAFN)-chan don’t worry. I’ll help you and maybe we can get a scholarship or something.” Kuwabara said, with a smile; trying to cheer you up.

Personally, he was happy you were left back. That way the two of you could be in the same classes and even get to graduate together.

You sighed and looked back up at the ceiling.

“I guess…” you mumbled.

It was at this time both you and Kuwabara both caught the end of what Botan and Yusuke were discussing.

Botan sighed and looked up at the ceiling while her head rested in her hands.

“It doesn’t seem to make sense, but Genkai and Toguro had something between them.” Botan said.

This last statement caused all four of you to ponder that last statement in silence. However, the silence didn’t last long as a voice interrupted it.

“Urameshi!! Urameshi-chan!! Kuwabara!! PLEASE NOTE THAT CLASS IS IN SESSION!!” cried a peeved Mr. T; as you and Yusuke call him anyway.

Both you and Kuwabara bolted up out of your chairs and looked around a bit embarrassed.

Once you and the rest of the group had come back from the Dark Tournament, Yusuke noticed that a few of the guys were eyeing you up. You apparently became more attractive to them, and as a way to keep those 'pervy' thinking human males away; he told everyone you were his adopted little sister and that if anyone messed with you, they'd be messing with him. The fact Keiko would call you Ura-chan or Urameshi-chan really helped what Yusuke said. So because of this you found all the girls had started to call you that too as well as some of the teachers.

Yusuke looked wide-eyed up at the classroom.

“Hey, long time no see.” Yusuke said.

At this time Botan slowly tried to sneak out of the room.

“Who are you?! A new student?”

“I’m sorry. Sir! Just passing through!” Botan said, waving her hand at the teacher as she covered her mouth as if she was a student who just lost her way.

“Whatever! You’re not in THIS class!” Mr. T said.

Yusuke blinked, as if he realized something and turned to Botan who was already in the door.

“Wait, Botan! What brought you here?”

“I’ll tell you after school! See ya then bye!” Botan said, waving before exiting.

Yusuke had an annoyed look on his face, as you and Kuwabara found your ways back to your desks and waited until the class was over.

Finally, school was over. You walked with Kuwabara and Yusuke however; some girls who needed your help with something stopped you. They had all carried a scared look to them. You found that weird but decided to help them out.

You had been able to make some ‘girl’ friends while attending the school; with the help of Keiko that is. You shrugged your shoulders at them, before turning to the guys.

“I guess I’ll meet up with you later. Don’t leave with out me; got that?” you said, glaring at them both.

Yusuke just smiled at you and patted your back.

“No prob sis.”

“Yeah, we won’t leave you behind.” Kuwabara said with a smile..

You smiled back and nodded, before going off with the group of girls. You followed them until you reached the girl’s bathroom. You raised your eyebrow at this and turned to find the girls still looked somewhat scared.

“None of us are brave enough to go in there…” one girl started.

“There’s this HUGE spider in one of the stalls.” Another said.

“And we thought since you hang out with Yusuke and Kuwabara; that you wouldn’t be scared of a spider…”

“So please help us.” All the girls said at once, clapping their hands together and bowing their heads.

You sweat dropped at them.

“Ummm…ok.” You said before turning towards the bathroom door.

You swore you heard a gasp from the girls when you pushed the door open. You couldn’t help but snort with a smile on your lips.

‘Girls are the same no matter where you are.’ You thought; remembering back in high school how the girls would scream at a mosquito in the girl’s locker room.

You remembered you looked over as you were pulling up your school required gym pants and found half of the girls running away from a pretty big flying mosquito. You had sighed and grabbed your shoe before walking over and squashing it. There was still a stain from where you squashed it.

You shook your head at the memory before fully entering the room. You looked around. It was a normal girl bathroom with four stalls and three sinks with three big mirrors above each sink. You walked over and grabbed a paper towel and walked to the first stall. You opened it and looked around.

No spider.

You open the next stall and look around. There on top of the ceiling is the little bugger; or rather overly sized bugger. You hadn’t seen a spider that big before. It seemed it could fit in the palm of your hand. It was all black, and if you remembered correctly; it wasn’t a poisonous spider. You looked at the toilet seat and cringed.

“All girl bathrooms are the same…” you mumbled as you looked at the disgusting toilet seat.

It didn’t seem to have been washed in a week or more. You took some toilet paper and propped the top of the seat down before stepping on top of it so you could reach the ‘monster’. You were happy the ceiling was low enough so you could at least rest your palm flat on the ceiling; if you wanted to that is.

You slowly reached for the spider and as you were just about to wrap it up in the paper towel; it scooted over into the other stall. At that moment you heard a girl scream. The scream caught you off guard as you slipped and fell off the toilet seat and would have landed hard on your head; if you hadn’t grabbed a hold of the top of the stall by the door.

It was then you saw a girl run past your open stall door and out the bathroom door. You sweat dropped. You sighed and let go of the stall wall; landing on your feet. You made a serious face as you walked over to the next stall. You were determined to get this spider now. You used another toilet paper to put down that seat down before climbing on top of it and looked up at the spider that looked ready to bolt back into the other stall.

“Oh no you don’t!” you shout as your hand reaches again for the spider.

However instead of going into the other stall; the spider fell off the ceiling and right on top of your hand. Your eyes grew as you saw the spider slowly walk up your arm towards your face.

You screamed as you ran out of the stall; flaying your arms around; trying to get the eight-legged creature off. Sure you weren’t scared of spiders, however, when one is ON you, who wouldn’t help but freak out eh?

From outside the bathroom the girls look at the door in horror, worry, and concern. It sounded like you were fighting a battle in there; and to all they knew you were. All of a sudden, it grew silent. All the girls held their breath as they waited to see if you would come out alive or not come out at all.

What seemed like hours; you finally came out; all cool and not a hair out of place. In your hand, you held up the paper towel, which contained the remains of what was once a spider. The hallway was filled with cheers as the girls expressed their gratitude to their hero.

“That was amazing Ura-chan!” called one girl.

“You’re so brave!”

“I can’t believe you did that!”

You sweat dropped and gave a side ways smile while scratching the back of your head with your free hand.

“Stop it, it was nothing. It was only a spider. Now” you said, looking serious. “Time to set this guy free.”

This statement caused all the girls to pale.

“You mean you didn’t kill it?!” one girl shouted.

“Why would I do that? It was probably trying to find a way out anyway.” You said, before turning to walk towards the front doors.

All the girls looked at you as you walked away; awe and amazement at how brave; yet stupid you were.

You smiled when you shook out the paper towel and the spider fell on the ground and proceeded to run ‘away’ from the school entrance. You found a trash can near by and dumped the paper in it and clapped your hands together in a ‘job well done’ manner.

“Now time to find the guys…” you said as you opened the door to re-enter the school.

However, as soon as you opened the door, something blue flew by you. You blinked a few times before you realized it was Puu, who seemed to be upset about something.

“Puu? Puu stop!” you shout after the little creature that flew down the hallway.

You ran after it and continued to shout at him to stop. It finally seemed to hear you and stopped, turned around and flew into your arms.

“What’s wrong?” you asked him, feeling a sense of urgency radiating off him.

“What’s that?”

You blinked before turning around and finding a group of people behind you. You sweat dropped and held Puu close to you; as the poor creature struggled in your arms.

“Oh…this? Oh this is my stuff animal.” You said, thinking on your feet.

‘Good one…’ you thought.

However, Puu ruined the moment by breaking free from your arms and began to fly towards wherever he was aiming to go in the first place. Your eyes widened before you ran after him; a crowd of people running after you.

“Wait!” some people yelled.

“That’s not a stuff animal!” yelled another.

You tried to run faster, however; it seemed Puu was on a mission and wouldn’t wait. You looked straight ahead and were more than happy to find a door to a room open up and out came Kuwabara and Botan. It seemed they heard the commotion and decided to check it out. You dashed forward and tackled Puu in the air; pulling him to your chest before ducking behind Kuwabara. Kuwabara stood flabbergasted at the huge crowd.

“Do something…” you whispered to Kuwabara as you hid behind him.

“What is that thing?” asked one of the students.

“Do you know Kuwabara? Urameshi-chan says it’s a stuffed animal; but they can’t fly!” said another.

“IT’S HER NEW R.C. HOVER BEAST, I GOT IT FOR HER BIRTHDAY, COOL HUH? NOW SCRAM!!” Kuwabara screamed looking all scary as he did.

No one had to be told twice as they all ran away; not interested anymore.

You sighed, still holding Puu to your chest. He struggled in your arms and you looked down at him, worried.

“What’s wrong, little guy?” you asked, however he was able to break away and fly into the room Kuwabara and Botan just came out from.

“What’s going on, Puu?” Kuwabara asked, following him back into the room; you and Botan on his heels.

“You’ll disrupt the entire school at this rate.” Botan said.

Puu continued to flutter around until he flew to the chalkboard and picked up a piece of chalk in his mouth and began to write on the chalkboard. The three of you watched him for a moment before you gasped.

‘Yusuke kidnapped’ was written on the chalkboard. Puu dropped the chalk and flew around a bit ‘Puuing’ as he did. He then flew to you and settled in your arms.

“How could that happen?” you asked a bit confused.

Then it hit you. You remembered catching the second half of this part. You had watched this part of the series around Kurama beating that Kiddo guy, up to where Yusuke defeated the Doctor. You missed a lot of this season on account of the hours you had worked when it was on Cartoon Network. By the time you were able to watch it, they had changed the time to five-thirty in the morning and they were repeating it from the beginning.

‘So I didn’t miss much from the end of the tourney to now…that’s good I think…’ you thought.

“I don’t understand it either,” Kuwabara said, “but we gotta see if it’s true.”

The three of you headed to the spot Kuwabara said he had last seen him. Puu showed you guys from there where Yusuke was taken from. In the middle of the field that was located on the side of the school was Yusuke’s backpack along with a note. It read the following:

We’ll be waiting at 11 p.m. tonight at the fourth dimensional mansion in Monster Town. Bring anyone you like, but the attendance of Kuwabara, Hiei, Kurama, and (YFN) is mandatory. Otherwise, Yusuke Urameshi’s safety may be compromised.

“Yusuke…kidnapped.” Kuwabara said astonished. “No way he’d let THAT happen.”

“Apparently he did.” You said taking the note from Kuwabara and looking at it.

“They know of Kurama and Hiei…so maybe they could nab Yusuke.” Botan suggested; her face serious.

“And send Puu to us. Okay, it’s serious. But what’re they after?” Kuwabara asked.

“Who knows…” you say, trying to remember how it went.

“We gotta round up Kurama and Hiei! You know where they are?” Botan asked before turning to Puu. “You go on home, Puu!”

“Kurama’s neighborhood is two train stops from here!” Kuwabara said, remembering the area Kurama had told him where he lived with his human family.

“Then let’s go! We don’t have that much time.” You said, digging into your pockets for train money.

‘There goes my spending money…’ you thought with a sigh.

It took the three of you three hours to get to Kurama’s neighborhood, and another fifteen minutes to get to his school. Kuwabara didn’t even waist a minute before he stomped through the school shouting Kurama’s name; and not his human name either.

“I think you shouldn’t shout THAT name out here.” You said to Kuwabara with a sweat drop.

“Why? That’s what I know him by…Kurama yo, Kurama we got big trouble! Kurama!” Kuwabara said while he ran down the hallway; you and Botan on his heels.

You all saw the red head down the hall. He seemed to be talking to three fellow classmates. Kurama turned around, looking a bit annoyed.

“Quiet!” Kurama said, turning to Kuwabara, “I’m right here.”

“We’ve been lookin’ fer you everywhere!” Kuwabara said going a bit closer towards Kurama.

“Kurama?” one of his fellow male students asked him, “the sumo wrestler?”

“Heh…just a nickname.” Kurama said with a nervous laugh and a small sweatdrop.

You couldn’t help but smirk at his reaction. Kurama was so much more ‘normal’ then he appeared in the anime.

Kurama turned to Kuwabara and glared at him.

“I’m Minamino here, got it?” He whispered.

“Sure.” Kuwabara said.

He turned back to the group of boys and excused himself. You all began to walk away; leaving the poor boys behind and confused.

“Look at this.” Kuwabara said bending in close and showing Kurama the note you all found.

You all continued to walk until you exited the school building; Kurama seeming to be a multi-tasker as he was able to read the note and walk without tripping.

“We gotta find Hiei, fast! You know where he is?” Kuwabara asked.

“Not a clue, I’m afraid,” Kurama answered after finishing the letter. “Though he can’t be that far away. We’re both still on probation.”

“If only he was here, he could use his evil eye to…” Botan started, her face looking frustrated and a little scary.

“Whoa, Botan! Focus!” Kurama said with a small sweat drop.

You all stopped a little way from the schoolyard and were near a park entrance.

“No leads, no clues, No nuthin’! What we need is doraemon!” Kuwabara said with conviction.

“What or who is Doreamon?” you asked with a raised eyebrow.

Before Kuwabara could explain, Botan interrupted.

“I know!! The under world tools!”

“Doreamon is the underworld tools?” you asked giving her a strange look.

“No silly, I mean we can use the underworld tools!”

“Ya mean that stuff Urameshi had when he fought Goki? Aren’t they all busted up…?” Kuwabara asked, Yusuke having told Kuwabara his adventures before Kuwabara joined the team.

“They’ve been fixed up good as new in the Underworld. Better even!” Botan explained. “For instance, no demon can hide from the new and improved Demonic Aura-Meter!!”

“But…how will we be able to tell which is his?” Kurama asked.

“Kurama, the voice of reason…” you sigh.

“Oh…” Botan said.

Her eyes brighten up and two mini fangs appeared in her mouth as she thought of another idea.

“That’s no problem! We just put something of his inside it…say a hair or a fingernail and it’ll direct us to him, no matter how far away he might be!”

“And how do you propose we get this…item?” Kurama asked.

“Once more the voice of reason…” you sighed again.

“Oh yeah..” Botan sweat dropped.

There was a slight pause.

“We’ll scour the area with the see-through glass…” Botan began.

“We have five hours, not five centuries!!!” Kuwabara shouted.

“Anything else we can use?” Kurama asked a bit more calmly.

“Umm…well…” Botan started becoming a bit overwhelmed it seemed.

“Why not use something that will bring him to us?” you asked, shrugging your shoulders.

“Ah!” Botan shouted; seeming to have a flashbulb over her head; if you looked hard enough.

“The itako whistle!! Detective tools part four. A whistle that emits a sound, normal humans can’t hear. The stronger your aura, the farther its sounds will travel!” Botan explained.

“I suggest we go somewhere else.” Kurama said, glancing around a few people who were walking by on the street.

“Sounds good to me.” You and Kuwabara said.

By the time you all looked for a quiet secluded place in the park; an hour had pasted. You had Botan’s entire Detective Tool set out on the ground still in the case with the lid open. You were all sitting around it and looking at the tools. It was a pretty impressive set, although it looked more like a kiddy set of detective tools.

“I’ve brought the whole set, just in case.” Botan said.

“I’d love to give them all a try but Hiei’s our first priority.” Kurama said.

Botan stood up and out stretched her right hand.

“The whistle, then! Stand back and cover your ears. This thing’s loud!” Botan said. “I should be able to blow it out to a 60-mile radius!”

She took in a deep breath, giving you, Kurama, and Kuwabara the sign to cover your ears. She then blew into the whistle with all her might; sending out the most horrible sounding noise you had ever heard. It sounding like it was going through your hands and into your ears!

“Wow! She wasn’t kidding!” Kurama said, holding his hands hard to his ears.

“I hope Hiei hears this cause my ears feel like they are going to bleed!” you said while closing your eyes at the pain.

Kuwabara took his hands off and blinked in confusion.

“I didn’t hear nuthin’.” He said.

Botan finally ended it and looked around. Suddenly, there was a rustle in a near by tree. You, Kuwabara, and Kurama look in that direction; which was the tree behind Botan. Out from the leaves fell Hiei, head first on to the ground below. You couldn’t help but break out into laughter at how funny it looked.

“That wail! Who’s dying?” Hiei grumbled while rubbing the back of his head.

“Hiei!” shouted Kurama and Botan; both wide eyed and not expecting him to fall out of a tree.

“What’s he a beetle?” Kuwabara asked.

“Maybe he’s a cat that got stuck in the tree?” you suggested.

“That’s not even funny (YAFN)-chan! He’s nothing like a cat…I like cats.” Kuwabara said with a huff.

You shrugged your shoulders.

“Just a suggestion.”

Hiei looked annoyed at you and the group and stood up.

“You guys again…Hmph! Bad enough I can’t return to the demon plane.”

“Look…” Kurama said, walking up to Hiei and handing him the letter.

Hiei read it and smirked.

“Well, serves him right. Getting full of himself after beating Toguro. He can stew in his own ego in the afterlife.” Hiei said.

“Aren’t you curious about who captured him?” Kurama asked.

“Why? It’s got nothing to do with me.” Hiei said with a bored look.

Kurama looked a bit confused and baffled at Hiei’s answer. Botan stuck to a growl and a scowl; while Kuwabara gave Hiei a look that showed he was shocked but not so much. You just gave him a pout, causing him to snort at you and look away.

“You don’t like it? Too bad. I do what I want, when I want.” Hiei snorted.

“Hey! They might kill Yusuke if you don’t come with us!” Botan shouted, as Hiei turned around as if he was going to walk away. “You really don’t care at all about that?!”

Botan sweat dropped and scooted backwards at the scary face Hiei made in her direction. She clung to your side as you stared wide-eyed at the glare.

“No I don’t!” Hiei said in a deep voice before turning back around to face you all. “He takes down the ultimate demon warrior, then gets captured by a buncha humans! That’s beyond stupid! I can’t stand babysitting idiots!”

Kurama covered his mouth as if he was in thought. Hiei turned around about to leave.

“What if this wasn’t just about Yusuke?” Kurama suggested.

Hiei seemed to stop at that comment however, he didn’t turn around.

“Botan, (YAFN)-chan, and Kuwabara-kun told me some humans have been displaying strange powers lately.”

“And some of these captured Yusuke?” Hiei asked, turning slightly around to face Kurama.

“How about this?” Botan said with a mad face. “If you’ll help, the Underworld will wipe your slate clean.”

“You sure about that?” Kuwabara asked, looking a bit worried.

“I’ll see to it!” Botan said with determination mixed with anger.

By this point she had let you go and you were looking at Hiei, not sure how to convince him and then it hit you.

“You will also receive a life-time supply of ‘Anit-Kuwabara’! That’s right, you will never have to deal with Kuwabara as long as you live!” you said, sounding like a sales person.

“Having to deal with Kuwabara is sometimes a strain on you; well not anymore! Yes if you act now, you have permission to tell Kuwabara to fuck off and he will have to listen! Anit-Kuwabara can only be used after missions are over as in the event you need to work together. It is not a free pass to kill, maim, or mutilate him. You are free to criticize him as much as you want without any complaints from him or any back smack from him while you are in the room. Winners must live or have lived in the demon plane at one time and must currently be living under the Underworld’s jurisdiction when this offer is given. Must be 18 years old or older to win.”

Everyone stopped and stared at you. You smiled wide and innocent.

“What? I wanted to give him a deal too…”

“But an ‘anti-Kuwabara’?! And what did ya mean ‘I’m sometimes a strain?!” Kuwabara shouted.

“He doesn’t like you, and I did have conditions in it that where void-prohibited or some shit like that…and…I said you were a strain on HIM, that didn’t mean you strained me.” you said with a pout.

Hiei snorted, but had a small snicker on his face. He enjoyed your antics, sometimes; this was one of those times. However, his stone cold face reappeared.

“Full acquittal and no foolish human to deal with, huh?” Hiei said.

“Only after this mission of course.” You added quickly.

“Hn, fine, I’ll come.”

(A Few Hours Later…)

“This is it.” Botan announced. “ Pretty strange place, huh?”

You all had reached the destination. It looked like a maze and a fun house at the same time. It reminded you of a house you had heard about.

“An obscure artist designed and built it but he died some time ago. It’s been vacant ever since.” Botan said, adding to the bizarreness of the building.

“It looks like he had a few screws loose if you ask me.” You said looking at the strange looking building.

“It might not be safe. Maybe us guys should go in first…” Kuwabara said glancing between you and Botan.

“No way! I’m not staying behind!” Botan said resting her hands on her hips.

“Besides, I’ve been in less ‘safe’ situations then this.” You added. “Even if the guy had a few screws loose, I’m sure it’s stable-ish, it hasn’t fallen down yet.”

Kuwabara looked at you with a thoughtful look.

“Besides,” Botan began, “you haven’t recovered your aura yet so (YAFN)-chan and I are the only ones who can use the tools.”

You turn to look at Botan a bit confused.

“Why are we the only ones able to use them?”

“Because Kurama and Hiei have demonic auras and some of the items demons can’t use, either it won’t work or it will hurt them.”

You mouth an ‘oh’ and nod. It made sense, just incase the items fell into demon hands it wouldn’t be good for the Spirit World.

“So let’s get to saving my brother’s stupid ass.” You shout, pumping your hand into the air.

The group looked at you with a sweat drop. You were the only one who didn’t seem to be taking this entire rescue mission seriously. However, you knew the end of this mission and who was behind it. That would give anyone a peace of mind.

“Sorry.” You said scratching the back of your head.

You all approached the door and found a note attached to the outer part of the door.

ANY WHO ENTER MUST NOT SAY “HOT”. THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING…

“What’s the deal here? We can’t say ‘hot’? That’s dumb!” Kuwabara snorts, not finding the note amusing.

“Just keep it in mind,” Kurama said, “C’mon, let’s go inside…”

You all nod in agreement before entering the fun house like house. Once inside you found yourselves in a room that looked across between a green house and a library. It had bookshelves filled with books all over the place. Next to the bookshelves were plants of all different species and colors. Above was a creepy looking chandelier that had skull looking handle holders where the light bulbs came out of their mouths. There was a muggy fog that coated the floor of the room, though you could see the black and white tiles even through the mist.

You pulled at the collar of your school blouse. You already had a small drop of sweat fall from your forehead. It really was hot in this room.

“Whew! It sure is humid and h-“ Botan began before having her mouth covered by Kurama’s hand.

“Say no more, please.” He said giving Botan a serious look.

She muffles something from behind his hand and nods. He removes his hand and stares around the room.

“Kurama, did you notice…?” Hiei asked, his guard on the defensive.

You nodded, having felt a chill go down your spine even in this heat.

“Yes…as we entered it was like stepping into another world.” Kurama said with a thoughtful yet serious look.

“So that’s what it feels like? It gave me the chills.” You said shivering a bit to prove your point.

You sensed someone’s presence and turned to find a guy with the same color jumpsuit Kurama was wearing. He had black curly hair and glasses. He also had freckles on his face and was pale. He was the stereotypical ‘nerd’. Although, you had never had anything against nerds as you felt you yourself was one. The definition of ‘nerd’ to you was someone who liked anime, video games, star trek and/or star wars, and comics. You liked two or three out of that group making you; in your definition, a nerd.

“Welcome,” the young man said.

Kuwabara’s eyes widened before pointing his finger at the guy.

“That guy! He’s one of Yusuke’s kidnappers!”

“Kaito!!” Kurama said.

He looked surprised and a bit thrown off balance, not expecting someone he knew from school, but someone a bit more cynical looking.

“Huh? You KNOW him?!” Kuwabara said a bit confused.

Kurama seemed to compose himself and go back to his calculating face.

“Not really. He’s just in my grade at school. Whatever he might know of us, he didn’t get it from me.”

Kurama took a few steps forward towards Kaito, who was approaching a chair that was placed in the middle of this room.

“Who DID inform you of us? And why did you kidnap Yusuke?!”

Kaito pushed up his glasses with his pointer finger before standing himself in front of the nice cushy chair.

“Someone came to us and said you guys won some sort of competition…the dark tournament, I believe it was.”

He then sat back into the chair, making it creak as it did.

“I didn’t realize you were smart AND powerful, Minamino. Would you show me how you control plants?”

Kurama stared his fellow classmate down with a glare that would turn even a b-class demon into a quivering wreck.

“Ohh…fierce! Yet always so mild in school,” Kaito said with a snicker before leaning forward, “ Anyway, I recently discovered that I have this weird ability and I think challenging you will be the best way to reveal its full potential.”

Hiei snorted from his spot to your left. You glanced to him and saw his look of annoyance.

“I think you will find,” Hiei started as he took out his sword from his side, “ you’ve made an unwise decision.”

Kaito picked up one of the few books that were on a near by table and began to read it.

“Perhaps. But perhaps not.” He said.

“Shut up!” Hiei shouted.

In a blink of an eye he vanished and reappeared in front of Kaito his black cloak off and left on the floor next to you. Hiei brought his katanna down with a mighty strike that could have sliced the young man clean through. However, it appeared that Hiei had hit something that was hard enough to break Hiei’s katanna in half.

Hiei’s eyes widened as did everyone else, including your own.

“See?” Kaito said glancing up from his book with a satisfied gleam in his eye.

Hiei jumped back and stared down at his broken katanna for a few moments in awe before composing himself. He didn’t look too happy.

“Okay, what’s this about? This sword snapped in two…on nothing.”

“Words are the only weapons that can be used in this room. That’s my rule, and you must obey it.” Kaito said giving Hiei a blank and bored look.

Kurama took a small step forward, worry on his face yet it was still cool and collected.

“Your rule as posted on the door.”

“Right. That’s my ability, to create a weird kind of ‘space’ around me. Violence of any kind has no effect here. As you’ve seen.” Kaito said looking at you all before looking back at Hiei.

“Hiei, was it? I’ve been told you’re a master of the sword. Well, in here you’re just another height-challenged punk.”

“Oh no he did NOT just say that!” You said with wide eyes.

Being short yourself, you knew how much it stung, not to mention it was one of the things that could set off your temper. You heard Kuwabara next to you make a grunt. You glanced over and saw that he looked a bit peeved at what Kaito had said. You blinked and smiled small.

‘Who says Kuwabara doesn’t like Hiei.’ You think before turning back to look at Hiei who looked ready to tear Kaito apart.

Kurama looked at his good old friend with fear and worry.

“Steady, Hiei! He’s baiting you!” Kurama shouted.

“By YOUR rule, then, I can’t say “hot”?” Hiei said.

“Hiei!” Kurama shouted, his eyes growing wider and flabbergasted that Hiei would fall easily into such an obvious trap.

“What happens if I DO say ‘HOT’? I drop dead on the spot?” Hiei asked glaring with a small snicker on his lips.

Kaito narrows his eyes with a small smirk on his lips.

“Well…its like this…” Kaito said.

Hiei’s body froze, his eyes widen in surprise as his entire body was engulfed in a fireball of ‘black’. A small gasp escaped his lips as he slouched over a bit as if he is about to pass out. You, Kuwabara, and Botan watched on in horror as you witness one of your friends body change into stone, Hiei’s eyes changing completely white. Kurama’s eyes widened in fear as he was witnessing his long time best friend get his very soul sucked out of his body and into Kaito’s hand. Kaito snickered a slightly sadistic smile as he looked down at what was Hiei’s soul, which was in his complete control.

“When you say the forbidden word in here…your soul gets sucked from your body. That makes TWO hostages for us.” Kaito said, before looking up at you all. “Urameshi is on the second floor…and I now have Hiei’s soul right here. How about the rest of you? Will you turn back…or fight?”
