Scene 34 ------------------------------------------- Two Hours Later

* Kurama and Koenma are sitting on the couch watching Yusuke pace. Kurama's eyes are watching every sinewy move his Alpha's body makes. The godling is doing his best to ignore both Kurama's scent and the thoughts he can't help but pick up on because he's so close.


Yusuke- Where the h--- are they?!

Koenma- They should be on their way here.. unless they've decided to go torment the library ogres.

Yusuke- What are they learning in these.. classes..?


* When Yusuke glances toward them he notices the way Kurama is watching him. The kitsune acknowledges his attentions by thumping his bushy tail, that was laying on the couch between he and Koenma, a little quicker. Koenma glances down at it, then looks at Kurama.


Koenma- Kurama, I understand that you're in heat, but could you please..


* Kurama half glances at Koenma, then moves his tail over to his other side. The switch sends more of his scent past the Prince's nose and his eyes almost cross. Koenma stands quickly and heads toward the kitchen.


Koenma- I'm going to get me something cold.. to drink..

Yusuke- All Hiei has in there is booze..

Koenma- I know.


* Yusuke sighs and goes over to sit down beside Kurama as Koenma continues on his way.


Kurama- (Quietly) I apologize, Yusuke..

Yusuke- It's not like you can control your.. delicious scent..


* Yusuke shakes his head then they both meet eyes and look toward the main door. Out in the hall the twins approach the door but stop when they glance behind then and notice that Chiisai has stopped just after getting off the elevator.


Jiro- Chi?

Chiisai- (Quietly) Something's wrong..


* The twins go back to look down at him curiously, having learned to trust their little brother's feelings.


Ichiro- What do you mean?

Jiro- Do you sense danger?


* The small boy shakes his head, then lowers his eyes.


Chiisai- No, I.. I can feel.. Lord Koenma's in our apartment..


* Jiro glances toward the door as Ichiro shrugs.


Ichiro- That's not exactly nothing new, Chi Chi.

Chiisai- So is your Father..

Jiro- Papa Yu's here?


* Chiisai nods.


Ichiro- But you told us that Papa had to go back down there..

Jiro- So why is Papa Yu...


* The twins look at each other. When Chiisai raises his hands to cover his eyes Jiro gathers the small boy up.


Jiro- (Quietly) We're here for you, Chi.

Ichiro- Yeah.. We all knew this was coming..


* The twins go on into their apartment. Inside, Koenma comes back out of the kitchen. For several moments there is silence as the boys' expressions tell the adults that they sense what the adults were trying to figure out the best way to tell them. Slowly, Koenma moves to take Chiisai when a sob finally escapes from him to break the silence.


Koenma- Shh, Little One.. I know..

Ichiro- Will be able to go see Momma Shishi?

Jiro- Why did Papa go away.. Does he know?!

Yusuke- He was in the room with Shishi when he passed..


* The twins look up at Yusuke when he comes over.


Yusuke- Your Papa's running.

Kurama- Yusuke!

Yusuke- What? No use lyin' to them.. It's not anything bad, boys.. It's just always been how Hiei's dealt with stuff like this.

Koenma- Of course it's nothing bad.


* Chiisai pulls back to glare at Yusuke.


Chiisai- When Papa told me he had to go I could feel that he was hurting! Don't you dare say anything bad about my Papa!


* Yusuke actually admires the small boy's spunk.


Yusuke- I'd never have anything bad to say about your Papa, Squirt.


* The twins look back up at Koenma.


Ichiro- So?

Jiro- Will we be able to see him?

Chiisai- No! I don't want to see Momma in one of those things!!


* Before Koenma can stop him Chiisai sprouts his wings and blinks away toward the bedroom hall.


Koenma- No, boys. Your Momma Shishi told me that he don't want you seeing him like that, either.. He wants you to remember him the way he was.


* Ichiro tilts his head.


Ichiro- Always sleeping?


* Jiro jabs Ichiro in his ribs with a scowl.


Jiro- Come on, let's go stay with Chi, idiot.


* They start toward the bedroom, then Ichiro pauses to look back at them.


Ichiro- Papa will come back.. Won't he?

Yusuke- Sure, he will.. I doubt if he'd abandon you boys. If you want, you all can come down and stay with me until your Papa gets his head on straight.


* Jiro turns back now, too.


Jiro- We'll discuss it. Come on, Ichy.


* The twins continue on. Koenma looks at Yusuke with a raised eyebrow.


Yusuke- What?


* Kurama stands and moves toward the door.


Kurama- Let's go find a room, Yusuke. Apparentlly, I didn't get through to you, yet.

Yusuke- I heard everything you told me! Those boys are mine as much as they are Hiei's.. well, two of them..

Koenma- Yusuke,..

Yusuke- Look! Who knows how long it'll take shortfuse to get over this! Until he does, if they want to, I'm going to take care of them.. It's what any fit Father would do.. Right?


* When neither Koenma nor Kurama can dispute Yusuke's reasoning Kurama moves to pull Yusuke into an embrace.


Kurama- (Quietly) I still want to.. find a room, Love.

Koenma- Spirit World is not a Motel 6! Go back to Tourin.. If the boys decide to come stay with you I'll bring them down.. All three of them.


* Yusuke nods with a shrug.


Yusuke- Of course, all three of them.. I never said I didn't want Chi to come, too.

Kurama- Let's get going, then.. I miss my kits. I really, really need to see them.


* Koenma shakes his head as Kurama pulls Yusuke out the door. He then takes out the small can of deodorizer he'd stowed away in his pocket to 'freshen the room up a bit'. Koenma then goes to look into the boys' bedroom.


Koenma- Will you three be okay?

Ichiro- Yeah.

Jiro- Chi's just very sad.

Koenma- Of course. Understandable.. I'll stay and hold you if you want me to, Chi Chi.


* When Chiisai sits up on his bed and nods Koenma goes over. He pulls the small boy onto his lap and embraces him. Chiisai hides his face against Koenma's chest and continues sobbing. Koenma's empathic ability feels the real reason for Chiisai's sadness.


Koenma- (Quietly) As long as your brothers and I are alive, you'll never be alone, sweetie.. I promise.. Your Papa will come back as soon as he can.


* Koenma continues rocking Chiisai gently until he eventually cries himself to sleep.
