Scene 33
Congratulations, POH!! You were my first reviewer for 2010. :o) Just wanted to give ya a little recognition. :o) Happy New Year to all my readers!! Now, on with the story. Here’s three more scenes to kick off the new year. :o)

Scene 33 ---------- Later That Night
* Hiei stands up to pace restlessly on the Lookout Ledge. He knows that all of his pack, except those in the River Hut, are in the main cave sleeping. Except one. It’s this one, Sylk, that has him so restless. Ever since their argument that morning the fiesty Panther demoness had not returned from the West Wall cave. When he discovered this, upon returning from the meetings, he’d simply grunted and went to the table to eat. Hiei isn’t much surprised when Sarista comes out of the cave to look up at him.
Sarista- Hiei, just go talk to her.
* Hiei moves back to his spot against the embankment and leans there with his arms crossed stubbornly.
Hiei- I’m the Alpha. I’m not required to pander to any of you.
* Sarista tilts her head.
Sarista- She’s pregnant, Hiei..
Hiei- Not to me!
* Sarista quirks an eyebrow.
Sarista- Is this the root of the problem?
Hiei- No.. If you must know, the root of the.. problem.. is her d--- b----y attitude.
* Now Sarista lowers her eyes chuckling. Hiei storms back to the edge of the ledge to glare down at her.
Hiei- What do you find so d--- funny?!
Sarista- That you.. have a problem with her.. attitude.
* Hiei scowls at her words, then blinks down to the ground in front of her.
Sarista- I seem to recall someone else who had resolved to live in a tree for the rest of his existance.
Hiei- I had my reasons!
Sarista- I know.. Responsibility scares the s--- out of you.
* Sarista crosses her arms as she meets his gaze. Hiei growls his frustration.
Hiei- Your philosophic views are way off on that. Are you not feeling well? If I was scared of responsibility I wouldn’t still be here in this position right now, Woman.
* The jaganshi turns away from her intense gaze, with a huff, to face the west. Sarista contemplates him a moment, then nods, and moves up closer behind him. She feels him relax some when she places her arms around him.
Sarista- I agree. I apologize, Darling.. I was merely trying to..
Hiei- I know.
* Hiei raises a hand to touch her arm that’s wrapped around his chest.
Hiei- But I can’t force her to accept me.. I don’t have as strong a bond with her that I have with these ones in the cave here.. or with you.
* He half looks over his shoulder toward her. She leans to nuzzle the elfin ear presented to her.
Hiei- But I can feel her emotions just the same.. She’s hurting, ‘Ris.. She feels as though she failed her late mate and her pack when she fell to Matsua’s trickery.. Then the humiliation she suffered there by having this baby forced.. into her..
Sarista- Hn. Then what can be done? All of these emotions are only amplified by this pregnancy. That was my point.
* Hiei sighs.
Hiei- There’s nothing I can do.. She’s isolating herself.. She even sent Eboni back here.
Sarista- It was a tragic thing that befell her pack, Hiei.. Your other new females have dealt with their own losses.. But they’re allowing you to help them.
* Sarista sighs deeply herself.
Sarista- There are some people that are too proud to accept help.. They have to help themselves.
Hiei- Hn.. I understand this.. This is why I’m not going after her.. I just hope she snaps around before she harms her baby.
Sarista- Babies, Love. She’s going to have twins.
Hiei- Again? D--- our kind for being so prolific.
* Hiei looks back toward the west.
Sarista- Come get some rest.. You’ve got another long day tomorrow.
Hiei- Hn. Don’t remind me.
Sarista- Being Mukuro’s former Second, you should be used to such protocol.
Hiei- I hated it then, too.. She had a spy planted amongst one of the packs I met with today.. I saw right through his illusion with my jagan as soon as I laid eyes on him.. But he wasn’t the only one.
* Hiei turns and leads Sarista back into the cave explaining about the other spy he detected during the course of the day’s activities.
