Hinote Kyou Mizu

Chapter 12

Three days after Hinote was born, Yusuke called from the hospital, announcing the birth of his son. Ryu Urameshi was exactly three days younger than Hinote, but about twice her size. The little boy looked a lot like his mother, brown hair and big brown eyes, but already a very quiet child.

While Ryu was quiet, little Hinote had already learned the joy of crying. Her parents were almost never very far away from her when she let out a scream. That was until they learned what a crafty little mind their daughter had; she had figured out in a few short days, that crying got them to her quicker. They in turn learned quickly not to give into her so quickly. That worked, until she figured out that flaring up the cold fire from her fingers would get her parents attention even more promptly than crying ever did. They had to ward her crib, keeping the blue flame she kept playing with from getting out of control.

Amaya had discovered Hinote was as restless as her father was, unless it was when she or her father was holding her. The two adult demons were the only two she would really hold still for, causing all sorts of trouble with her powers when she didn’t want to be held by anyone, including them. When she decided to throw a tantrum, the only two people who could come near her during her fits were her parents, Hiei having the natural capability from his mother to withstand the cold, and Amaya having a demon mother’s blood-tie to her child’s powers and ability to control them until the child could.

She was peaceful at least with the others, allowing most anyone to hold her when she was in a happy mood, except Kuwabara. She already did not like the orange haired man, his behavior as what Hiei called a ‘loud-mouthed fool’ scared the tiny baby into a screaming frenzy whenever he saw her and Yukina was not with him to calm her down.

That tiny child was a handful, but she was the one thing that completely and absolutely melted that cold fire demon’s heart.

She was definitely her daddy’s little girl.

Hiei watched his wife and Keiko smile and giggle as new mothers do, admiring their children. He smiled, actually enjoying the pride he felt in fatherhood.

Keiko smiled as she looked up at Yusuke who was working on fixing dinner for the whole group who were coming over to see the children.

Hiei had not particularly wanted to come, but Amaya had insisted, forcing him to socialize once in a while. She argued she didn’t want their daughter to be totally cut off from others.

“She is part human too, she needs to be around people.”

He had agreed and took his daughter and wife to the Yukimura Noodle Shop. At the moment, Hiei, Keiko and Amaya were watching the children, sleeping side by side in the cradle in the main room of the apartment while Yusuke tended to the kitchen, rolling rice balls for their dinner.

“It look’s like they are already friends. Look.”

Yusuke came over and the two male demons both looked, watching their children sleep. Ryu had his hand on Hinote’s, their small fingers entwined.

Hiei agreed. Hinote had found her first friend.

“Little one, you have a lifetime ahead of you, don’t go and get a pint-sized boyfriend already.”
