Book 5 - Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Kurama and the others were outside the cave as Hiei emerged, Amaya in his arms, her pain evident.

Hiei looked to Kurama, glancing down at his mate. “Can you make it back without us?” The fox demon now in his human form, nodded. Hiei said nothing more as he took off, walking into the trees, opening a portal there.

The fox smiled, knowing Hiei would be taking care Amaya on his own, still not trusting them with the most precious thing he had. He turned and looked to the detective, who had apparently gotten over being drugged.

“Yusuke, you had better go check on your wife. Kaida and I will make sure Kai and Yomena make it back. Botan.” Kurama turned to the other ferry girl, smiling. “Would you mind terribly following Hiei and Amaya, checking up on her?”

Botan smiled. “He wouldn’t want to gate them somewhere in the open. He’s either home, or at their hot springs. I’ll find them.”

They parted ways, Botan gating herself to the demon couple’s apartment. Figuring out there was no one home, she gathered up a few towels, a change of clothes for Amaya and a blanket, heading for the only other safe spot Hiei ever had in his mind, the hot springs.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The black-haired fire demon climbed the rocks above the hot springs, his mate in his arms; her arm’s grip around the back his neck almost crushing. He kept moving, trying to get to a close and safe place.

“Only another minute, Maya. Almost there…”

She laid her head back on his right arm, eyes shut against the pain. “We don’t have a minute.” She clenched her teeth, digging her nails into the skin of his left arm. “Hiei….”

He set her down under a small outcropping, the heat of the early morning sun keeping the rock warm. He kneeled in front of her, grabbing the edges of the dress she had worn in the fight, ripping the front off and throwing it around his neck. He had no earthly idea what he was really doing, but he was going to attempt to deliver his own child.

“Maya…”

He placed his hand on her knee, allowing nature to take its course. She grasped his hand, squeezing it roughly, screaming at the top of her lungs as she pushed.

“YOU ARE NEVER GETTING LAID AGAIN! EVER! I WILL PERSONALLY SEE TO IT THAT YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO THIS TO ME EVER AGAIN! DAMN IT!”

He listened to her, acknowledging the pain, but not the words. He leaned over and kissed her forehead, opening his Jagan eye and encouraging her.

Within minutes, He saw his child’s head emerge, pulling the ripped fabric around his shoulders down to catch the newborn and clean it up. In the end he held a beautiful, healthy baby girl to his chest, cleaning her mouth out as she started taking her first breaths.

Amaya leaned her head back, exhausted. Hiei moved to sit next to his wife and mate, holding their newborn daughter in his arms, the little girl crying, obviously not happy about the situation. Amaya smiled at her daughter, moving her finger over her cheek. The little girl turned her head, her crying subsiding.

Amaya smiled. “She’s hungry. Here.” She took the little infant, readying to feed her. “We’re going to need to get her checked out and cleaned up. And I need new clothes.” The new mother smiled, watching her daughter’s eyes. “She is just like her father, watching everything and knowing exactly what is….”

She looked up, listening. She turned and whispered to Hiei, who was holding still, his body tense.

“Hiei, something is out there.”

He stood, holding his sword at the ready, pure animal instinct kicking in. No one, no matter who it was, was going to come near his family right now. Amaya needed rest; he needed to care for his daughter and his mate.

Who ever it was, was not going to come in to this place, without a fight.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When Botan arrived, she found no evidence of them being there. She listened closely, hearing nothing for a few minutes.

‘Maybe he actually took her to a hospital. If he did, something must be very wrong.’

She was about to leave when she heard screams from the rock outcropping above her. She recognized the sound, holding out her hand for her oar. “Amaya!”

She flew up with her bundle of towels, clothes and blankets, lighting on the ledge outside the place where they were, trying to quietly announce her presence. As she approached, she heard the first piercing cries of a newborn. She smiled and sighed, happy to hear the healthy scream. She put her hand on the rock closest to her and spoke, keeping her voice calm.

“Hiei? Amaya?”

The Ferry girl was met with a sword at her throat by a very protective male demon guarding his mate and offspring. She looked at him, eyes wide and cautious, his clothes wet from sweat, fluids and blood. She put her hands up, trying to convince him she was not going to attack. ‘He isn’t kidding!’

“Whoa Hiei, I am not threat, really! It’s just me! Kurama wanted me to check on you two.”

He didn’t pull his sword down until they heard the laughter in Amaya’s voice in the background.

“It’s Ok, Hiei. Botan can come in and see her.”

He growled and drew back, warily eyeing the other woman, obviously threatened by anyone that dared come near his mate or his newborn daughter. Botan watched him carefully as he knelt down next to Amaya. He wrapped his arm around her as he watched the little baby nurse, apparently finding it fascinating.

Botan grabbed a towel from her bundle, handing it to Hiei and she opened the blanket. She saw a baby that was definitely Hiei’s; midnight blue hair, almost black as night, with dark blue shot through and a small white tuft in the front. She already had his dark red eyes, and was absolutely tiny, as small as she had imagined Hiei as an infant.

She covered both mother and child with the blanket, tucking it under Amaya’s arm as she watched what she would consider to be Hiei falling in love with the little girl.

“She’s beautiful. Congratulations, both of you.”

Hiei didn’t move his gaze as he spoke, his voice almost a whisper. “Hinote.”

Amaya turned to him and smiled. “Yes, Hinote is perfect.”

Botan looked at the both of them, confused. “Hinote?”

Hiei looked up, no smile on his lips, but definitely in his eyes. “Her name is Jaganshi Hinote.”
