Book 5 - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“Come on, Yomena, run!”
Botan urged her friend on as she and the others ran, Kurama keeping the dazed Yusuke close to himself and away from the women. He was having a hard time controlling his libido at that point, calling out for Keiko more than once. The former bandit was not going to take any chances, keeping himself between the others and Yusuke.
Kaida stopped in the middle of the hallway, hands and wings out to tell the others to stop. Something was wrong and it set off a thousand warning bells in her mind.
“The air isn’t right here.”
She walked up ahead and stood, eyes on the darkness ahead.
“I know you are there. Come out.”
The being known as Kurojin stepped out, whip in hand, followed by the woman with spikes in her ears and the man in white. “Allow me to introduce your hosts. I am Kurojin, the beast-catcher of the Tori Hiburakku. This lovely lady is Kasui, and he is Shiro. We are the last three beings you will ever see.”
Yusuke and Kurama instantly were ready to defend themselves, the pending fight giving the battle demon a reason to forget his sex drive for a few minutes, and allowing the fox demon time to bring out his rose whip, both ready for the fight. Neither demon showed fear as they stood, battle demon with spirit gun at the ready, fox demon glaring the other beings down with every sense on the edge.
“Ready, Yusuke?”
The battle demon nodded, turning to see Kaida move to stand next to him, wings spread and ready, a large gold and steel dagger in hand. She turned to him, a feral smile on her face that matched her boyfriend’s perfectly. “Gentlemen, I have the big one. You get the other two.”
They didn’t have time to argue as she flew off, wings an advantage in this battle as she could get away from the tallest of the three quickly. Kurama and Yusuke met the other two head on, the battle demon blasting Kasui with his spirit gun, sending her flying. He approached her, a quick snap of her neck taking care of the female quickly. Yusuke, satisfied she was no longer a threat, turned to help Kurama, who was having a bit more trouble with Shiro.
Kaida twisted and turned in the air, staying just out of reach when she could, trying to get close enough to the man as he attempted to dissect her, striking her only once, slicing a feather.
“Can’t you do better than that?”
He leaned his arms around, sword prepared to swing at her when she saw her chance, taking the palm of her hand and placing it on his forehead. The others stopped and watched, silent as her hand glowed white and Kurojin’s body went stiff. It seemed as if the world stopped, until the body fell forward, eyes void of anything behind them.
The white being realized his cohort was down and ran over, clutching at the body, sword aimed at the winged demon.
“What have you done to Kurojin!”
He never heard the answer as Kurama removed his head with a clean sweep of the whip across his neck. It fell with a thud on ground near the body, which fell over onto his tall companion.
Kaida came down, landing close to Kurama, surveying the carnage. Kaida turned to walk away as Yusuke spoke up, asking the question on all their minds.
“What did you do to him?”
She turned and looked at the rei-kai detective. “Just as I can rebuild minds, Yusuke, I can destroy them, or simply wipe them clean. I destroyed it.”
The two demons and the ferry girls watched her silently as she walked away, not knowing what to say. She turned to them, smiling. “Come on. Let’s get out of here. Hiei and Amaya should be coming soon and we will want to be out of here.”
They followed, Yusuke whispering to Kurama. “Man, remind me never to make your girlfriend mad. Between her and Keiko, I don’t know which one I am afraid of more.”
Kurama smiled. “I am happy to call her mine.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hiei sized up the being before him. He was about Kuwabara’s height, stocky, not very old looking, with a warrior’s stance. He held a spirit sword in his hand, the red glow coming from it casting eerie shadows on the walls of the hallway they were in. He knew the fight would be fierce and didn’t want to underestimate his opponent.
“Get back both of you.”
Amaya nodded, moving the cat demon away from the two fighters. She knew better than to use her powers too much right now, and was done playing heroine. She watched, mentally masking the discomfort she felt. She stood at the side, Kai next to her, watching the two males as they circled, figuring out one another.
“You are an excellent fighter 242. I will give you that. When I kill you, I promise to turn that whelp of yours into a better one.” He grinned evilly, eyes narrowed at the lack of reaction from the fire demon. “What not going to defend your own flesh and blood?”
“I have no need to defend my child against you.”
Ashihito glared at him, unsure of the demon at that moment.
“You see while you have a sword of spirit energy and I only have a sword of steel, I have a weapon far greater at my disposal, which not even you can face.”
The older being looked confused as Hiei went for the bandages on his right arm.
“Hiei! NO!” Amaya’s voice was clear as she screamed out at him, knowing what he was going to do. “You’ll…”
“Amaya, take the cat and get out of here and far away. Go now!”
He turned away from his wife, his motives clear, get her to safety and get rid of this bastard as quickly as possible. “GO AMAYA… NOW!”
She got up and hobbled out, leaning on Kai’s shoulder as they left, the water demon watching Hiei as she left, the entrance just a few feet away.
Hiei breathed in slowly as he pulled at the bloody bandages on his arm, letting them fall off. The familiar black sparks ran up his arm, the flames catching near his hands.
“It’s is not wise to take someone who is very entwined with their family away from them. I have been away from her, and she away from me for far too long. Be glad it is me who will give you the mercy of death, instead of her. While she will drown you in the blessed depths of the ocean, I will give you an eternal funeral pyre.”
With that he, turned loose the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, calling it’s name as it shot from his arm, hitting the other being straight in the chest, hitting some barrier in front of him and bouncing back at the one who sent it.
Ashihito laughed as Hiei absorbed the blast. He looked at the Tori, smiling ferally, causing the being to stop laughing, confused at the actions of the male before him. A sword emerged from Hiei’s hand, causing him to chuckle, his red eyes sparkling with the contained power.
“Never underestimate that which can never be understood.”
He felt two different souls enter the room Amaya, and another one he couldn’t see. He paid little attention to it as he defended himself, the man rushing at him in a craze, being bad with a sword, but stronger than he looked.
The Tori lunged forward, body completely open to attack. Hiei took his chance, lunging the dark sword into his opponent’s heart, the flame blasting him from the inside out. Amaya covered her ears, the sound of his screech piercing her eardrums as his body literally shattered at the blast from Hiei’s Darkness Flame.
Hiei stood in the middle of the room, arms until the side and still as his mind awoke and he remembered her presence, turning to his mate.
“Amaya….”
She sat next to the door, hand on her abdomen, sweating profusely and breathing hard.
“Maya…”
“Let’s go home Hiei.”
He leaned down and picked her up, carrying her out as quickly as possible. He could smell the change in her, knowing his child would make an appearance soon, and it would not be in the middle of the Makai.
