Memories
A/N All characters here belong to Yu Yu Hakusho's makers and producers. I have no claim to any. Even though Shaleeza/Kaletta is not my own fully, just name and storyline. Hope you all enjoy it. I hope I enjoy writing it. It would also seem that I am going OOC on alot of them. I'm not trying too, but hey, it's happening. Sorry!
The room was silent, except for Shaleeza's tears. Genkai sat back watching her cry, a curious expression on her face. Kuwabara, Boton and Karama sat in shock. This woman's spirit energy had just tripled in the span of five minutes. Suddenly, Yusuke, who had moved to wrap a comforting, if uncomfortable, arm around the woman, started to gripe at them. "What are you guys just sitting their for. Boton, you would be better at comforting her then me."
Boton nodded "Quite right" and tried to shake her confusion off. As she wrapped a comforting around around Shaleeza, Genkai spoke softly to her. "How long has it be Sh Shaleeza's voice was strangled on her tears, but she answered. "359 years. Today."
Genkai sat back and looked at Kurama. "Go find Hiei. See if he is ok." Hearing his name, Shaleeza raised her tear stained face and looked to Kurama. They all gasped. Her face was the same, yet different. Her eyes held more wisdom then before and as Kurama studied her ealiealized he was seeing the same heartache and pain he had seen briefly spasm across Hiei's face early this morning when he had mentioned his wife to him. It had been so quick on Hiei's part that Kurama had thought at the time he had imagined it. "Kaletta?"
She looked away, miserable. "Yes. Seeing Hiei was what broke the spell. Our eyes had to meet." Yusuke snorted. "What kind of spell would have that. That is so easy to do." Kaletta shook her head "No, this is not my true form. This is about as far from my true form as you can get. It is not easy to recognize someone on the streets if you do not know what they look like, young man." Yusuke scowled at the young man bit and muttered "Name's Yusuke" which she nodded too. "I have lived life after life since we were last together. All eerily the same, yet different. In all my lives, I was barren and a writer. I had dreams such as those I told you earlier, although only once in awhile."
"You can remember your lives since you were last with Hiei?" Boton inquired.
"Yes. I can now that I have seen him again, as well as my life as an earth apparition." Kaletta sighed softly and looked back to Karama. "I love him, please, make sure he is alright." Karama nodded and left the temple,in search of his friend.
Genkai watched as the companion spirit of Kaletta's suddenly made a bomb dive into Kaletta's abdomen and then flew back out, darting here and there. The moves were now very irritated. She looked at Kaletta again. "You were barren in all of your lives?" Kaletta nodded and surprised Genkai by looking straight at her spirit. "If the spirit is pregnant, then the body will not conceive. I was with child when we were seperated."
She looked down at her hands and held them up, staring at them as if for the first time. "What if he doesn't believe it's me? I look so different in this form then what he knows me to be."
Genkai shook her head "He knows, that is why he left. Your presence affected him deeply." She stood and walked to the door, looking out into the surrounding courtyard of the temple, her eyes open for Karama and Hiei, she spoke again. "Just rest, Kaletta. Regaining all those memories was rough on you. No wonder you screamed in pain."
Kaletta sighed and stared at her hands and then to the others. Kuwabara was watching her silently, a dumbstruck expression on his face. "Wait, what is your true form then?" She smiled a little at him, and then at the others. "You'll see. Hopefully it will be soon." It will be nice to be back within my own skin, she mused.
Once Hiei had adjusted to the heightened awareness of Kaletta he had retreated. He had run, into the treetops, his only refuge. Surely that woman was not his love, his mind screamed. Kaletta had been everything that the woman wasn't. Small and delicate, lovely as a flower. He had felt the floodgate open on her, felt her spiritual energy rise as she had screamed in pain. Her spirit was still so strong, pulling to him, but never as strong as it had been when he had caught her eyes and held them.
They had been devious in their spell. It was so hard to catch the eye of someone on this world. He could have passed her a million times and she would have only been an arm away.
"NO" he cried out. He was letting his emotions control him. He had given up hope of ever finding her again. He couldn't let it control him now. If she wasn't the one, he didn't know if he would ever recover from it. He fell to his knees on the bran "KA "KALETTA!!!!"
His voice echoed through the forest, causing Karama to look up into the trees. Right above was Hiei. He had never seen his friend so distraught. The calm and collected, always thinking, Hiei. He was now kneeling on a branch, his hands in his face. His body emitted his sorrow like a beacon. Karama easily jumped up to stand beside him. "Hello Hiei."
For once, Hiei didn't mind another seeing him in this form. He opened his eyes and dropped his hands, staring off into the distance. "She's so close. I can feel her." Karama nodded "Her spiritual energy is strong. Not as strong as yours or mine, but still. It was not like that when she first entered, only after she saw you. Genkai sent me for you." Hiei was silent. "Is she?" Karama was silent for a long time, thinking over Shaleeza's, no Kaletta's, reaction to the whole ordeal. The words she had said. "Yes, I believe so. I think Genkai does too."
Hiei stood and looked in the direction of the temple before saying softly "Well, looks we we will have to go find out then, shall we?" Karama shook his head as Hiei's emotional barrier fell back into place. "Let's go back then." They both jumped lightly to the ground and walked back towards the temple. Karama wondered at Hiei's control to walk so calmly. So did Hiei. All he wanted to do was go there as fast as possible.
The shadow followed them.
