Hiei's Harem - PT. 17 - Breaking

Gee, I thought that confrontation would get a few rough comments. But I guess you’re all learning that I like to throw curves once in a while. :o) Anywho, on with the story.

Scene 3 ---------------- Meanwhile: Human World


* Kuwabara turns from the sink in the kitchen when Koenma enters through his portal. The godling tries to stifle his snort of amusement at seeing the large, burly redhead adorned in one of Yukina’s frilly aprons.


Kuwabara- Yeah, yeah. Well, somebody has to do the dishes around here.


* Koenma looks around.


Koenma- Where’s Yukina?

Kuwabara- She’s in the room with Staci.. You know Hiei brought her back here, right?

Koenma- Yes. That was a bit of a tense situation.. I never thought Yusuke would’ve pulled such a stupid stunt.


* Koenma watches Kuwabara yank the apron off and toss it onto a nearby chair as he moves closer.


Kuwabara- Yusuke?

Koenma- So you don’t know the whole..?

Kuwabara- No. And we’ll never get it from Staci, either. Thanks to the little freak.

Koenma- Yes. I know what Hiei did.. In a way I understand his motives.

Kuwabara- Then perhaps you’d better tell me. Because when I visited Staci a little bit ago and seen how she is now.. It made me mad enough to take my sword to that little runt the next time I see him!

Koenma- That wouldn’t be wise, Kazuma. Not now. Hiei’s become one of the three Supreme Lords. Just his energy, alone, could incinerate you.

Kuwabara- He didn’t feel all that different.

Koenma- Then he was masking himself. Why don’t you take me to see Staci?


* Kuwabara shrugs and leads Koenma out of the kitchen. They continue their discussion as they make their way through the Shrine.


Koenma- Yusuke learned about Hiei taking some of his memories of what happened while he was captured.

Kuwabara- He didn’t learn anything from us.. We don’t even know what happened with that, either.

Koenma- You know all you need to know about that. Yusuke found out because he took his liberties with my equipment up in Spirit World. Anyway, Yusuke took Staci to use her as a pawn to try to manipulate Hiei.


* Kuwabara pulls up with an ‘eep’ to announce his surprise.


Kuwabara- No way! Is Yusuke still alive?

Koenma- Yes. It worked out reasonably well.


* Koenma looks up at Kuwabara.


Koenma- But I’m afraid it made Hiei’s paranoia concerning Staci’s safety in Demon World even worse.

Kuwabara- So he did the mind thing on her and brought her back here to protect her?

Koenma- Yes.

Kuwabara- But she still knows that she’s pregnant to Hiei. He’s made her think they’re just friends.. like Yukina and I are.


* Koenma rolls his eyes at Kuwabara’s attempt to keep his ‘clean’ image, then sighs.


Koenma- That may change.. after the baby’s born.


* Yukina comes around a corner to reveal herself.


Yukina- Lord Koenma.


* The Prince looks at her. She drops her eyes.


Yukina- I was worried that he’d.. planned something worse.

Kuwabara- If he tries to harm her baby, I..!

Koenma- No. I don’t think he’d do that.. But once the baby’s born it won’t need him.. At least, that’s what he’s telling himself.

Kuwabara- I see. So he’ll just abandon them here.

Yukina- No. He’ won’t do that, Kazuma. I have to believe that he’s more honorable than that.


* Silence fills the hallway a couple moments.


Koenma- I’d like to see her.

Yukina- Come. I’ll introduce you to her. But keep in mind that she wears out quickly.

Koenma- She’s due soon, isn’t she?

Yukina- I believe she only has a few more weeks. The baby is developing rather quickly. His energy is straining her considerably.

Koenma- Human/demon hybrids are usually hard on the mothers.


* Yukina and Koenma leave Kuwabara to continue on to the room where Staci is. The redhead snaps out of his imaginations and follows. When they enter the blonde looks up from a rocker where she’s staring out the large window toward the dark forest beyond. She swallows when she feels Koenma’s strange aura. The Teen senses this and quickly masks himself.


Yukina- Staci, this is a.. friend of Hiei’s.. My brother has asked him to come check on you.


* Staci relaxes with a girlish giggle then stands and moves closer to offer Koenma a hand.


Staci- Oh, Hiei’s so thoughtful.. I knew he was the right choice to give me my baby.


* She leans closer with a conspiratory wink.


Staci- He knows I wanted no part of being tied down to anyone.. My name is Staci. What’s yours, handsome?


* Koenma nearly chokes on his pacifier and quickly removes it to answer.


Koenma- Uhh.. I-It’s Koenma.

Staci- Is that a lollipop? I’ve had such a craving for sweets lately.

Koenma- Well, I’ll.. see if I can get you.. something.

Staci- Hiei says it’s best if I stay here in this Shrine. He’s been my friend for so long that I know he’d never lie to.. me.


* The last word is nearly swallowed up in a large yawn.


Staci- I’m sorry.. I just get soo.. sleepy.. I think it’s the baby that drains me so.. I really need to lay down or I’m going to fall over.


* She rubs the small of her back as she moves to sit on the low bed. When Yukina sees how profusely she’s beginning to sweat with just that much exertion she hurries to get the damp cloth from the pan on the bedtable.


Staci- It’s so d--- hot in here.. Could you open a window please, Yukina?

Yukina- Sure. You just relax and take your nap now, sister.


* Staci nods and lets Yukina help her to lay down comfortably.


Staci- I hate being such a burden. But Hiei knows what’s best for the baby and me.

Yukina- Of course. It’s no problem at all.

Staci- I really miss him, though.. I wish he wasn’t so busy.


* Koenma turns and follows Kuwabara, who’d been propped up in the doorway with his arms crossed watching, out into the hallway.


Kuwabara- You see what I mean?

Koenma- She seems.. mostly unharmed.

Kuwabara- That’s what I mean. At least before she knew Hiei didn’t want her.. She was starting to accept it.


* Koenma’s temple twitches as he looks up at the annoyed redhead.


Koenma- You know, Kuwabara, you really need to get over this mental block you have about Hiei.


* Yukina comes out of the room.


Yukina- I’ve told him that quite a few times.

Kuwabara- The guy’s a jerk! You said it yourself! As soon as she has this baby he’s going to..!

Koenma- Will you keep your voice down?!


* Kuwabara glances toward Staci’s door then turns and leads them back into the kitchen.


Koenma- I was merely stating a suspecion, Kuwabara.. Whether you want to believe it or not, Hiei really does care about her.. In fact, he’s quite enamored with all of his mates.


* Koenma casts a grin toward Yukina.


Koenma- They’re doing wonders for his social skills, actually.

Kuwabara- Just how many.. mates does he have?


* Koenma raises a hand to begin counting thoughtfully to himself.


Koenma- Well, there were ten originally counting Staci.. and minus the young male that was killed by those Spider demons. Then he lost the Ice hybrid.. and Gamaru.. But he found the Hyena hybrid’s son who’s gelded..


* Koenma ignores Kuwabara’s unsettling grunt at that.


Koenma- Then he picked up those three Lynx brothers.. and that Crow Dagon.. Now he’s recently added Sylk’s pack.. That comes to a total of eighteen. Including Staci.. Yes, I think that’s about right.


* He looks up at the redhead who just stares at him with a slightly bluish face for several moments.


Kuwabara- That’s messed up!


* Koenma sighs with exasperation.


Kuwabara- You make him sound like he’s some kind of.. animal!

Koenma- You make him sound like a Monster.

Yukina- Kazuma, if you can’t accept our demon ways then you won’t be able to accept me.


* Kuwabara looks down at her forlornly.


Kuwabara- You wanna go out and get other guys?!

Yukina- No, of course not. I’m a female and an Ice apparition.. It varies for different species.. Because Hiei was the firstborn he takes more after his Fire heritage than I do. They tend to be more.. feral, I guess would be the word.

Koenma- And the Barren Lands is a very feral region. I think it suited Hiei very well to end up there.


* Kuwabara shakes his head and moves to sit down on a chair.


Kuwabara- Man, I wanna understand, Yukie.. You know how much I care about you.

Yukina- Of course I do, Kazuma.

Koenma- Look, just try not to be so hard on Hiei. He’s got a lot on his plate right now.

Yukina- I just hope he doesn’t leave her and the baby permanently.

Koenma- Only time will tell what he’ll do.


* Just then George sticks his head through the oval of swirling light that was left open.


George- Sir, oh, sir, we got a big problem!


* Koenma sighs.


Koenma- What else is new?

George- It’s one of Hiei’s mates, sir!


* Koenma turns to head for the portal.


Kuwabara- Sir,..


* Koenma pauses to look back at his former Detective.


Kuwabara- I just wanna know. Is Human World in danger again, now that Hiei’s so much stronger?

Koenma- I doubt it. He has no more desire for such destruction.. Unless you lose Staci again.


* With that Koenma disappears. Kuwabara looks up at Yukina who has her arms crossed.


Kuwabara- What? It was a legitimate question.. I’ve seen what that dragon of his can do.

Yukina- But yet you say you’ll confront him if he tries to hurt Staci?

Kuwabara- I may not be successful, but I’d d--- sure give him something to think about.


* Yukina hesitantly moves to hug his head.


Yukina- My big, brave.. stupid boy.


* Kuwabara chuckles and hugs her down into his lap then catches her with a kiss that soons turns more passionate.
