Chapter 3

' text' = thought
" text" = talking

Although Angel hadn’t been running for long she found herself on a cliff starring out into the darkness of the ocean at night.

“you can look at it all you want, it’s not going to change anything.” Angel turned around to find the shortest member of team Urameshi standing behind her.

“I have no idea what your talking about.” replied Angel

“ok. Well then lets change this to why you’re here? I mean does Koenma really need a bodyguard here?”

“I don’t know I’m just following orders like you.”

“I choose to be here and fight. I’m not following Koenma’s orders.”

“ what ever I really don’t care why you’re here.” Angel turned away from the beautiful view and began walking away.

“have you been here for the whole tournament?” asked Hiei sounding truly worried about the woman before him.

“yes but I haven’t been watching, it bores me to watch other people fight for nothing.” answered Angel knowing what Hiei really meant by the question.

“shame you should watch you might be surprised and angered by what you see.” said Hiei just before he flitted away leaving Angel there alone to analyze his words.

Back at the hotel Kurama was laying on his bed staring at his ceiling trying to distract his mind from his impending fight.

‘this is ridiculous I’m so wound up about my fight tomorrow that I cant even sleep.’

“I wish Hiei was here he would call me ’stupid’ and then tell me to ‘go to bed’” as Kurama said it he realized how little it took to calm him down and almost smacked himself for not being able to calm down himself. Just as he finished the thought the door to his room opened ever so slightly and a small shadow appeared in the room, closing the door behind it’s self.

“cant sleep fox?” asked Hiei as he walked over to his bed. Him and Hiei were supposed to be sharing a room but this was the first night since the first night on the island that Hiei actually slept in it.

“just a little tense about fighting tomorrow and I cant seem to distract myself.” said Kurama still staring at the ceiling.

“hmm maybe I can help by having you help me with a problem I’m having.” said Hiei looking in Kurama’s direction as if asking permission to continue.

“sure Hiei what’s the matter?” answered Kurama knowing he was Hiei’s only confidant in matters concerning his life.

“have you ever trusted someone with all your heart and soul, given yourself to that person completely and then had them leave. Never to return?” asked Hiei knowing the answer before he even finished the question.

“no but I know something similar why? Did something like that happen to you?” asked Kurama surprised by Hiei’s question, last he checked Hiei wasn’t interested in anyone in a way more then a fighting partner.

“not me but I know this person and that happened to them some years ago but they still haven’t gotten over the lose and I have no idea how to help them.” said Hiei his eyes cast down not really looking at anything.

“have you been there for them? Comforted them when they needed it? that’s all you really can do.”

“then I guess I haven’t been doing a very good job. I saw them today for the first time in months and before that it had been 5 years the gaps increasing as you look back.” said Hiei and for the first time Kurama could have sworn he saw sadness and regret in Hiei’s eyes.

“were you the one who left?” asked Kurama as he made his way over to his teammates bed.

“no but I find that now I am very close to both of them and the worst thing is neither of them seem to know the other is here.”

“well would it be a bad thing if they saw each other?” asked Kurama a little more curious about his friends predicament.

“I really don’t know I mean I know she wanted to kill him but I’m not sure if she still would I mean it all depends on how they find each other.” said Hiei now looking directly at Kurama as if trying to tell him something but just couldn’t seem to get through.

“well it seems there could be a potential problem here but there’s nothing you or anyone else can do but be there for them.” said Kurama as he tried to comfort his friend.

“I just wish I could just tell them about the other.” said Hiei mentally sighing for really trying his not so bright idea.

“well you could but that might not be for the best I mean its all up to you really, do you really want to take the chance of it only making things worse?”

“true. But I still don’t get how someone could just get up and leave one day not caring about the person they were with. Could you do that?” asked Hiei forging genuine curiosity for Kurama’s answer.

“I don’t know I mean if it was for a good reason. Like saving that persons life. But for no reason. no I couldn’t.” replied Kurama as he replayed his past situation in his mind.

“and if you had a chance to see that person again after you left would you?” asked Hiei truly curious about what Kurama’s answer would be.

“if it were me I don’t think I could, I would be to ashamed that I had to leave in the first place. And I would want them to be happy and if that meant moving on then so be it.” replied Kurama his voice taking on a more solemn tone, as if repeating what he had told himself a million times.
