---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a flash, Hiei was gone. It was as if he had never been there in the first place. Mukuro then went back

to work as if nothing had happened. Hiei on the other hand flitted to the portal that led to the Ningenkai,

his speed had increased greatly, he was fast enough to make greater distances before he stopped being an

invisible blur, to become a physical solid shape again. When Hiei slipped through the forest, he immediately

resided in a nearby tree, Katana in his lap. Hiei's katana was a now black blade, that was sharper, more

deadly and more defined. The handle was an onyx black, in laid with amethyst stones, the amethyst flecks

coated the smooth handle of the blade to make it seem in sunlight that the black onyx of the blade was

dark enough to have purple flecks dance along it easily. The katana was a simple black scabbard. Hiei had

made no effort to get a fancy scabbard. Hiei settled there quietly and was soon asleep. he would sense

anyone approaching and had nothing to fear. If he was caught unaware again, he would slash to kill, no

matter who it was.

The old Hiei had disappeared now.

When Hiei finally awoke, he decided that he would go see what was going on. It was early morning now

and he was sure it was before anyone was still awake. Hiei decided against his better judgement to go and

visit Kurama. The pollen most likely had faded by now and that meant that Kurama was probably safe to

approach now. Hiei flitted to Kurama's window, and was not prepared for the sight he saw. Hell, he hadn't

even been expecting it.

Kurama was on all fours bent over a gorgeous young woman, his fingers fondled her nipples, and his hips

thrust into her before he pulled back and thrust forward again. His crimson red hair remained plastered

to his forehead as he thrust in and out of the woman below him. She moaned wildly and insanely, as if

she had never experienced such pleasure before in her life. Hiei was sure though, that she hadn't.

Kurama had over a thousand years of experience in pleasing his lovers. Not that Hiei would know since

Kurama hadn't exactly been gentle with him. Hell, Kurama hadn't even been a lover! More like a beast

that was just taking what it wanted! Hiei said nothing and instead just left the branch he'd sat perched

on.

Hiei was seething with anger and his rage was only growing as he watched. He decided it wasn't worth

watching an unfaithful mate. Kurama was committing one of the greater taboos in terms of their being mated.

Fire demons were fiercely loyal demons that, once they were mated to another, never strayed. They never did

anything sexual with another or even thought about another that way. The mate was expected to do

the same.

If Kurama never accepted or realized his role and allowed Hiei to reciprocate the mark, Hiei would

eventually die. He would die because the ritual wasn't complete just yet. It was like baking a cake half way

through and saying it was done. Hiei was the half baked cake in this scenario. Hiei would survive for another

year before he finally gave in and began to die. However, knowing Hiei, he would not say anything to anyone

until the very end. Hiei would never speak of what Kurama had done to him until his death. Even Koenma would

not be able to save him this time.

Kurama briefly looked up. For a minute there, he had though that he had sensed Hiei, but like a flickering

shadow, it was gone just as quickly and Kurama assumed it to be nothing more than his imagination. Hiei had been

gone for four months, and while Hiei was known for his anti social personality, even Hiei should have eventually

made his appearance by now. Kurama dismissed it moments later, seeing as he was busy with Sakura. He moved his

hips faster, eager to reach completion for the both of them. He would find out tomorrow if Hiei was actually

here. Knowing Hiei, what happened tonight would be ignored. As Hiei would probably put it, Kurama had his needs

and was simply fulfilling them. Too bad Kurama didn't know that he had made a mistake by not only letting Hiei

see what he had done, but by sleeping with another period. Even if Hiei had not seen, he would know, his body

knew.

Hiei flitted to the temple to see Yukna sitting on one of the benches in the courtyard, feeding the birds

at her feet with bread crumbs. While Hiei did not show himself or let his Ki flow unrestrained for Yukina to

sense him, he remained, watching her feed the birds and eat her breakfast at the same time. Hiei felt a small

fondness for her still because she was his sister, but not anymore. She would not keep him tied here any more.

He had had enough. Everyone had failed him and he no longer believed in anyone but himself.

Hiei snuck off the property and pulled up the hood. Letting out a disgusted noise with the state he'd

found Kurama in, and now, himself, he decided to leave the temple grounds. Instead, he wandered aimlessly.

He had nowhere to go anymore.

One month later

It was a beautiful day and Hiei found himself resting in the trees near the portal on Genkai's grounds.

Although, at a sudden noise, he flitted towards the sounds, curious to see just whom was visiting his sister

again besides Kuwabara. When he saw the gang there, he froze. He was not going to be part of this, there was

no way. Yusuke on the other hand, noticed Hiei, cackling, he called out "Come join us Hiei! We're just about

to eat lunch! Well, we're waiting for Kurama, but anyways! C'mon in and sit with us!" Hiei hned and ignored

Yusuke promptly. He even was able to ignore Kuwabara who said "Don't bother Yusuke! We don't need the shrimp!

We're fine without hi-Oh~! Yukina!" Kuwabara was just as easily distracted when Yukina came in carrying the

food.

It wasn't long before Kurama came up the steps smelling faintly of women that he overpowered with the

smell of roses. It would fool a human nose, but not a demon one. Hiei hned and said nothing as he watched.

It wasn't hard to figure out why anymore because a woman came up the steps after Kurama where he waited for

her patiently with a smile on his face. From how long he knew Kurama, Hiei knew that the smile was partly

faked and that Kurama didn't mean it. Kurama wrapped his arm around her waist as he led her inside the

temple. From where Hiei sat, he could see everything going on inside from where he sat. He saw Yusuke,

Kuwabara, Keiko and Yukina. Yukina ushered Kurama and the woman in. After introducing her as Sakura, he

asked Yusuke "Has any one seen Hiei? I've got something I'd like to share with you all." Yusuke sniggered

and said "He's around here."

Kurama nodded. Kissing the woman's cheek, he said "Wait here, I'll go get him, and introduce you to him."

The woman nodded to show she understood and Kurama got up to go outside. After finding the tree hiei sat in,

Hiei stiffened. Kurama called, missing Hiei's reaction "Hiei, I know you're up there, please come join us for

lunch, I have someone I want you to meet." Hiei watched Kurama turn and leave without responding. After a few

minutes, he followed Kurama inside. He could not turn down his mate's request. Hiei rarely listened to anyone,

and not only was Kurama the only person he ever really listened to, but Kurama had extra power behind that

request because of his status as the dominant mate. Hiei may have seemed dominant himself, but since Kurama

was the one to initiate the mating, he marked himself as the dominant and held the power over Hiei whether

Hiei liked it or not.

Hiei pushed his hood down, as he followed Kurama inside and sat next to Kurama's woman reluctantly. Kurama

beamed at everyone and said "Everyone, I'd like you to meet my fiancee, Sakura." Everyone clapped and

congratulated Kurama and Sakura except for Hiei of course, but then again, Hiei never did participate much in

front of others. Hiei didn't say anything or even react seeing as he didn't know how to. Hiei knew what

fiancee meant, and he knew that it was the human mating ritual, but what he didn't understand was why it

should affect him any more than normal? Kurama had never made him happy, only served to disappoint him more

and more as of late. Sakura turned and smiled at Hiei politely and said "Hiei-san, Kurama has told me that

you two are such good friends. I hope you'd be willing to be a part of our wedding and be Kurama's best

man, I know he'd really like that." Hiei stopped.

Kurama smiled at Hiei and said "Yes hiei, I was hoping you would be willing to do that for me, I will

let you think about it if you wish though." Hiei hned. This was too much for Hiei. Kurama had the guts to

bring a woman to pass off as a human mate to his real mate, and pretend it was alright. Not only that

but he was asking Hiei to support it! His own mate! Even with Kurama's knowledge of the demon world, he

should know that that was practically a slap in the face, telling you that you were unworthy as mate and that

to seek pleasure, your mate had to find a human to please them! You can bet that Hiei was insulted and

furious! First his mate cheats on him by sleeping with another, a taboo, then, smacks him in the face by

telling him that he was a terrible mate that was unable to fulfill his lover's needs so a human mate had

to be taken to sate them. The final blow was Kurama asking that his own mate approve of this insult by

participating in the wedding! Hiei had never been more insulted, angry or hurt in his life. Kurama

had in essence taken their mating bond and stomped all over it.

Hiei was someone whom always treasured the mating bond, knowing it was a sacred bond, and knowing

that when he finally chose to mate, it would be someone he trusted. It would be a bond he knew that,

although he couldn't reciprocate the love very well, he would respect and he expected his mate to do the

same. Kurama was failing him as a mate, and a lover. Not that he expected Kurama to be a good mate, after all

the Youko was known more for his promiscuity than for his loyalty to one mate. Still, Hiei at least expected

Kurama to not take another mate.

Although, some of this was Hiei's fault as Hiei had told no one that the mark on his shoulder proclaimed

him to belong to Kurama. The smell from it was kept hidden by a seal of Ki, and by the clothes Hiei wore,

masking Kurama's scent and mark from the world. Still, Hiei felt a pain that he had never felt before and

didn't know how to cope at all. He did the next best thing that he knew to do. Which was, to flee. He

had no choice but to flee, after all, the longer he stayed, the more pain he felt. This pain was worse

than any wound he had ever gotten before. It hurt a lot more for a bloodless wound and Hiei didn't know

how to deal with it anymore. Hiei got to his feet without a word and turned on his heel and left, leaving

behind a room full of confused people. As Hiei left, he heard Kurama comfort Sakura whom had burst into tears

thinking that Kurama's own best friend hadn't approve of her at all. Kurama told her reassuring things, intent

on comforting his human mate when the real mate he should have been comforting was his demon one whom

he had done nothing but insult lately.

Before Kurama could stop him, Hiei took off, going deeper into the forest to hide out there for the time

he had left to spend in the ningenkai. He could survive for five months without food. If worse came to worse,

he would just hunt some game and light a fire to cook it. Hiei didn't stop moving until he was far away from

the portal and at the edge of Genkai's territory. Finding a cave, he took refuge in there for the night. He

needed a place to hide. A safe place to hide, think and plan. If this was Kurama's decision, to tell Hiei that

he was an unworthy mate, then so be it.

Hiei knew he would die, but, there was no way to change something when it was set in stone. Kurama had made

his choice, and Hiei had made his. Kurama would have Hiei's death on his hands, something Hiei knew would hurt

Kurama greatly, but there was nothing to be done. Kurama was engaged and the way Kurama seemed to act around the

woman suggested he wanted this, and that was all Hiei needed to know. he would respect his mate's choice, no

matter what the consequences for him would be.
