Chapter 3

A couple weeks passed by, Kurama kept up his vigil at his mate’s side. However after that night he had company, Hiei sat watch with him. That Monday Shuichi’s parents returned home to find a note on the door stating that he was at the hospital and that his brother was staying with a friend.
They went to the hospital a little concerned only to find Shuichi and his friend sitting on each side of the bed containing a boy about Shuichi’s age hooked up to a life support system. The nurse that showed her to the room explained to her what had happened to the boy. She and her husband were horrified. She asked if the boy had any family, the nurse told them that she didn’t know, but probably not. It was then that Mrs. Minamino made up her mind to take the boy in. She walked up to her son and sat down next to him. He took a hold of her hand with his free one and just sat there holding the hands of the two people he loved the most.
Another week passed and Shuichi and Hiei were sitting at Kiren’s bedside. Shuichi was doing his homework and Hiei was dozing. Kiren’s heartbeat was getting stronger as was his breathing, which made Shuichi feel more at ease with having to leave him, Hiei kept watch when he had to go to school and home.
That night just before the hospital’s visiting hours were over with Kiren woke to Shuichi holding tightly to his hand sound asleep his head resting on the side of his stomach. Gently he lifted his free hand and ran his fingers through his love’s beautiful red hair that reminded him of a blood red rose that he grew in his garden in his back yard.
As he lay there running his fingers through his sleeping companion’s hair he noticed another sleeper on the windowsill. Just then a nurse came in making her rounds, when she looked up she nearly dropped her clipboard in surprise. Kiren just smiled and placed his index finger to his lips indicating silence. She walked up to him and checked his vitals. As she was doing this he asked her how long he had been out, she told him nearly a month. He asked her about his parents, his only answer was her dead silence.
“When’s the funeral?” he asked her a strange look in his eyes.
“They wanted to wait until you awakened.” She told him.
“Or until I joined them.” He said plainly.
The nurse looked up as if to protest but remained silent. When she was finished with his hand he went back to stroking Shuichi’s hair. It was at that time that he woke up. Kiren looked into his eyes and smiled, “Hello sleepy head.” Shuichi looked around to see if there was anyone watching. Only Hiei was in the room with them and he already knew. When he saw that they were relatively alone he took Kiren’s mouth with his and gave him a deep heartfelt kiss putting all his emotions into it. It was enough to take Kiren’s breath away. When Shuichi reluctantly broke the kiss Kiren smiled and said, “I missed you too.”
