**Two Years Later**

Hiei had done well for himself in the two years he moved back to the Ningenkai. He was now Japan’s number 1 bounty hunter. He was constantly traveling all around the world to catch “bad guys”. Most of the group still hadn’t gotten over the irony.
Yusuke had settled down as well. He was now living in Genkai’s temple, and had accepted his role as the spirit wave’s new master. His son, now almost five years old, was training with him. His son had exceptional spirit energy and a minute amount of demon energy, and Keiko just couldn’t keep up with him anymore. Keiko said that the last straw was when his son accidently blew up the apartment. So long, his training was coming along really well.
By now Shizuru and (to Hiei’s regret) Yukina had children of their own. It was amazing that Kuwabara was still able to walk.
Hiei walked down the cold, barren street, shrugged into his jacket. Winter had hit like a six-foot ogre club to the face. It was Christmas day, and everyone else was out of the street, and inside. This was the first Christmas ever that the whole gang had decided to meet up. That’s right the guest list contained Kurama, Shizuru, Koenma, Boton, Yusuke, Kuwabara, Yukina and all their children and so on.
Hiei couldn’t help but feel nervous, it was the first time in almost two years he was going to see Yusuke. Hiei wanted to tell Yusuke how he felt, but he wasn’t sure if the words would come out of his mouth, and even if he did what good would it do? After all, Yusuke had a son and was a master of the spirit wave now. Would he even have room for Hiei?
He met up with Shizuru and Kurama at their new house. Their so, Saku, was almost two, and the biggest pain in the ass you could ever meet. Between Kurama’s power and Shizuru’s sixth since, the kid could pack a wallop. He usually used Kurama’s pants to wreak havoc on the house, and eating the neighbor’s dog. The one time Kurama had tried to put him in timeout, let’s not talk about it. Let’s just say, that it wasn’t just the neighbor’s dog.
“Uncle Hiei!” Saku ran to Hiei. Because of his demon blood, he developed much faster, and showed the characteristics of a five-year-old.

“Hello Saku” Hiei said nicely. Hiei had learned from experience not to piss this midget off.

“Uncle Hiei, where did you go? Did you bring me back something?”

“Yes” He said, talking a small trinket of a pharaoh “I got that in Egypt.” Hiei said giving it to the runt. He looked up at Kurama and said “How have you two been?”

“Umm… alright” Kurama said a little shaken by the shorty’s new attitude.

Hiei had gone soft or so they said. He now fully understood that his friends were the only family he had (excluding Yukina). If an enemy made the mistake of thinking that Hiei was weak, though, well, it was the last mistake they ever made. Hiei had also learned over the years tact and negotiation, all though he still had a sarcastic bite.

Kurama was dressed in a black tux, and Shizuru was in black dress pants and a nice red shirt. Hiei had decided not to dress formally, but he was wearing a blue Chinese shirt and a nice pair of jeans.
“Well we should get going, right?” Hiei asked.

“We’re meeting Kazuma and Yukina here as well. Kika won’t be coming though, they found a baby-sitter.” Shizuru said. She was of course talking about Yukina and Kuwabara’s adorable daughter. She was amazing and the sweetest girl you could know. Her weakness: Kittens.

Sure enough, around the corner came Yukina a Kuwabara. Yukina was dressed in an absolutely stunning kimono, he hair simply braided. Kuwabara was wearing dress pants and a simple black shirt with a tie. He was now teaching the “history of demons in culture” at a local collage. Yukina was working a local animal rehabilitation center. They were doing very well.

“Hey Shorty!” Kuwabara called out, making Yukina gasp.

“Hello, moron.” Hiei replied.

“Hey that isn’t nice you know!!”

“Will you two stop it? Everyone is waiting for us!” Shizuru snapped, making everyone move into high gear, and climb into the nearest cab.

*At Genkai’s*

Yusuke was hurriedly trying to put everything together at the last moment. OF course, every time he picked something up, or place it somewhere else, his son went over, and promptly destroyed it. He had just destroyed one of Yusuke’s martial arts trophies, and was now giggling evilly.

“Trophy go boom Daddy!!! Trophy boom!” Yusuke rolled his eyes and said

“Yes, Kei, trophy go boom. Now why don’t you go in the dojo and train for a while?”

“Kay!!” he said, before running into the dojo. Yusuke could hear the punches and kicks making contact. He turned around to resume his work, and there Genkai stood.

“Jesus, Grandma! Mind warning someone!”

“Oh, shut up you dimwit! Boton and Koenma just got here, and the others are on the base of the mountain.”
Yusuke did a mental gulp before calling Kei in. All three of them made their way to the dining-ish room. Boton and Koenma sat on mats, and then got up to greet Genkai and Koenma.

“Hello, Yusuke” Koenma said.

“I see you still have your pacifier.” Yusuke joked.
Boton cut Koenma’s rant off, to say “Where it your son?”
As if in response Kei shot a bit of energy at a wall scroll, setting it on fire. “Boom! Boom!” He said shrilly while giggling profusely.

“Is that an answer” Yusuke replied dryly.
Before they could respond though, they heard Kuwabara’s megaphone voice yelling “Who are you calling and idiot, you pint-sized murderer!” They looked to see the others making their way up. Both Kurama and Shizuru were smoking, obviously trying to tune the other out. On top of the racket of Hiei and Kuwabara, Yukina was noisily pleading for the rest of them to settle down.
Yusuke gleefully smiled before saying “Hey! Kuwabara! Give Hiei a break, it’s not his fault he’s short and Hiei, Kuwabara tried that whole being smart thing, but we were afraid his mind would catch on fire.”

“Urameshi, I am a professor now, at least I have a job!”

“Trust me, just taking care of this little-“ He turned around and Kei was gone “Shit”. He could hear the scream before he saw what had happened. He turned around to see Kei dumping water on Boton.

“Water is wet!” Yusuke smacked himself on the forehead. Kei may act innocent, but he knew exactly what he was doing.

“Kei, go do 100 kick! Now!” Yusuke barked at Kei.

“Okay…” Kei sulked as he walked to the dojo.

Yusuke crashed to the floor, sitting at the table, as everyone else followed him and sat. They talked of the old days. Occasionally one of them would talk of demon world, and Yusuke and Kuwabara told stories from when they were nobodies on the street.

“So even back then you were weak.” Hiei scoffed.

“Look you! You never won against Urameshi either, and you are a demon. You were beaten by him when he was a nothing human!”

Hiei growled, he didn’t have the patience to put up with this. Every time anyone even mentioned Yusuke’s name, Hiei would remember that night. He didn’t want to stand for this any longer. He sighed and stood up.
“I’m going for a walk” He said grabbing his jacket and storming out.

“Wait!” Yusuke shouted “I’ll go with you!” He grabbed his coat and followed Hiei out. Yusuke walked out the door, and Hiei hurriedly walked down the steps. Yusuke followed him through the dark, moonless night, only the stars were their company. It seemed so still and quiet, like time had stopped to forever preserve one of the most awkward moments in history.

Hiei finally stopped walking and turned slowly around to face Yusuke. “Hey, Hiei” Yusuke finally said with a smile. He walked forward slowly and said “I’ve missed you.”

Hiei looked up at him then looked away and said “Yusuke… I think I love you too, but if you tell anyone that I swear to god I will track you down and torture you slowly.”

Yusuke burst into a loud, warm, roaring laugh. “You haven’t changed at all, Hiei.” He said, walking up and wrapping his arms around Hiei, hugging the small demon tightly. Hiei stood awkwardly for a couple of minutes, not knowing how to react. He had never actually been in an emotional relationship before, and he didn’t understand this. He calmed down and listened to the rhythmic pattern of Yusuke’s breath. Yusuke slowly and carefully leaned down to kiss Hiei, and found that the demon did not resist. He kissed him chastely on the lips before saying “God Hiei, I really did miss you.”

Hiei mumbled lightly and broke apart, coughing lightly. Yusuke laughed again and put a hand on Hiei’s cheek, and said “Hopefully one day, you will let me in, past you emotional barrier.” He kissed Hiei lightly again before saying “Come on, we should go back in before the others come up with a whole lot of naughty stories about what we were doing.”

Hiei looked away for a moment, then looked back at him and said “Hn, maybe we could do some of those things one of these days.”
Now it was Yusuke’s turn to look away.
