Discovery

Chapter Two: Discovery

Hiei finished having breakfast and left the temple. He decided that he’d wait awhile before seeing Koenma and asking more about the woman. Genkai had some useful information, but he still wanted to know more. He spent a good amount of time in the forest behind the temple looking for any signs that the woman had been there. There wasn’t anything that showed she’d been there recently. If Genkai had a hard time sensing her, he didn’t want to take the chance that he would miss her.

She had a lot of explaining to do, but he really just wanted to talk to her, get to know her and find out why she felt so familiar to him. Her eye color wasn’t all that strange in Makai, but he never recalled seeing her before the Dark tournament. For some reason his Jagan couldn’t find her. After several hours of searching he relaxed on one of the branches of a tree.

Flash back

Earlier, during the Makai tournament, she showed up again. She had entered the contest and easily defeated all her opponents. He never saw her use a weapon; maybe her opponents were too weak to warrant using one. That impressed him, for he could clearly see the sai in her boot as she jumped to dodge. As the matches continued, he got to meet her before his fight with Mukuro. It was away from the waiting area but close enough to hear when he was up.

“So we meet again,” he said casually.

He stood very close to her so that others didn’t listen in on their conversation, and because he liked the thrill that was going through his body. He paid more attention to her scent this time and it clearly sent his head spinning. Oddly enough it smelt familiar but looking into her eyes he was quickly forgetting what he was thinking about. She stood at equal height, so he was hiding her from others view unknowingly.

“Hmph.” He could hear the smirk.

“Why are you here?” He asked.

“I thought anyone could participate. I also wanted to see who had replaced Raizen.”

Not wanting to talk about Yusuke and suspicious of her, he asked, “Why are you being called by number and not by name?”

“I don’t want others to know I’m here,” she replied looking away for a moment.

“Will you tell me your name?”

“Not now,” she said sternly. He decided not to press the matter further. It also left the possibility of meeting her again.

“Do you think you can win?” He asked with a small grin.

“I probably could, but I’m not interested. I just want to have some fun and see what others can do.”

Not exactly the answer he expected to hear, although interesting if she felt fighting in a tournament, with two of the three rulers of Makai, fun.

“Why do you come to me when I’m fighting?”

“Does it bother you?” There was a mixture of sadness and concern in her voice. He honestly expected to hear sarcasm.

“No.” He answered that just a little too quickly. But he could see the relief in her eyes. “I’m just curious. Do you visit other fighters as well?” He had this suspicion that she was searching for a mate. A tournament was a good place to find potential candidates.

“Jealous?”

“Of course not.” He snapped. He hadn’t expected to sound angry. He really wanted to know if he was the only one. It would have made him feel special. But if she was attracting another there would be a fight for her attention.

“Don’t be so defensive. I was just teasing. And no, I don’t visit other fighters, but that doesn’t mean they don’t talk to me.” A small smirk graced his face.

She slowly lifted her hand to his face, but paused, looking unsure. He took her hand and brushed his lips along the knuckle then turned her palm face up and placed it on his cheek. He could see the surprise in her eyes and hear the effect as she breathed his name. It was the first time he’d heard her say his name and already he wanted to hear it again in the heat of passion. Hiei nuzzled her palm, all the while his eyes never left hers. Since he couldn’t see her face he had to read her eyes. Then the feeling passed as she broke the contact between them. She acted nervous, almost afraid and took deep breaths to compose herself. He was about to ask what he did wrong but was being called to the battle site. But he had to know one more thing before leaving.

“Will we meet again?” He whispered to her.

“When the time is right.” And with that she disappeared again. Hiei went to fight Mukuro and lost. Shortly after that, fighter 0608 dropped out.

The dreams were becoming more frequent. Did that mean they would meet soon? Kami, he hoped so. He had a strange yearning to have her wrapped around him at the moment. He wanted to see her in all her glory and bury his nose in her hair to breath in her exotic and unique scent. The thoughts alone were making his whole body tingle. He needed to cool down.

He leaped off the branch, landing soundlessly on the ground and closed his eyes to focus on listening. Moments later found him walking in the direction of running water. He walked east for about half a mile and saw a beaten path. The path led him to a tunnel in a wall of rock. Upon reaching the other side, he realized he had just walked through a hollowed out tree. The sun was shining through the mist of a waterfall running into a stream.

It all lay amongst a clearing surrounded by trees and rocks with a light canopy shading the area from sunlight. The soft grass swayed in the gentle breeze and flowers cover the forest floor, as did a few large boulders. The place was peaceful and quite, except for the sounds of birds, insects and running water. He crossed the stream by skipping on the rocks to see more of this wonderful place.

Looking around, he noticed something very odd about 10 meters from the base of the mountain and about 9 feet up on a small ledge. There was a door or curtain fashioned from large leafs and covered by…wards? To either side of the leaves was what looked like holes, possibly serving as windows?

Curiosity demanding to be satisfied, he carefully climbed up to the ledge to look over the wards. On the ledge, were several dead rodents, insects and a couple of birds. They’d all been burned quite badly. The wards hide the curtain of leaves from site and prevented entry. There were a few he wasn’t familiar with, but it didn’t seem to affect him. Most of the wards were written in blood, and one in particular caught his eye. Upon smelling it, his eyes widened. The blood was his. Was he expected to find this place? The ward allowed entry to the owner of the blood.

Seeing that he had permission to enter, he did just that. He felt something tingle around him, but he wasn’t pushed back. The cave was dark, but that didn’t hinder him. A small flame appeared in his hand to light the way. As he stepped in, his senses were assaulted by the scent of the very woman he’d been thinking about. He knew at that moment, this was where she stayed when she came to the human world. He turned to the side to see the holes by the entry way. The glass in the window was made of obsidian. It was rare to see volcanic glass with so little impurities. The cave opened up from the start of the entrance which was about 6 feet in height to about 8 feet once inside. A few candles scattered about lit themselves as he passed by.

‘Sorcery.’ Hiei extinguished his flame. He was no stranger to magic, but it was very rare. Kurama used magic in the form of potions that he made with his plants. The width of the cave was a good 15 feet across. He found this unnatural as far as caves were concerned and felt it was created by someone and not nature. In touching the wall his suspicion was strengthened further. The wall was too smooth for nature to provide.

To one side was a pit surrounded by rocks with burnt wood and ash. The pit contained glowing red stones. He picked one up to examine. The stone was warm to the touch. They were fire stones one would find in the heart of volcanoes and then enchant to control the heat released. Moving on, the floor dipped a step and from then on was covered in furs. He removed his boots and left them by the dip; another candle lit to expose the large bed area. It looked very comfortable.

Removing his cloak, he crawled onto the furs. He buried his nose into the fur lined pillow and inhaled her scent. The scent wasn’t very strong, but it was there. He moaned into the pillow feeling her scent cloud his senses and wrap a blanket around his body.

Kami, how he wanted her! Power had been one of the three things in life he’d wanted asides from finding his sister and his mother’s hiruseki stone. But now, he wanted this woman as his own. If the visions he’d been having were anything to go by, she was meant to be his and his alone. But why such a long wait? And why didn’t he ever dream about them having sex? All he remembered were hugs and kisses. Other times he was fighting along side her, with some guy with bat wings and another that rode a flying hippo.

He was already over a hundred years old and his body SCREAMED to take a partner. In another year he’d be in heat again as he did every ten years and he was tired of locking himself away for a week. It wasn’t that he didn’t want sex; it was the fear of marking another accidentally. If they mark him back he was stuck with them for life. He wanted to be in control of himself and be conscious of the partner he chose.

Her scent was driving him crazy. Hiei ground his hips into the fur panting and moaning. He closed his eyes and pictured her face as she looked in his dreams. The only name he was able to remember was Calli and he wasn’t sure if that was her name. He sat back on his heels to remove his shirt and unbuckle his pants. Lying on his back, he pulled his pants down around his ankles. He pictured her hands touching him. From what he remembered, her hands were soft but firm.

He ran his hands along his chest, teasing his nipples until they hardened so he could pinch them. His back arched off the furs and he moaned, almost as if his body was calling out to her. One hand continued down to glide along his stomach and lightly touch his throbbing erection. He was hotter than normal, perspiration forming on his face and chest. He would normally explore more of his body, but he couldn’t really concentrate on anything except the scent that surrounded him and the image of her hands exploring him to the point of completion.

He gasped and whimpered when he finally took hold of himself and pumped it slowly at first, then gradually increasing his pace. His body was withering on the furs, hips thrusting into his hand, “Calli,” he whispered.

Hiei spread the pre-cum around his shaft to ease the roughness of his callous hand and allow him to go faster. The pressure was climbing and his balls tightened. He moved his other hand to the skin just under his scrotum and caressed it until he released a silent scream. His seed erupted over his hand, stomach and chest. He convulsed a few times before dropping back onto the furs.

When his breath returned to normal he moved his hand to his face and licked it clean, all the while thinking it was her release he tasted. Once done, he removed his pants and made his way to the stream outside to clean up. It was ironic that he had first come here to find a place to cool down and ended up finding what he was originally looking for.

Stepping into the cool water, he cleaned off the last of his release and looked around for anything he could use. By some rocks, he found some reeds which he cracked and removed a gel like substance. He created a nice thick lather and spread it along his skin.

He breathed in a sigh of relief as most of his tension melted away. But he knew it would be short lived. His body was calling on him to take a mate, but he hadn’t found any he wanted to spend his existence with. He had thought about Kurama at first, but he had only felt lust. Kurama couldn’t him a child, which was something he really wanted. Mukuro had been a potential mate since she was strong and a kindred spirit. Their lives were similar to some extent, even though she was much older. But she doesn’t smell right to him and was barren.

He felt as if his very soul wanted to leap out and embrace the woman with amethyst eyes. He considered her a worthy partner because of her power, the sound of her voice and the beauty he knew she had inside. He wanted her to embrace him and never let go. He wondered for a time if this was what humans called love, for the feeling was so strong. When he had asked the fox the meaning, even he said it was hard to define. ‘You’ll know when you meet them.’

He decided to stay at the den until she showed up. With any luck she wouldn’t avoid the area just because he was there. She too was strong, so she shouldn’t hesitate to be around him. He rinsed off the last of the suds and got out. He flared his energy to dry himself and went back to the den. He later took the time to clean the entry way of the corpses that littered the ledge.

That night Hiei had another dream just as clear as the last.

/////Dream/////

‘Have you seen my wife?’

‘Not in the past hour. ……I gotta say I’m glad you came to visit. It’s gotten kind of lonely around here now that all my brothers and sisters have passed away and my nieces and nephews are going out into the world,’ his friend said.

It was night and he was behind a railing looking out to the lake around the castle. ‘It was her idea. Besides, it was time to find a place to settle down for awhile,’ he said looking to his pointy-eared friend.

‘Well, you’re welcome to stay as long as you like. I know you like the water here and it’d be nice to fight you every so often.’

Gliding down the hall with his friend close by, ‘Have you heard about the others?’

‘No. I did visit Tenka a while back…He died last year.’

He looked at his friend in disbelief, but then calmed himself. ‘I see.’ He regretted not having visited Tenka often. He had married a woman who ran an Inn just down the road from Rinto Outpost and had four children with her.

‘It’s kind of comforting in a way that he gave up his powers for her. He was in love and she was human. How do you think he’d feel if he stayed young while she grew old and died?’ His voice held a mixture of sadness and reflection.

‘…He’d be alone.’

‘Precisely. You’re lucky you have a wife who’s also immortal or you wouldn’t be here. You love her don’t you?’

‘Yes,’ he replied without hesitation.

‘Good because I’d hate to see a beautiful woman like her heart broken. I really wonder what she sees in you sometimes. I can’t believe you two have been together for almost a hundred years.’

They made their way to the common room but only found a few servants around. ‘So when are you going to have children?’ He asked, continuing to move in search for his wife.

‘Soon. I found a really nice girl who likes me for who I am. It’s not every day a guy like me finds a girl who accepts him even though he looks different, you being a good example.’ His brown eyed friend gave him a knowing smile. ‘I still can’t believe you got a girl before me though.’

‘That’s what you get for playing the hero all the time. I’m surprised we found you at home. Have you started courting her?’

‘Yeah. You should see her. She’s really pretty with her long red hair and bright green eyes. She’s smart too. She’s teaching some of my great-nieces and nephews that live here. We’ve been trying it out for a year and I’m going to marry her soon. So it won’t be too difficult to find me in the future because I’ve decided to give up my powers. I’ll be here and you can stay as long as you want.’

‘Following in Tenka’s footsteps.’ It was a statement not a question.

‘Yeah, I am,’ he gave him a serious look; ‘Parents should never out live their kids.’
He knew that was true and his friend had already seen his future and decided it was time for a change. ‘Promise me you’ll look after my kids when I’m gone.’

He stopped to look at his friend for a long moment before moving again. ‘For awhile. You know I’ve never been one to stay in one place for too long.’

‘That’s better than nothing. Now, let’s go find your princess. She’s probably in the gardens. I hope she dances tomorrow for the harvest moon festival.’

‘Shut up.’ They flew off in the direction of the gardens.

‘Can I ask you one question before I shut my trap?’ The seriousness in his voice made him nod. They landed by the doorway to the castle gardens. ‘Why don’t you two have children of your own? I know you adopted a couple of kids awhile back but it’s not the same.’ He was intercepted before he could answer.

‘Because we can’t, Rai.’ The answer came from the voice of the woman he’d been searching for.

‘Oh.’ Rai looked at the ground sounding a little sad and disappointed. ‘I didn’t know.’

Calli walked over to her husband and placed her arm around his waist. ‘It’s not anyone’s fault. We are happy with the kids we adopted and we’ll be doing it every century. There are always children that need a home and the love of a parent and friend.’

‘You’re right. I’m a bit embarrassed considering I was found in the woods and dad took me in.’ Rai scratched his head and had the decency to blush. She gave him a smile that could melt ice.

‘Raishinshi was wondering if you were going to dance for the festival tomorrow. I don’t want you too.’ He said looking at his wife.

‘I’ve only danced twice in all the times we’ve come to visit.’ She said in her defense.

‘I don’t like that way others look at you.’

Raishinshi spoke up to avoid an argument. ‘You don’t have to. I just thought it’d be nice. Before he met you I never thought of Nataku as the jealous type.’ Looking back to Nataku, ‘Besides, everyone knows she’s taken and in the two times she’s danced there’s never been a problem.’ He hated to admit it but Raishinshi made a very good point. But he still didn’t like to see men drooling over her and looking ready to attack.

‘Fine.’ He closed his eyes in defeat.
