Memories of a Hated Ghost
" Hiei! " Yukina called as she heard him open the door.
" Who's that? " Kurama asked.
" My sister. " came a whispery reply from Hiei.
" You're sister!? " Kurama cried, astonishment clear in his voice.
He floated on ahead.
" Oh, shut up. "
" What did you say, Hiei?! " Yukina called.
" Nothing. I'm going upstairs. "
Fast footsteps came from the kitchen.
" Hiei, wait. At least eat something. " Yukina said quite worriedly.
" I'll starve, thank you very much. " Hiei said coldly.
" Hiei, please. "
" No, thank you. "
" Hiei... "
Kurama's apparition blocked his path, " You should at least eat a
sandwhich or something. " he scolded. " She looked like she just worries
about you, Hiei. "
" You stay outta this! " Hiei hissed at him.
" What? " Yukina said shocked.
" Hiei, " Kurama said. " It's just food. "
" Fine. " the spikey-haired boy snorted.
Yukina beamed, and hurried down the stairs. For the remainder of the
afternoon, brother and sister sat munching on a rather, quaint dinner,
Kurama no where in sight, Hiei figured he left. Afterwards, Hiei raced
up the stairs muttering a feeble thanks as he passed his sister.
He opened the door to his room, shut and locked it, and to his
surprise, there stood Kurama, staring out the dirty window.
" So this is your room. " He murmured, a hand to his chin.
" Hey! Get outta here! " Hiei hissed at him.
Kurama poked his tongue out at him, " Good luck with that! You can't
touch me! "
" Stupid ghost. " Hiei muttered making his way to his closet.
" What are you doing? "
" I'm changing. " the spikey-haired boy said, closing the door behind
him. " For all I know, you could be checking me out and waiting to rape
me in my sleep. "
" I can't touch you, you know. "
" You know what I mean! " came a muffled retort.
A few minutes later, Hiei emerged, dressed in a black loose pants and
a black oversized shirt.
" Wow. Black. " Kurama said flatly. " You have such colorful
wardrobes. "
" Oh, shut up. " Hiei said flopping on the bed and just laying there,
eyes closed.
A few minutes of silence passed by.
" So you just sit there? " Kurama said, shattering the quiet.
" Yeah, so? " Hiei replied, eyes still closed.
" You should at least do your homework. "
" Hm. " Hiei placed a finger to his chin in a childlike manner, "
tell me, I'm unfamiliar with the ways of the Teacher's Pet; what is
this... 'homework'? "
" Ha. Ha. Ha. " Kurama said in monotone. " Come on, Hiei. You don't
wanna end up as a janitor, do you? "
" I hear the pay's gettin' pretty good. "
" Oh! " Kurama let out an exhasperated sigh. " You're impossible! "
" You sound like a mom. "
" It'll make your sister happy. "
Hiei growled, and sat up, snatched up his backpack, and emptied the
contents on the floor. A waterfall of papers flowed out of the backpack,
fluttering to the floor, 'freedom!' they seem to be cheering. 'freedom!'
Kurama grinned, he had won in their little arguement.
" I hate you, you know that right? " Hiei muttered.
After digging through the mass of papers and fished something out.
" You look smart. " Hiei said turning to him. " Help me out, will
you? "
Kurama floated next to him.
" Not so close, " Hiei said, backing off some. " You're cold. "
" Sorry. " Kurama apologized. Then he looked to the paper, " The
answer is the square root of 5. "
" What? "
" The answer to number one is the square root of five. "
" No way, how'd you answer that so fast? " Hiei stared at the paper,
which to him was a jumble of crap.
" I was pretty smart before I died. " Kurama said with a smile.
" Than explain this too me. What is that checkmark thing above the
five? "
" It's a square root. It's basically the opposite of the square. "
The blank look on Hiei's face was all he needed to know that the
spikey-haired boy was completely and utterly lost.
" Really, are you sure you're not supposed to be in like
second grade or something? "
" Oh, shut up. "
After a few hours of homework (Yukina popped in halfway and was
completely delighted to see her brother doing homework), Hiei crawled
into bed, his right hand throbbing with so much writing, and his brain
practically liquifying and oozing out his ears with so much stuff crammed
in it.
" God, where do geniuses cram all of this stupid knowledge? " Hiei
muttered, throwing the blankets over himself.
" 'Stupid knowledge'? " Kurama cocked an eyebrow. " That's an
oxymoron. "
" A what? "
" An oxymoron, it's when-- "
" You know what? Never mind, I can't stand the sound of learning. "
Kurama chuckled a little. The redhead looked around, his flaming red
hair flowing behind him, as his forest green orbs scanned the room. He
hovered to Hiei's closet quietly, unsurprised to him, his entire closet
was filled with black garments. Kurama looked down, and saw something
shiny at his ghostly feet. A shard?
" Hiei, what's this? " Kurama called, turning to the closet door.
" Describe it to me, I'm too lazy to open my eyes. " Hiei called
back.
'Lazyass...' Kurama thought. " It's a purpelish plastic shard. "
" Oh, that? That's just a piece of Karasu's mask I accidently broke
off. "
" Karasu? "
" He's a teacher at my school that's supposed to be known as Mr.
Nokishima, but he says the 'Mr.' part makes him feel old. "
" Huh. " Kurama turned to the shard again. The piece of plastic
seemed to gleam at the floor, seemingly signaling him to pick it up with
his ghostly hands. Unconsciously, Kurama reached for it, just before his
semi-transparent finger stroked the solid figure, a sudden shocking
feeling went through his entire body. He drew his hand back quickly with
a groan. His whole form felt as if it were burning. His mind was
racing. Kurama slumped down, his body twitching as if in pain.
'What... what is this...?' the redhead thought. 'I feel
something...'
...Ba-dump...
'Is that...?' His eyes widened in fear and astonishment.
...Ba-dump...
'It's a heartbeat.'
...Ba-dump...Ba-dump...
'Is it my heartbeat?'
...Ba-dump...Ba-dump...Ba-dump...
" Very good, Kurama... " came a voice.
Gasping, panting... the smell of blood [A/N: yeah, I know, he's
dead and suddenly he has the ability to smell... I know... weird...]and
semen, so thick it was sickening...
" You were always such a good boy. "
'Who is that? Who's talking?'
" Noo... "
Kurama gasped, 'That's me!! That's my voice!!'
A dark room. Very dark. Dimly illuminated by four candles, set
equally apart, their light so weak, it didn't even reach the floor. Two
figures were at one of the walls of the room. One was standing, the
other was lying down at their side, panting heavily. Chains and shackles
adorning his wrists, completely naked and whimpering and crying
helplessly. A flaming red mane... It was him.
Kurama's eyes widened, 'Noo... this can't be... this can't be...'
" Why are you doing this to me? What did I ever do to you? " his
binded self cried at the captor. The other Kurama [A/N: and when I mean
'other' I mean the one that is not a ghost] tried to prop himself up,
only to fall again as his captor laughed at his pain.
'This can't be how I died!!' Kurama's mind screamed.
The captor grasped the other Kurama's chin and forced the other
redhead to face him, " Because, my dear boy, you are so beautiful.
You're prettier than a girl, Kurama, has anyone ever told you that? "
The captor claimed the other's lips with a brutal kiss, " So
delicious... I just want to rip you apart again... and again... and
again... "
Tears rolled down the other Kurama's cheeks, " Noo... " he whimpered.
" Please... no... I'm begging you. Just let me go... I promise I'll
never tell anyone... Please... "
The dark figure chuckled, " Begging looks good on you, my pet. "
" No!! " the ghost Kurama screamed. " This can't be it!! This can't
be how I died!!! "
Blood-chilling screams, his screams, filled his ears as he
desperately tried to lock them out by clamping his hands tightly over his
ears, but the screams penetrated through.
" No!! I can't have died this way!! Not this way!! NO!! " Kurama
screamed.
" Kurama!! " came a voice. " Kurama!! Wake up!! Wake up, dammit! "
" Hi...ei...? " the redhead murmurered. Everything suddenly went
quiet. No more screams. He was back in Hiei's room.
" What the hell was that about!? " Hiei said sharply. " You nearly
scared me to death with your screaming! "
" I-I... Hiei, I-I... " Kurama stammered, his arms hugging his body
in a comforting position.
" Hiei?! Is everything all right? " came Yukina's voice.
" Everything's fine, Yukina! " Hiei said. " I just--just had a bad
dream! "
" Oh... alright... "
Hiei held his breath. He relaxed when he heard Yukina's soft
footsteps descending down the stairs.
" Alright, now what was that about? " Hiei asked the ghost, cleary
agitated at the sudden wake-up call.
" I... " Kurama murmured.
" Yes..? "
" I saw how I died. "
" You never knew how you died? " Agitation faded of Hiei's face.
" N-No. I could never remember. " Kurama looked as if he was on the
verge of tears. " But now I remember. It was so horrible. I was in a
dark room, with that... that rapist. "
" Rapist? "
" Yes. Slowly killing me... " Kurama buried his face in his hands.
" I could feel every emotion that was running through my body. Fear.
Humiliation. Anger. I could even feel his last penetration in me... "
He choked back a sob. " His pet. That's all I was to him. His pet.
His entertainment. Just some... some... "
" Kurama stop. " Hiei said softly.
" I didn't know what I did wrong. I was a good student, I loved my
mother dearly, I was a good person, what did I do to deserve that death?
I thought nobody cared. When I became I ghost, I was so angry. I just
disappeared from existence, suffering and rape taking me to my death, and
they went on with their lives as if I was never even there to begin
with!! Why!? What did I do? What did I do?! " Kurama fell to his
knees, his entire body shaken with sobs.
" What did I do? " he sobbed. " What did I do to deserve this? "
" Nothing. " came a soft reply.
Kurama looked up through his sobs, " What? "
" You didn't do anything, Kurama. " Hiei said. " You didn't deserve
to be treated like that. "
'I would never treat you like that.' Hiei thought.
The redhead came him a smile through his tears, " Thank you so much,
Hiei. "
" Hn, no problem. Good night, Kurama. " Hiei said pulling the covers
over himself.
" Good night, Hiei. " Kurama replied.
