Cafe Meeting
Chapter Three
"Which one do you think she is?" Yusuke looked at the group of girls sitting at the table trying not to groan. The three girls sat on the other side of the cafe, all of them were noisy. They were cutting up with the two males sitting at the table. One of the young men was this Hojo that they had followed from a safe distance. None of them looked like they could be his sister. His nerves were on end waiting for any indication of which one was Kagome Higurashi. That was the name that Hiei had gotten from the woman.
"Hopefully, none of them." Hiei sneered at the sight of the overzealous females. If he had to imagine a female version of Yusuke, none of them girls matched it. He'd be very disappointed if one of them turned about to be the girl in question.
"Need I remind both of you that sister means female. She wouldn't be anything like Yusuke, we can only hope anyways." He chuckled at the glare he got. Green eyes landed on the man, looking at the smooth lines of his face. His heart clenched at the sight, he sighed in disappointment. What he wouldn't give to have his affections returned.
"Maybe we should go over and ask which one she is. Hiei can't you just try to read their minds or something?" Yusuke was getting impatient with waiting.
"I don't think so detective, there's no telling what stray thoughts I'll pick up. You will just have to be patient, I refuse to torture myself. I refuse to listen to the ramblings of teenage females." Hiei leaned back in the seat, atleast he was getting a free meal out of this.
Kagome ran down the street looking at her watch. She was suppose to meet her friends at the cafe ten minutes ago. Her mother had held her up with a bunch of questions. Wanting to know where she was going, when she'd be back and was she okay? She was tired of her family asking her that everyday. Over a year had passed since her journey through the well had ended. That was a part of her life that was behind her.
She still missed her friends from that era and she missed him. But she had said her goodbye to Inuyasha before she had come home. In doing so she had given him the one thing she thought he wanted, a life with Kikyou. The woman really wasn't that bad to begin with. She had loved Inuyasha enough to let him go. Everything had turned out for the better in the end in her opinion. She was back home and alone but it didn't matter. All her friends had been left happy in the past. Her life was in the future, she'd find something to do with herself eventually.
It had taken a lot of effort to get out of highschool, yet she'd done it. Her mother wanted her to go to college. She wasn't sure if that was the right thing for her, she hated school now. Being able to run free in the fuedal era had spoiled her somewhat. She had been free in a sense, now she felt cramped.
The cafe came into view, finally she'd made it. She pushed the door open and walked in looking for her friends. As soon as she walked in her eyes turned to the left, a shocked gasp escaped her. Youkai were sitting at a table not far from where she was standing. She rarely sensed any since she'd come back, not that she went out her way to locate any. There was no denying what they were, she could feel their power. All three turned to look at her at the same time.
"Hah, there you are," Eri stood up at their table and began waving her over. "Over here Kagome, we saved you a seat."
Kagome turned away from the three men at the sound of her name and groaned. 'No, they didn't just do what I think they did. If thats Hojo's head I see, I am so out of here. Yep he's coming this way, I'm going to run for it.' She tried to smile as the man walked over before she could join them.
"Higurashi, its good to see you again. I hope you are feeling better." Hojo grabbed her hands before she could react. "You do look a little pale, should I walk you home?"
"Nope, I'm great. Let's go sit down, the others are waiting for us." Kagome pried her hands out of his. She turned when she felt herself being watched. The three men were staring at her like she'd grown another head. No doubt they could sense what she was, just her luck. She'd be eating across from a bunch of youkai that were glaring at her. Well, maybe a little warning wouldn't hurt. She glared back at the three letting them know she was aware of them. Her eyes landed on the shortest one when his power suddenly flared around him.
She smiled at him, she concentrated and her aura picked up. His eyes narrowed at her at the display of power. A hand was placed on her elbow drawing her attention away. Hojo was smiling down at her, she was going to kill her friends. She was given a seat on the outside next to Hojo. Her friends continued their conversation after she sat down and ordered.
She ignored what was being said not really caring about who was dating who. It all seemed too pointless to her. Eri was talking about her cousin having a broken heart over some guy she'd been dating for a month. Kagome felt like telling her to shut the hell up. No one at this table knew what real heartache was. Maybe she was just being cynical but who could really blame her? After everything she'd been through in her short life. Everyone at this table would have died the first day.
They would never believe her if she tried to tell them what she'd done. The girls often asked what really happened between her and Inuyasha. What could she tell them besides they had broken up for good. Real dinner conversation opener there, 'Yeah, I wished his dead girlfriend back to life so they could be together.' It didn't matter what they thought or did, what mattered is what she believed. She had done what was best for everyone including herself. Inuyasha wasn't meant to have a life with her, as much as it hurt it was still true.
Her gaze turned back to the three sitting at the table across the cafe. They were still staring in her direction for some reason. Maybe it was the dress she'd chosen to wear, she laughed at the thought. They were youkai, she was a miko; no explanation needed. As long as they left her alone she wouldn't bother them. She was done with hunting after their kind, some relaxation was what she needed.
"Well, what do you think?" Kurama turned to look at Yusuke, it was Hiei that answered.
"I say that woman made a mistake with the name. If that girl is her, explain to me how the hell she is a miko."
Kurama thought about it for several minutes, "Well, Yusuke was powerful before his blood kicked in. So we can assume that she would be also. Her powers could have taken another form, she has holy powers. If so any youkai blood from Raizen would most likely be purified. I'd like to know how she became that aware. It takes years of training to get ones power that high."
Yusuke looked at the girl in question, was she really his sister? What did he do now? Would she believe him if he approached her? Probably not, "So what do you suggest?"
"I doubt she'd believe you, if you told her the truth. I'd suggest getting to know her first before you decide anything else." Kurama smiled at the waitress when she brought them their food. She winked at him causing him to blush.
"Dammit Kurama stop flirting, this isn't the time for it." Yusuke yelled at him causing the girl's face to turn beet red. She gave him an evil glare as she placed his plate on the table. "Remind me not to get any refills."
