Yusuke, Hiei and Kurama waited outside of genkai’s, they had been there for the past 15 minutes and you could tell it their patience was getting low. Just as Yusuke opened is mouth to complain again, Botan flew down from behind him, catching him off guard
“Botan!!! Do you have to do that!!”
“Kuwabara can’t come” came her response, ignoring the detectives yelling.
“what do you mean he can’t come?!” Yusuke screamed, they had waited and waited and he couldn’t come?!
“Shizuru is making him study, usually I can get him through a window but she super glued them all shut”
They all stared at her dumbly for a moment, before a small smile crept onto Kurama’s face, a small smirk onto Hiei’s and Yusuke burst out laughing.
“HA HA!! The big oaf is locked in his own house because he has to study!!”
Which earned him a prompt hit on the back of the head by Botan. “Yusuke don’t laugh! Atsuko should at least make you go to school!” yusuke began to glare at her
“Damn Botan Keiko already does that!”

~~~~~~*Ish a flashback*
The night before a rather dangerous and important mission everyone was at Genkai’s having dinner and basically a party. Though there were two people who didn’t always get along at these types of occasions, and they were both standing on a hill away from all the noise, except one was smoking and the other was glaring at the cigarette smoke as she blew it out. Luckily she noticed,”Hiei is my smoke bothering you?” she threw it on the ground stmping on it, causing Hiei to relax his shoulder slightly. “hey can I ask you a question and a favor without you using my sex or race against me?”. Her question was rather blunt, and she said while staring out at the stars in the sky, so he was able to look at her in shock and she not notice.
“Hn” she gave a small grin and looked to him now as their gazes met, and for once he looked in the eyes of a human and didn’t see fear and he didn’t see pity or arrogance, he nodded. “ you care for yukina alot right?” she saw him nod, with a slight glitter of suspicion in his eyes. She took a deep breathe and tried to say this right,” well that’s how I feel about Kazuma, I really don’t want to him to get hurt…and I was hoping you could look out for him, you know make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid and get himself killed”
He was going to say no.
He was going to say he didn’t do favors for anyone.
She just had to have that pleading look in her eyes, he could almost see the hope there.
“I’m not asking you as a friend Hiei I’m asking you as a older sister, because you know how it feels to want to protect your sibling”
He just nodded.
Later he would ask himself why he had been so weak.
He would excuse it by saying it was a momentarily lapse in judgement
He would tell himself it was because of the smoke that still lingered in the air, or the dull noise coming from the temple.
He would never admit its because some how there was some shred of him that could relate to this girl. He had seen how she worked nearly full time to earn enough money to feed her brother, how she was so adamant about him getting into a good college and making sure he made something of his life. He had also seen her toss and turn at night, and he heard her small sounds of pain, the small whimpers and silent sobs. But she never cried around people, never when she was awake. He had even seen her several times, wake up in a manner that made it seem as if she were being attacked. She always seemed nervous and worried, though never quite scared as she would walk to her brothers room and make sure he was there, that the window was sealed and that he was still breathing, her attention to detail never ceased to amaze him.

Shizuru sat on her front porch, actually she sat on the ground in front of her door, she was smoking as usual and wasn’t in the mood to go inside, or even drink she just wanted to sit here. This was the place she sat when Hiei came by, ever sinse she asked him to watch over her brother he would stop by when she was sitting here every once in awhile , they…well they would have as much as a conversation as you can have with Hiei. So for a little over a year now they had these little visits. She knew she probably took them to seriously they probably meant nothing, not only was she a woman (hiei never seemd to have any interest in the female race except for yukina), but she was also human.
Yes she had super glued the windows shut, it was the good kind of glue to. She wanted her brother to grow up and make something of himself, to be succesfull, have a nice house and a family and a great job, maybe even rich. She could never be that…. Kazuma wasn’t always so bright but he was a good person with a good heart and hs ehad confidence in him, she wasn’t going to let him give up and she wouldn’t give up on him, they were all they had in this world. She was working really hard to push down her feelings for Hiei, over the year and half span he and her had actually been talking she started to want him as more than just a friend….it was the hidden pain in him, but he would put it aside to protect Yukina which she found to be a very enduring quality, then he had the badass attitude that showed he wasn’t afraid of anything. Then there was the intelligence he hid from everyone. Speak of the devil, she felt a familiar throb in her heart that told her a powerfull youkai was near, and a gentler, more butterfly like feeling that told her who it was exactly, as a reflex she stomped on her cigarette.
“super glue?” she heard the slight amusement in his voice as he voiced his question, he was totally lax around her, but still he was more alive.
“yea nice touch eh’?” he nodded as he gave a small smirk
“I should have filmed botan trying to help him escape” she laughed and leaned back against the door, sighing as she closed her eyes “So how’s things goin’ with Mukuro?” she asked in her usual casual tone, she asked this once a week, as if poking and prodding for something specific. He looked at her with slight amusement in his eyes.
“Annoyed” she laughed again, her eyes still closed
“ at you?”
“ hai” she sat up with a grin “c’mon Hiei do I have to shake it out of you?” he looked at her as if she was insane for a moment before scanning the area around her.
“where is the bottle?” she laughed loudly as she hit him lightly in the chest.
“she says I have been defiant” he watched her face go from shock to amusement
“ did you tell her she can little forbidden ass?” he gave a low chuckle as that
“no, she is not the person I want to touch me like that” his voice was low and held a slightly suggestive and seductive tone, which made her blush as her eyes met his.
“I- I better go unlock Kazuma’s door” she stood and scrambled into the house.

That night he slept outside of the fox’s house and was startled several hours before dawn as he heard the fox’s phone ring, he listened closely from his place outside in the tree just outside of Kurama’s window.
“Hello?” he answered in a groggy tone
“Kurama?! Kurama!!! You have to help it’s a emergency!!” he held the phone away from his ear as he heard Kuwabara’s frantic yelling
“Kuwabara calm down,now tell me what is wrong?”
“It shizuru she’s missing!!! She always leaved me anote telling em where she is going but she isn’t here!!”
“Kuwabara calm down get yusuke and we will meet you at your house” with that he hung up.

he didn’t know what it was that was making his heart beat so fast, or why he was starting to come near panic, but as he raced to the Kuwabara house he stopped and realized these odd feelings were clouding his better judgement, he had felt the small nudge on his mind that signaled someone was trying to talk to him. He had blocked it, brushing it aside as the fox informing him about shizuru, whom had minor telepathic abilities.
He relaxed his mind and listened, tanking a step back when he heard her slightly angry,screaming voice in his mind.
‘ HIEI!’
‘ Shizuru where are you?’ came his slightly less calm than usual voice
‘I’m being attacked by demons,hurry I have atsuko with me, were about 10 minutes from yusuke’s to the east!’
He took a sharp turn to the left and once again took off as a black blur, heading towards yusuke’s, he started searching for her aura,finding it quickly he turned slightly. Then her scent filled his nose, she smelled the same, like fire and dandelions, no shred of fear. He followed it, before another scent hit his nose…blood. Her blood, he ran faster feeling his blood start to boil at the very thought of her being harmed, he found her faster this way, he saw atsuko, very clearly drunk slouched against the wall and Shizuru standing if front of her in a fighting stance, her black shirt was wet with blood on her right side. Two ugly looking youkai turned as he entered the alleyway, just as he noticed the body on the ground to his right, looks like she got one. He drew his sword and stepped into a fighting stance also, but as soon as the youkai saw who he was they disappeared, scurrying up the walls, he was preparing to give chase when he heard her gasp out his name as she lost consciousness.

as she awoke her firs thoughts were of atsuko, then of Hiei.
“hiei?” she whispered faintly. Her right arm reaching out as she started to sit up, then stoped up abruptly her eyes squeezing shut in pain, she didn’t relax until she felt a gentle hand on hers.
“calm down, you aren’t fully healed” she stopped, took a deep breathe and released it slowly.
“you caught me” she smiled as she said this “ did you expect me not to?” this hit her like a bucket of cold water, she could hear the sadness in his voice, even the slight longing.
“I was afraid to hope that you would care enough to come” he didn’t know why those words hurt him so much, but it did… like… he couldn’t describe it it just hurt. If she didn’t think he cared… he got up and prepared to leave, when he felt someone grab his arm and jerk it back towards her.
“Hiei I didn’t mean to make you upset its just….I’ve been trying to repress my feelings for you, and I didn’t want to get my hopes up that you might return them, because then it would hurt when you didn’t” he was stunned to say the least, first she says she has feelings for him, and that she was hiding them, next she says she had guaranteed herself he wouldn’t feel the same. All he knew now is he wanted to banish her fears, make her realize how much BS they were. He leaned down and captured her lips with his in a passionate kiss, he heard her gasp as he lightly nibbled at her bottom lip, sucking the edges of it into his mouth, he took the opportunity to dart his tongue into her mouth. It immediately starting caressing hers, before circling her mouth, exploring every possible crevice before her tongue met his again, this time it was a battle for dominance and he smirked against her mouth: always a fighter. He pulled back to allow her to gasp for air and to look in her eyes, he saw no fear nor hesitation.
“shizuru are you sure about this? We don’t have to, I won’t hold it against you”
“No hiei..please?” her voice pleaded with him, yet it wasn’t begging.
He lay his body and top of hers’, propping to majority of his weight on his arms as he bent down and licked the outer shell of her right ear, before dipping is tongue in and moving down, sucking her earlobe into his both giving it a few small nips. Earning him a small moan from her, that’s when he felt her hands ghost across his back, under his arms and over his chest. Moving lower to massage his abs and ribcage. Which got a low groan from him, he released her ear and moved down to her jaw line,planting random kisses along her neck and windpipe as he moved down to her collarbone, biting it lightly as he started tugging at her shirt impatient to get it off. He once again moved downward, placing random kisses here and there until he got to her bra, which he quickly disposed up with a swipe of his claws.
