CHAPTER THREE

"So, Koenma thinks he can send his pets after me?" Naraku sneered watching the group through Kanna's mirror,
"Over 400 years you've tried to stop me and you've yet to succeed. I'd thought you'd give up by now." He chuckled a bit, evilly. "I'll play with you son of King Enma, and soon I will be able to escape into the modern world!" He now loudly cackled. Kanna smiled.

Yusuke entered the little hut and seen Yoko laying on a futon. He sat on the ground next to him. The ends of his silver hair were deep red, showing he was slowly fading into Suichi Minamino again.

//I don't know what I'd do if you died...//
Yusuke closed his eyes and sighed. He opened them when Kurama moved some. He was now fully in his ningen form.

"Yu...su...ke?" He rasped.

"Hey! Glad your awake!" He sung, holding back tears he didn't know were coming.

"N-nani?" He opened his glazed emerald eyes.

"Someone had some herb trap laid out. But we found you in time, and met the Higurashi girl."

"Did she have a bike?" Kurama slowly sat up.

"Yep she's our cyclist. You okay, you don't look so hot?"

"I'll be fine, now at least...whoever prepared my remedy had a great knowledge of ancient plants. I must thank them later." He smiled weakly, "So, what did I miss?"

Yusuke went on to explain all he had just learned. Kurama had also heard of Naraku.

"Tomorrow were gonna try to hunt down that Kagura and see if she can lead us to Naraku. Right now you should rest though."

"Yusuke?" Kurama's voice was different.

"Huh?"

"Could you stay with me?" The green eyes pleaded. "There's no windows here and you can lock the door. Plus Hiei is being too much of an ass to notice."

"That Foxbane must sill have your head jumbled up, usually your so shy." Yusuke smiled locking the door.

"Maybe..."

The Reikai Tantei laid down next to the Kitsune, who pressed his face against his chest.

"It's strange, being here. The smell and sights." Kurama whispered.

"Must be like a trip home for you."

"Mhmm..." he nodded sleepily.

"I can't believe a normal girl could be going back in time so regularly. You think it would alter the future somehow...Kurama?" Yusuke looked down at a now sleeping Kurama. He sighed and shut his eyes as well.

//Better sleep now, things will only get crazier...//
He thought before fading into dream.

"So, what do you think Inuyasha?"

"I dunno...I don't sense anything weird about them...I think their telling the truth."

"Aye Koenma-sama's dealing are not known by just anyone. That Yusuke boy has an aura similar to yours Kagome." Kaede sipped her tea.

"Really? But he's not a priestess obviously."

"Nay, but he does have the soul of one who fights great evil. Pure despite his appearance and actions. Most likely why Koenma-sama chose him."

"Oi, Baa-San? Just who is this Koenma? It sounds familiar..." Inuyasha folded his arms.

"He is the son of King Enma, the ruler of Spirit World."

"Oh..." Kagome and Inuyasha gaped.

"Hai, he is very important. His laws and actions maintain the very fiber of life and death."

"Like a spirit police chief?" Kagome asked.

"Pool...ese?" They both looked in ignorance.

"Nevermind..." She sighed.

Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kuwabara were already asleep, only the three sat deep in thought.

"Baa-san, do you think they can defeat Naraku?" Kagome broke the silence.

"Keh! I'd like to see them try! We don't even know if they can fight!" The impatient hanyou interrupted.

"Maybe so, but Koenma-sama wouldn't employ weaklings. Aye, they were sent here so I guess that means Spirit World believes they can."

"I hope so, for the worlds sake. Not just mine, here too. If that well opens fully every youkai for miles will come here. The village will not be safe."

"No where will be." Inuyasha added to Kagome's statement. The three nodded solemnly.

"Either way we should get some rest, tomorrow will be very challenging."

"Right."

With that said the busy little hut became silent as the night covered everything with it's soothing darkness.

//Fools!//
The tiny Koorime thought to himself.
He was perched on top of the hut Kurama and Yusuke were in. He used his Jagan eye to check on the red head, only to find him once again in the arms of Yusuke Urameshi.
//It's bad enough he walked into a trap and almost died, now he's with him again.//
He clenched his fists angrily.
//These idiots are getting excited about their own deaths. They have no comprehension of Naraku's true power...and I'm stuck here in the middle of it!//
He sighed.
//I must be the truly stupid one.//
He looked up at the moon. It was different somehow, bigger, clearer.
//Like his eyes...//
Hiei's mind drifted for a second before he scolded himself.
//He obviously has no use or need for me.//
Flashing to a nearby tree he settled himself comfortably, closing his eyes. A tense, worried look on his face.
