More of A Mild Persuasion
“Is that what you wanted to hear?” he asked Botan brusquely.
Botan her voice barely audible said, “I hate you.”
Yusuke woke up at his room. His mom was scurrying about and screaming at him to get up as he was already late. He felt like his head was about to split in two.
Something is very wrong.
He considered staying in bed all day but his mom was too much for him. He got up and got himself ready then sauntered on his way.
“Your head is rational again?” Hiei smirked. Yusuke looked up to see the fire demon resting on a tree branch.
“Hey.” He said.
“Quite a show you put up last night. Too bad I only heard it all from Yukina.” Hiei replied.
“Yeah. Well I remembered entering a club, just not the events that followed.” Yusuke answered.
“How about we give you a play by play?” Shizuru said stepping up to the pair along with Kuwabara and Yukina.
After hearing the previous night’s chain of events, Yusuke felt hollow. He apologized to everyone, but his mind was somewhere else.
How could I say such things to her? She’s one of my closest friends. She was there for me right at the very beginning.
He could feel his stomach churn.
“Find her.” Yukina said. At that, he ran as fast as his feet could carry him. He looked everywhere but he couldn’t find her.
A few days later he found Kurama on the school benches, bent over his notes. Kurama sensed someone approaching and looked at Yusuke’s direction.
“Feeling a lot better, Yusuke?” he asked. “You want to know where she is, don’t you.” Kurama asked again reading his mind.
“Tell me.” Yusuke replied.
“You really hurt her you know.” Kurama said, his eyes never leaving Yusuke’s.
Yusuke started to ask again but he was cut short by Kurama. “You can’t find her here. She went back to Rekkai.”
“Thank you Kurama” he uttered. “And I apologize for that night at the bar…”
“It’s not a problem.” Kurama replied.
Yusuke dashed to Rekkai to find Botan, leaving Kurama to himself. You better make it right, Urameshi. Kurama said to himself.
In Rekkai, the pretty eyed ferry girl was arguing again with the ogre.
“I’m to do that too? I have a lot of chores as it is.” Botan said. She was back to her jovial self although a few of the Ninggen girls notice the dark circles under her eyes. Yusuke entered the hall and approached warily.
Botan didn’t notice him as her back was to where he was. George saw him first.
“Botan excuse me, but I think I heard master Koenma call me.” George said and went quickly out of the room. Botan made to follow him to ask another question but stopped when she saw Yusuke standing not ten feet away.
“Hi” Yusuke greeted cautiously. He saw her smile die at the sight of him. He mentally kicked himself for the hurtful words he said to her. He grew desperate when she turned to leave.
“Wait.” He said, reaching out for her. Botan evaded his hands but to no avail. She turned to him.
“Let go! I know I hurt you, and I’m sorry, but I’ve got tons of work here so just come back next time. Or better yet, don’t come back at all.” She spat and turned to go, but Yusuke held on to her.
“I’m sorry.” Yusuke pleaded. “Botan, don’t leave me too. I need you right now.” He said, every word tugging at her heart.
“Yusuke…” Botan went out to him and hugged him. You are my dearest friend. I’m here if you need me.
“Do you like ice cream?” Yusuke asked her, pulling her out the door.
“Is that a bribe?” Botan asked smiling at his eyes.
“No. More of a mild persuasion.” Yusuke chuckled.
It feels so good to laugh. It’s been long since I last laughed. Heck I even forgot about my own heart ache for this girl. I am glad everything is well between us.
