Chapter 3
La de da, next chapter, here we go…
Chapter 3
Hiei Jaganshi opened his eyes to a sunny day. At least he assumed it was sunny. What else could be so bright it stung his eyes?
His head was swimming from pain and dizziness. He groaned at the thought of actually being sick and rolled onto his back. He laid there for a few minutes until some of the nausea faded and he could begin to make out his surroundings.
He reached out with his hand, trying to find that familiar heat source he had become accustomed to waking up beside. Instead his hand slammed on hard, cold wood.
‘What the…?’
Hiei sat up and looked around. ‘What the hell am I doing down here?’ He was lying on the floor of the entryway at the base of the stairs. ‘Did I fall down the stairs?’ he wondered. ‘No. Impossible. I would never be that clumsy.’
Then like a rush of water it all came back to him. Toshio, Ada, the job, Kazuma passing out…Kazuma!
“Oh God no.”
Hiei raced up the stairs, nearly tripping in his panic. He raced down the hall and slammed open the door to their bedroom. He froze for a moment, taking in all that he was seeing. He began to tremble. “No…oh please no.”
He staggered over to the bed, eyes fixed on the blood stains in the sheets. The nausea returned at the smell of Toshio and Ada and what they had done.
Rage mixed with grief and for a while Hiei just stood there, unsure of what to do. Then his eyes registered seeing a note lying on one of the pillows.
He picked up the note and the pillow, noticing it still held Kuwabara’s scent and his scent alone. He pressed it to his nose and read the note.
~Wow, Hiei that really was a good fuck! Almost makes me want to keep the big slut myself. But back to business, as I said before I’m not willing to take no for an answer. I’m sure you’ve figured out by now what I plan to do about it. It should be morning by the time you read this. I will call you to give you further instructions tonight. You are to do the job alone. If you make any effort whatsoever to contact any friends, allies or spirit world about what has happened we will fuck the life out of you’re precious mate. Literally. Not the most pleasant of ways to die, trust me.
Talk to you tonight, Toshio~
Hiei read the note one more time and crumpled it up. He let it drop onto the floor in a daze. ‘How could I have let this happen? I cant believe I’ve become so damn cocky I actually let those bastards into my house, left my mate unprotected and allowed myself to fall victim to their ambush!’
Hiei choked back a sob and buried his face into the Kazuma scented pillow. ‘I’m sorry Kuwabara. I’m so sorry they did this to you. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop it.’ Hiei spent the entire day in that bedroom, sobbing, raging and waiting. He sobbed until he had nearly covered the floor in black pearls. Then the rage took over and he trashed the whole room. He ripped up the sheets on the bed, threw chairs and tables across the room, and punched holes into the walls and floor. He broke all of the mirrors and windows and began grabbing random objects and hurling them across the room.
He picked up a picture frame he found in the dresser and got ready to throw it. But out of the corner of his eye he saw something. Something that had always managed to calm him down when in a fit of rage.
It was a snapshot of Kuwabara sleeping. Hiei stared at it and remembered the day he had taken that picture.
Yukina had given him a digital camera for Christmas three years ago and Hiei was trying to figure it out. He had no idea what a camera was or what all of the buttons were supposed to do.
He’d starting pushing all of them randomly and was ready to throw it away when it flashed. In surprise he dropped it and looked around, seeing if anything had happened or, more importantly, if anyone had just seen him.
He picked the camera back up and looked it over. He saw in the screen on the back an image of his own feet.
‘Odd’ he’d thought. Then the image changed and showed a live image of the ground. He moved the camera around watching the images move with it.
Within two hours Hiei had the thing completely figured out and mastered. Now he was going throughout the house taking random snapshots of everything. He’d wandered into the bedroom to find his mate sleeping peacefully.
Quickly he took a picture of it and looked at it in the screen. He stared at it for a long time, just admiring how perfectly the camera had captured his features.
Back in the present Hiei sat down in the middle of his mess and stared at the picture. He was still staring at it when the phone rang.
Hiei stared at the machine that his mate had insisted on getting, still sitting on a surviving table. After the third ring he leapt up and grabbed it.
“Hello?”
*gasping* “Hiei?”
“Kazuma!” Hiei squeezed the receiver and struggled to hold back more sobs at the sound of Kazuma’s frightened voice.
“Are you all right? Are you hurt? Kaz-"
Hiei stopped at the sound of laughing. His blood boiled at the sound of Toshio’s voice. “Oh Hiei, Hiei, Hiei. Why do you sound so concerned?”
“You!”
“Yup. Me. Now, are you ready for your instructions?” Hiei felt his anger taking over. He was shaking with rage and his grip on the phone was at the breaking point. He was ready to begin yelling nasty oaths of his revenge when he looked at the picture still in his hand.
Slowly he began to get back his control and train of thought.
“Hellooo? Hiei, you still there?”
“I’m here.”
“Good. Had me worried for a moment. First things first, the location of the dagger. I’m sure you already know where Yama’s vaults are but this one is in a slightly different location.”
“What do you mean?”
All of Yama’s vaults are up on the third floor with a bunch of guards. The dagger however, is down in the basement with not so many guards. Do you know how to get to the basement?”
“Yes.”
“Good. It’s in the w western area of it. You should be able to find it easy enough. I’ll give you two days to get it in whatever way you think best. I’ll call you again that evening to give you your next instructions.”
“I want to know that Kuwabara is all right first. I want to talk to him.”
“You already did remember? Don’t worry, Hiei, he’s fine. Two days. Don’t get caught and don’t tell anyone.”
"I don’t care what you say I want to talk to-" Hiei cut off when he heard the dial tone.
Toshio had hung up.
Hmm...What do you think did i overdo it?
