Slip of the Tongue Part III

Slip of the Tongue Part III
By cillaxox

I don’t own YYH. I wish I did, but I don’t.

For the past six months Hiei and Kurama have had a relationship based on mutual assistance. They weren’t dating, only helping one another achieve sexual satisfaction. It seemed to be the perfect arrangement until Hiei started having a strange recurring dream. He also started talking in his sleep. He didn’t know what he was saying and the only person who knew wasn’t talking. Kurama knew the secrets that the demon spoke at night. He didn’t put much value in it though, at least that was until tonight.

Hiei lay on a bed in a mess of tangled sheets. His body trembled as the person in between his legs pleasured him. “Kuwa…Kurama!”

Even as he climaxed he cursed his loose lips. He settled against the pillows and hoped the slip up went unnoticed. For a while it appeared fortune was on his side, until Kurama crawled up next to him and asked, “Where was your mind Hiei?”

The fire demon turned his head to the side and pretended not to hear the question. He was content to ignore the fox, but the constant green stare was beginning to annoy him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Kurama played with the apparition’s shock of white hair. “This isn’t the first time you’ve said his name.”

“I’ve never said it before!”

“Not consciously. You’ve said his name in your sleep.” Hiei didn’t want to look at his friend’s face. Kurama placed his hand on the small chin and forced the red eyes to meet his gaze. “Is there something you want to tell me?”

“It was just a slip of the tongue.”

“So far you’ve had a total of 17 slips of the tongue.”

Hiei scoffed and spat, “Damn him! He even plagues me during my sleep! He must annoy me more than I thought.”

The redhead chuckled softly. “I think it’s more than that.”

The fire demon tried to get out of bed, but two arms wrapped around his chest and held him in place.

Kurama said, “I want to talk about this some more.”

“Well I don’t! I’m leaving.”

The arms held him even tighter. One of the dainty hands stroked the sensitive spot behind his right ear. “I didn’t mean to upset you. We don’t have to talk about if you don’t want to.”

Hiei sat back down and reclined against the pillows. Kurama laid his head on the demon’s chest. The apparition spoke in a barely audible voice, “I kissed Kuwabara.”

Kurama jerked his head up and stared at Hiei, his eyes were the size of saucers. “What?!”

“Well, I kind of kissed him.”

The fox narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. “How do you 'kind of' kiss some one?”

Hiei shrugged his shoulders and said matter of factly, “We were fighting, I pinned him and then I kissed him.”

“Why?”

The demon pushed the fox off of him and reached for his clothes. As he dressed himself he told his companion, “I don’t know, I just did.”

Kurama covered his lower body with the bedsheet. “Do you care for him?”

Hiei yelled a bit too loudly, “Of course not, I can barely stand to look at him!”

The redhead’s voice was dripping with sarcasm as he said, “That makes sense, you don’t like Kuwabara so you show him so by kissing him.”

“You’re making something out of nothing.”

“You obviously feel something for him.” Kurama ignored the disgusted sounds Hiei was making. “What do you see in him that you don’t see in me?”

“Not a damn thing! Now stop you’re whining fox,” Hiei softened his voice, “You know that annoys me to no end.”

“How did you think I would react? Did you think I would be happy?”

“Calm yourself Kurama. Green is not your best color.”

Kurama responded in a terse voice, “I’m not jealous. I just want to know what interest you have in Kuwabara.”

“I’m not interested in him. I have all I can handle with you.”

The fox pulled the bedsheet up around the rest of his body and covered himself completely. “Perhaps we should reconsider our arrangement.”

Hiei sat down next to the young man and rested his hand on one of the covered legs. “The kiss meant nothing.”

The redhead shook his head in disagreement. “Until you know for certain we should stop our activities, even if they are most enjoyable.”

“If that’s what you want fox, but you’ll see you’re just overreacting.”

Kurama gave Hiei a sad smile. “Let’s hope so.”

After Hiei left Kurama thought about what happened and he instantly regretted sending Hiei off to confront Kuwabara. All though his relationship with Hiei started off as a purely sexual one, it recently started meaning more to the fox. He had hoped to make it a more serious relationship, but he was beginning to think it wouldn’t make it to that point. He felt that the fire apparition was pulling away from him. Kurama sensed it the moment Hiei started having his dream and talking in his sleep. The prospect of losing Hiei to Kuwabara filled Kurama with unease. He hoped that he was only reading too much into Hiei’s sleep ramblings; otherwise there was no telling how he would react.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The sun had just set and darkness covered the city. This was the time Hiei liked best. It especially suited his current needs, because he was heading to a place where he didn’t want to be seen. He leapt from rooftop to rooftop with ease and moved like a shadow, stealthily making his way to his destination. When he reached it he purposely knocked softly so that no one would hear him. Fifteen seconds passed without any sign of anyone answering the door. He was about to leave when the door was flung open.

Shizuru stood in doorway smoking a cigarette. She gave the three-eyed demon a slight smile and said, “Whatever it is you’re selling I don’t want it.”

Hiei frowned and fixed a perplexed look on her. “I’m not selling anything.”

She dismissed his comment with a wave of her hand. “That was an attempt at humor that obviously went over your head.”

The fire apparition’s voice became defensive, “There is nothing wrong with my height!”

“Yet another subtle attempt.” She took a deep drag from her cigarette and exhaled the smoke in his direction. “What do you want?”

“I need to speak with Kuwabara.”

“He’s not here.”

Hiei let out an exasperated sigh. “When will he be back?”

“I’m his sister, not his secretary.”

“Thanks for the help.”

“Anytime.”

“I was being sarcastic.” After saying that the demon then turned to leave.

Always one to have the last word Shizuru said, “So was I.” She then slammed the door on him.

Hiei left the apartment complex feeling a bit apprehensive. His previously steely reserve was starting to abandon him. He was positive he felt nothing for Kuwabara, but the thought of confronting him still bothered him.

Hiei halfway searched for the boy for over an hour with no luck. He could have easily found the boy if he wanted, but for some reason the longer he put it off the better he felt. He finally gave up and headed to the forest he called home. When he got there he noticed a figure sitting at the base of his tree. He snuck up on the huddled body and said, “We’ve got to stop meeting like this.”

A visibly startled Kuwabara snapped to attention. He pulled himself to his feet and told the demon, “I must have dozed off waiting for you.”

He leapt into his tree and settled himself on one of the branches. “What do you want Kuwabara?”

The human jammed his hands in his pocket and kicked a fallen tree limb. “Nothing…”

“You obviously want something.”

Kuwabara finally looked up at the fire apparition. “I just wanted to talk to you.”

The demon let out an impatient sigh. “I don’t have time for this. Go pour your heart out to somebody who cares.”

The young man kicked the tree with all his might, but he still failed to dislodge its occupant. “I’m sick of your mouth Hiei! I don’t know why I even came here, I’m leaving!” He turned to walk away, but his feet wouldn’t move.

Hiei smiled at the boy’s back. “You must like the way I talk to you.”

“The hell I do!”

“Then why do you always come back for more? I bet you like having me yell at you.”

The human was absolutely livid. He yelled at the top his lungs, “Come down here and say that to my face like a man!”

Hiei jumped out of the tree and gracefully landed on his feet. He stepped close to Kuwabara and stood less than six inches away from him. “I’m down here, now what are you going to do?”

Kuwabara tried to step away, but the speedy demon held him in place by his wrists. He yanked down hard on Kuwabara's wrists and pulled the boy's face within inches of his own. “To late to escape.”

Hiei moved his hands up to Kuwabara's neck and held the human in place while he kissed him. The apparition tried to push his tongue between the human’s lips. Instead of resisting Kuwabara opened his mouth allowing the demon’s roaming tongue to explore his mouth. Hiei ran his tongue over every part of the moist cavern, he was determined to taste every part of the boy’s mouth and commit it to memory. Kuwabara wrapped his arm around the apparition’s slim waist and pulled him closer. He found himself trying to push his tongue into the demon’s mouth. The two companions tongues clashed, each one trying to invade and conquer the other’s mouth. Apparently Kuwabara was the more skillful kisser. He easily slipped his tongue inside the demon’s mouth and seductively licked its warm insides. Kuwabara fell down to his knees and pulled the apparition down with him. He held the small demon against his chest and continued to kiss him passionately.

Hiei forcefully pulled his mouth away from Kuwabara's mouth. He gulped down several breaths of air before saying, “That was unexpected.”

Kuwabara smirked at the demon. “I didn’t hear you complaining.”

The apparition pulled himself to his feet and straightened his clothes. “You’re not complaining either.” He sat back next to his human companion. “You surprised me Kuwabara.”

“I surprised myself too.” The human scooted his hand closer until the tip of his fingers brushed against Hiei's hand. “Is there something going on here Hiei?”

“What do you mean?”

Kuwabara stared at the ground as he tried to find the right words. “Is there something special going on between you and me? I guess what I want to know is whether or not you like me.” He turned his head and stared at his demon companion. “Do you like me Hiei?”

Hiei shrugged his shoulders, “Maybe.”

The carrot topped youth sighed deeply, that wasn't what he wanted to hear. “Let me guess, you want to pretend that this kiss didn’t happen either.”

The demon covered up the big hand with his smaller one. He chose his words carefully. “I think it’s too soon to decide about that.”

Kuwabara interlaced his fingers with Hiei’s. The fire demon looked at the hand that was covering his and smiled faintly. It felt so right to him, sitting next to Kuwabara and holding his hand. Even though it felt right he was still confused. He pulled his hand away from the larger one that was enveloping it. He got back into his tree and looked down at his teammate. “I think you should go now.”

Kuwabara was startled, but he found himself agreeing with the demon’s words. He didn’t say ‘Good night’, he walked away without saying a word. Hiei wasn’t the only one that was confused.

Hiei watched as the boy vanished into the night. He wanted to go after him and bring him back, but he didn’t know how to. This was all so new to him. In all the time that he spent with Kurama he never felt anything like this before. So many foreign emotions were swirling through his mind as well as his heart. As he settled down for the night he thought, ‘I do feel something for him. I just don’t know what it is yet.’

cillaxox: I’m sorry, but they can’t get together just yet. It's pretty obvious where the title comes from now. I originally intended this to be the first chapter, but I decided to wait on it. I'm glad I did to, because I think this would have been too much too soon.

Once again my thanks goes out to all of you that left me reviews, especially repeat reviewers. Notice how I cleverly placed this at the end of the story ^_^
