General A/N: I don’t own the characters or show. I’m bad at editing, if I do it at all, so there will most likely be errors. I’m updating chapter by chapter so I’m not sure how often I’ll update, but I’ll try to make it soon. And lastly this story is told by Hiei’s POV.
I’m trying to take this story slower than my others and not have a lemon right away, so just bare with me.
Eternal Darkness
Part 3: Training
Ravenx
At the end of the party last night Yusuke suggested that we met for a little training in some woods that were far from ningens. Even though we have not had the reason to fight in a real battle in a long time we all agreed.
So now I am sitting up in a tree watching Yusuke and Kuwabara fighting. The spirit gun has been fired once and the spirit sword has been used several times, once ending in a tree on the ground.
I must admit that the two ningens have come a long way in their training since the first time I encountered either of them. Both becoming stronger and more in control of their abilities. Maybe still a little pig headed in strategy but still good in a battle.
As they once again ran at each other for some hand to hand combat, I look around the small clearing that has been designated our training area. On the opposite side from me are Jin and Touya. And I wasn’t the least surprised to see them not paying attention to the fight in front of them.
At the moment Jin is sitting up against a tree with his legs out in front of him. Touya is straddling his lap and, from what I can see, trying to see how far his tongue can go down Jin’s throat. Jin’s hands are busy kneading Touya’s behind. I actually imagine that that’s Kurama and me for a moment before I snap back to reality.
Speaking of the fox. I look below me to find him with his eyes on Yusuke and Kuwabara. He sits patiently as he waits for our fight. Before we started we decided the pairing of our little training session. I was more than a little surprised to discover that Jin and Touya wanted to fight each other. But Jin said something about making up after a fight being really great. At least that’s what I think he said.
I guess Kurama felt my eyes on him because he looks up and smiles at me. I give him a small nod before he motions toward the ground beside him. With great ease I leap down and sit cross-legged next him.
“They’re doing well, don’t you think?”
“They have improved a little.” I would never admit to anyone, even Kurama, that I think they are coming along better than I would have thought. To this he just smiles and goes back to watching the two in front of us.
I look as well to see Yusuke punching Kuwabara in the face with a hard right hook and following it up with a mean left. The orange haired baka falls to the ground cross-eyed with his tongue hanging out. I don’t think he’ll be getting up any time soon.
Yusuke raises his arms in the air as a sign of victory before going over to Kuwabara and seeing if he is alright. I just snort as he half picks him up and drags him over to the edge of the clearing. I feel a small, playful slap on my arm and turn to see Kurama watching me.
“Be nice, Hiei.” But his lips are pulling up at the edges as if he wishes to laugh.
“Are we fighting now?”
“Hmm. It doesn’t look like it,” he looks across the clearing, “I believe Jin and Touya want to fight next.”
I, too, look over and see that they have disentangled themselves from each other and are currently stretching as they approach the center of the clearing. I really wanted to fight, or do anything besides just sitting here watching.
I usually don’t mind just sitting around and watching my environment but today I want to do anything that involves moving and getting my mind off certain things which I have yet to decide about. I guess Kurama felt my disappointment because he took his eyes off the others and turned them on me.
“Would you like to go for a walk, Hiei? I’m getting tried of just sitting here.”
It’s amazing how often he knows exactly how I feel. I give a nod and we stand. We walk off into the dense woods as Jin causes a breeze to start in the clearing. The sun was bright when we were with the others but as we move off under the tall trees it becomes less bright, casting our path in a light shadow.
We walk for several minutes without saying anything before Kurama speaks.
“Are you not enjoying the training Hiei?”
“It’s fine.”
“I must say I was very astonished that Jin and Touya came with us. Especially with the way they have been acting since they got here. I’m shocked they stopped long enough to fight.”
“Me too.” I can’t help but chuckle at this. I can’t believe someone as innocent acting as Kurama would be watching those two. I mean I know when he was pure youko that he must have had many bartnartners, how couldn’t he looking the way he did. I’m actually shocked that he hasn’t been with anyone in this life, at least that I know of. I hope he hasn’t.
“It’s great that they have found someone. Them and the others. Don’t you think?” I could tell that he was looking at me from the corner of his eye.
“I guess.”
“I’m glad that you’ve taken to Yukina and Kuwabara together. I think they’re good for each other.”
“Hn.” As long as she’s happy I won’t kill the baka.
As we walked a little further we reached another clearing, this one smaller than the other.
“Would you like to train a little, Hiei?”
“Sure.”
We stepped into the clearing and faced each other. He took a seed from that beautiful hair and used his ki to change it into a rose and then his famous rose whip. I drew my katana from my belt and got into a fight stance.
We stared each other down for several minutes before I decided to charge at him. With my katana lowered to my side but ready to strike at any moment I came face to face with him and brought it up in a sharp, fast jerk. He dodged to the right and lashed out his whip but I moved fast and missed it but barely by an inch.
I jumped up into the air and leaped over him in a blur but before I landed he was there with his whip coming at me again. Sliding to the left I thrust my katana up at him but found him gone. I swear he has become almost as fast as me.
I feel him behind me and swirl around to be met by a thorny whip that cuts my cheek. I ignore it just to run around him, he stays still trying to sense where my next attack will come from. Flashing in from the right I see an open spot, not wanting to really hurt him, I lower my katana and punch him in the stomach.
I don’t punch hard enough to actually injure him and he just slumps for a second before he is on the defense. The fight goes on for another couple of minutes with us both attacking and defending but not landing another punch on each other. Finally standing in front of each other, we are both out of breath.
Silently we nod to each other and I put my katana back on my belt and he turns his whip back into a seed, places it into his hair. We walk toward each other, both our clothes have been turn slightly but no major damage is done to either of us.
I hear a small boom of in the distance and look over toward it, then I feel it. Soft, gentle fingers on my cheek that was cut. I had almost forgotten about it, guess the fox didn’t.
“Sorry about that Hiei.”
“We were fighting. It’s what happens.” Besides I know it will be healed by tomorrow, if not tonight by my vampire blood.
“I know but I didn’t mean to actually cut you. Does it hurt?” He leans down so that we are the same height. I hate being so short.
“I’m fine. I should be asking you the same thing.” I gesture toward his stomach and he unconsciously holds his other hand, the one not on my cheek, at his midsection.
“You didn’t hit as hard as you could of. The way you normal do in exercises.” He smiles while looking into my eyes before he turns his emeralds back to my cut. “It’s not deep, it’s already stopped bleeding. Good.” The last part was barely whispered as if he were saying it to himself.
He hesitates a moment before he leans forward then I feel those luscious lips on my cheek above the cut. I can’t believe it. He kissed me. So it wasn’t the kind of kiss I have been dreaming about for years, but it was a kiss.
I feel my cheeks go red as he leans back, I notice he has a coat of red over his face as well. He stands up quickly and fumbles with his hands as he looks from side to side as if not knowing what to do. Finally he smiles down at me and speaks.
“Why don’t we go and see what the others are up too?”
I nod and we start heading in the direction we came from. I’m still in shock. He kissed me. On the cheek but he still kissed me. I…I have no idea what to think. Could he possibly have some kind of feelings for me?
I’m still wondering as we reach the clearing and find Jin and Touya absent. Yusuke and Kuwabara are sitting next to a tree talking. They speak to us but I’m not sure what they say. Kurama answers them. My mind is still trying to make sense of all that has happened with in the last couple of minutes.
I can still feel his lips on my cheek. Okay, so there’s hope for us. Maybe. I can’t wait to find out. But now Yusuke is talking about food. I’ll wait until we’re alone again before I ask him about what happened. Until then I’ll let my mind linger on the feeling of his lips.
