Scene 28 ------------------------------------------- Shishi's Medical Room
* Hiei enters the darkened room and closes the door quietly. He leans back against it a moment to just look at Shishiwakamaru's well-kept body. As memories begin to flood into Hiei's mind again he raises a hand to touch his ward.
Hiei- Two.. years.. Two.. whole.. d---.. years, Shishi!
* He clamps his mouth shut. For the first time since he'd committed himself to taking care of his helpless mate he's raised his voice in this room. When he's regained his control he goes over to the low bed to look down at Shishi. He then leans to whisper his apology even though he knows he'll get no response.
Hiei- (Whispered) I'm sorry, Shishi. I didn't mean to yell at you.
* He gently eases some of the Banshee's clean, soft blue strands back behind one of his pointed ears.
Hiei- (Quietly) You were always so d--- vain about this hair.
* Hiei sighs and sits down on the edge of the bed, unable to look at Shishi's peaceful face any longer.
Hiei- (Quietly) Because of that b------ Satjiyu my heat cycle's all screwed up, Shish.. If you were still here.. I'd be.. all over you..
* Hiei swallows the lump that forms in his throat. Then growls quietly at his lack of emotional control due to the mentioned cycle.
Hiei- Instead, I.. I had to.. use..
* Hiei closes his eyes against the fresh wave of guilt that floods through him. It takes him a couple moments to steel himself against it.
Hiei- I know that I did no wrong in that.. according to our fire customs.. But..
* The koorime takes a deep breath and looks at Shishi again. He fleetingly wishes that the Banshee was awake to club him upside his head for making the senseless confession.
Hiei- I wish you were here to.. take a Banshee's revenge on me.
* He looks away again. After a few more silent moments Hiei takes a deep breath and changes the subject.
Hiei- Chiisai told me to tell you that he loves you, as always.. You would be so proud of our son, Banshee.. It's true what my brother Ryuji said.. Chi has a lot of both of us in him.. Your beauty.. My brains.. Our temper.
* Hiei's smirk is short-lived, though, as only silence greets his dry wit. He looks around the dimly-lit room, not taking notice that Shishi's body slowly begins to fade away behind him.
Hiei- D---, I hate this room, Shishi..
* Shishi's passing does trigger the special alarm that Koenma had Goerge rig up in his office. The Prince and the blue ogre both stop their work immediately to look up at the blinking, buzzing light. In the next instant, Teen Koenma is hurrying out of the giant double doors. Back in the medical room, Hiei has grown silent until he can take the quietness no longer.
Hiei- Well, I guess I'll just run the brush through your hair, then change your..
* Hiei stands and glances toward the bed as he reaches for the brush on the side table. His hand freezes, then slowly drops to his side. As he stands and just stares at the last remnants of the fading shell that was his mate's body Koenma quietly enters. When the form that had laid dormant for the past two years is finally completely gone Hiei looks up at the Prince blankly.
Koenma- (Whispered) The.. special buzzer went off..
* Hiei moves closer to the bed as he looks down at it again. The bed looks as if it had never been disturbed except for the empty kimono laying under the thin blanket. Koenma moves to the foot of the bed and bows respectfully.
Hiei- (Quietly) It's.. as if he was.. never..
Koenma- (Quietly) Hiei,..
* Hiei's empty eyes look up at the Teen. Koenma reaches out to touch him, but he suddenly blinks back out of reach.
Koenma- Hiei, you know the unit I have reserved for his..
* The koorime shakes his head and starts toward the door.
Hiei- Just send him on.
Koenma- I'm sure he'll not go until he gets to see you..
Hiei- You're the one in control now.
* Koenma starts to move toward Hiei, but the koorime just disappears. Koenma hurries out the left-open door, but Hiei is gone.
Koenma- D--- it, Hiei! I won't do that to him..!
* The Teen sighs. He knows it's no use to try to chase Hiei down. After a moment, he digs the communicator out of his pocket and programs a frequency in sadly.
