Chapter 28: Preparing for the Finals!!!

Hiei stood in the middle of a field, concentrating on his arm. He brought his arm back into the air and screamed as he slammed his glowing fist into the grown, creating a large crater.

Hiei stood back and growled.

“Shit. I must master the Kokuryuha by tomorrow!!”

Hiei glared at the much larger crater that was left by Toguro during his fight with Genkai earlier. It surpassed Hiei’s own crater, which looked like a baby compared to what Toguro created.

“Damn that monster!!” Hiei cursed, wishing he were strong enough to kill the monster that had made their lives miserable.

Kurama lays on the ground, while Karasu stands over him. Kurama growls before he snaps his finger, having the Karasu image disappear.

He stands up with a frown on his face.

‘It's no good...Karasu has better speed, spirit...I can't even simulate my victory. Damn...isn't there anything I can do...’ Kurama thinks.

At this moment, Kuwabara runs up to his friend.

“Hey, Kurama! I finally found somebody! Have you seen Urameshi or (YAFN)-chan?” Kuwabara asked.

“No.” Kurama said while brushing him self off.

“Where the hell is he? The old lady went out somewhere, too, fretting about an important errand.” Kuwabara sighed, getting a bit aggravated that something was going on and he didn’t have a clue as to what that ‘something’ was.

Kurama’s eyes widen at the memory of what had happened earlier that day with a meeting with Karasu.

‘~One of you will die today...you will know soon. ~’

Kuwabara doesn’t notice the look that was on Kurama’s face at that moment.

“Sheesh! And even (YAFN)-chan disappeared not too long after Urameshi…” Kuwabara said.

Kurama ignored what Kuwabara had said, still in shock at what could have happened to the old master and what Karasu’s words meant.

“It can't be...” Kurama mumbled in disbelief.

A sound of rustling of leaves came from the woods. Kurama took a defensive stance and was alert, as was Kuwabara, who turned completely to the direction of the noise.

“Who's there?” Kurama asked.

A man came out of the woods that didn’t look familiar.

“I've been looking for you two.” said a very familiar voice.

Kuwabara narrowed his eyes at the man, not sure if he knew him.

“Who are you?” Kuwabara asked.

“I am Beautiful Martial Artist Suzuki.” said Suzuki.

Both Kurama and Kuwabara are stunned at this, not recognizing the clown fighter that you had beaten earlier.

“Suzuki!?” they both said in shock.

Kuwabara looked a bit confused, only meeting the ‘old man’ version of Suzuki and hearing about what happened from you on the way back to the hotel.

Kurama narrowed his eyes, never relaxing his defensive state.

“What a surprise!” Kurama muttered under his breath.

“Heh...actually, I've shamed that name now. Your team was much stronger. Now I'm just a clown.” smiled Suzuki.

‘He was a buffoon from the beginning.’ Kurama thinks.

“What do you want?” Kurama asked with such grace and charm that it was completely opposite to what he had just thought.

“I brought you something.” Suzuki said, taking out a small jar and a sword hilt.

He handed the jar to Kurama, who cautiously took it and handed the sword hilt to Kuwabara, who took it only after seeing Kurama took the jar. He figured that if Kurama was willing to trust the guy, he would.

“What’s this…?” both boys asked while studying the items they were given.

“"Past Life Seeds" and the "Sword of Testing."” Suzuki said.

“"Past Life Seeds" are from a very new plant that was found in the Makai recently.
Uraurashima used it as a fog, but if you drink it in liquid form, you can be Youko longer.” Suzuki said while looking at Kurama.

Kurama studied the jar closer as he spoke, interested in what he said.

“The "Sword of Testing" absorbs the spirit of the one who wields it. I made it because of this afternoon; it's a spirit sword. Its appearance depends on the nature of the one who holds it.” Suzuki said while talking to Kuwabara.

Kuwabara looked cautiously at the hilt and gave it a critical look as well.

“I have to warn you, though: both items are still in the experimental stage. I don't know if there will be side effects or not. It's up to you whether you decide to use them or not.” Suzuki said before turning to leave.

“So long…”

“Why are you doing this?” Kurama asked with narrow eyes.

He couldn’t believe one as arrogant as Suzuki would willingly help the team who beat his own team; let alone had the girl who defeated him with ease.

Suzuki stopped and sighed, not facing the two suspicious teens.

“I've fought against Toguro before. My name then was Strong Fighter Tanaka. After seeing Toguro's 30%, I was really scared and begged for my life...and he said, "I don't even want to kill someone so spineless." I trained myself after that, but you beat me. Toguro believes strength is everything. I'm not asking you to avenge me; I just want to believe that there is someone stronger than Toguro.” Suzuki said before leaving the two to think about what he had said.

Sitting in front of a cave was Yusuke and you. After you had felt the huge amount of energy; you decided to help comfort Yusuke. After all, he was like a brother to you and if anything, you would be there when he needed a friend, even a sister the most.

You sighed remembering how you had found him.

(Flash back)

You slowly walked into the clearing and found Yusuke staring out into space; slumped against a tree.

You looked around at the battlefield and saw Genkai’s body not to far, from where you stood. You couldn’t help but cover your mouth at seeing the old woman lying dead on the ground. A few tears came to your eyes at the sight, but you shut your eyes close and shook your head.

‘I must not cry! I have to be strong…for Yusuke…’ you thought.

You slowly opened your eyes and took in a deep breath before slowly approaching the distant Yusuke.

You stop a few feet before him, not too sure if you should sit next to him or not. You were quiet, not knowing what to say or do for that matter; however, Yusuke was the one to break the silence.

“They used to be friends…how could he have betrayed her…how could he betray his friends…?” Yusuke said, not really asking anyone.

You knelt in front of Yusuke and looked at his tear filled face.

“They fought together….side by side and he screws her and their friendship by killing her….he will pay for this…” Yusuke said his eyes clouded over with darkness.

Your eyes widen at the dark cloud that seemed to hover over him. Without thinking you fall into him, causing him to snap out of whatever evil had held him before.

“(YAFN)-chan?” he asked in shocked.

“Yusuke…it’s not your fault…I know you didn’t say it was but….that look…it scared me…please don’t look like that again? Please…” you said, letting your tears fall.

You mentally cursed your self for giving into crying.

‘Damn it (YAFN)-chan, stop crying! This is all Yusuke needs with his nerves already shot!’ you screamed at your self.

You suddenly felt your self be brought into a tight embrace.

“I’m sorry (YAFN)-chan…but…if I came a few minutes before…if I wasn’t asleep…if I wasn’t just so damn tired from absorbing her strength…if…if I didn’t take her energy…maybe…maybe he wouldn’t have been able to kill her….maybe she would have beaten him…” Yusuke said, hugging you tightly to his chest.

You clung to him, not wanting him to fall into depression, not wanting to see him lose himself in self-pity and regret.

“Don’t say that Yusuke! It’s not your fault! I already told you that! There was nothing you could do! It was just her time…you can’t stop that…” you said, burying your head into his chest, and finally controlling your crying to small wet streams.

Yusuke sighed and rested his head on top of yours.

“…but I still think I could have at least stopped him…” Yusuke croaked.

“Yusuke, you will stop him, but not today…you weren’t ready to fight him…not yet…you will beat him, I promise you that…” you said, now sitting in his lap.

The two of you stayed like that for what seemed like hours, but must have only been minutes. Yusuke moved you a bit until he was able to stand and still hold you.

You looked up at him, a bit confused. He gave you a weak smile.

“Let’s go somewhere else sis…” he said.

You nodded and the two of you; you in his arms, go into the woods, not looking back at the destruction that was behind the two of you.

(End Flash Back)

You sighed, now sitting next to Yusuke and just looking at the cave. Yusuke had put you down and had been staring at the cave for a while now.

You felt someone behind you and turned.

“...Koenma.” Yusuke said, not turning around to see, which made you look at Yusuke a bit surprised.

“Uh...hi...well...you knew?” Koenma asked a bit confused at how Yusuke was able to sense him now when he couldn’t all the other times he had snuck up on the teen.

“I don't feel like playing around now.” Yusuke sighed; not wanting to tell Koenma how he knew the prince of spirit world was behind him.

“Well...Botan is heartbroken after doing her job, and stayed up all night. Do you know why I didn't tell you earlier about Genkai's death?” Koenma asked.

“I should have saved her...” Yusuke said, his eyes clouding over with depression once again.

You sighed and were about to say something when Koenma beat you to it.

“You are such an idiot!” Koenma shouted.

Yusuke was up in an instant and grabbed Koenma by the collar.

“Who are you calling an idiot!?!” Yusuke growled.

“You, you blockhead! Even if you had gotten there earlier, could you have stopped them? They were completely committed to the fight; you would only have affected their fighting spirit.” Koenma snapped back.

Yusuke didn’t let his hold on Koenma’s collar go, but was now sweat dropping.

You shook your head.

“I’ve been trying to tell him that this whole time…” you said.

Koenma looked at you and blinked. He had heard about you, even seen you from the VIP section, but he actually haven’t met you until now.

“You must me (YAFN)-chan. I’ve heard a lot about you.” Koenma said, feeling a bit uncomfortable in Yusuke’s death grip.

“Likewise.” You said, looking a bit worried at Yusuke, who had a strange look on his face.

Koenma noticed it as well.

“Hm? What is it? And let go of me, would you?” Koenma said, getting a bit aggravated.

Yusuke lets him go and turns around, plopping down onto the ground, with his back to Koenma.

You look at Yusuke with a sad look, not knowing how to help him.

Koenma sighs.

“My, my...oh, that's right! I have a message for you from heaven.” Koenma said.

Yusuke freezes and his ear seemed to enlarge and start to twitch; waiting to hear what Koenma had to say.

Koenma cleared his throat and imitated Genkai’s voice.

“"You were my worst student, and I don't wanna see you for awhile."” Koenma said.

Yusuke falls over on to his head, which causes you to giggle at his reaction.

“Just like Genkai to be blunt and to the point.” You said with a bit of a sigh.

“And one more thing, "Win!" That's it.” Koenma said.

Yusuke sat up and looked off to the cave with a thoughtful look on his face.

“That old lady...”

Yusuke suddenly jumped to his feet, a huge smile on his face. He looks into the sky and aims his finger skyward; tears spilling from his eyes still as he smiled up towards the heavens.

Koenma raises an eyebrow at this.

“Yusuke?” Koenma asked.

You smile; glad to see that Genkai words seemed to get some of the old Yusuke back.

‘He needed to hear it from her more then anyone else…’ you think.

“This is my answer. I'm sending it directly to the Reikai!” Yusuke said with a grin.

Koenma’s eyes widened at this.

“Oh!”

Yusuke’s powered up hi finger and let loose a MASSIVE ki blast into the sky.

“TAKE THIS, YOU OLD HAG---!!!” Yusuke shouted as he fired off the powerful weapon.

All over the island, the blast could be seen.

Kuwabara and Kurama looked up at the sky in complete shock, still standing in the field.

“What the…?!” they both shouted in shock.

At the crater, Hiei looked up at the blast with wide eyes.

“Holy shit!!” he shouted at how powerful that spirit gun was.

Toguro looked to where he sensed that massive power and saw the blast shooting into the sky.

“…Urameshi!!” smirked Toguro.

Suzuki, who was walking back to the hospital looked up at the blast.

“W...wow!!! That power...I can't believe it! THAT came from Urameshi Yusuke!!!?” he shouted in disbelief.

Yusuke stood there for a moment in the same position before lowering his hands and falling backwards on to the ground.

“Did the message arrive?” Yusuke asked with a serious look, just looking at the blast he just fired as it slowly vanished from view.

Koenma smiled.

“I'm sure it did...”

You watched the blast vanished as well; you were shaking a bit from the amount of energy you felt from that attack.

“Damn Yusuke that was sweet!!” You said, looking at him from your spot on the ground that you still sat.

Yusuke gave you a grin, now sitting Indian style with his hands in his lap.

A clearing of a throat caused the two of you to look at Koenma.

“I wanted to speak with you, (YAFN)-chan if you don’t mind.” Koenma said, looking seriously at you.

You looked at him, not too sure why he would want to talk to you.

“Yes Koenma?” you asked.

“Alone.”

Yusuke cocked his head to the side.

“Can’t you talk to her here?” he asked.

“It has something to do with where she’s from.” Koenma said, knowing you would understand.

Your eyes widen as a thought came to mind.

‘That’s right, Botan told him right before the Yukina mission…” You thought, a sad look crossing your face.

“If you could follow me.” Koenma said.

You nod and stand up, willing to listen to what Koenma had to say about you being there; hoping it wasn’t anything along the lines of you leaving.

‘He probably wants to know which dimension I’m from and how I got here in the first place.’ You think, brushing your self off.

Yusuke got a bit worried and was on his feet in a second.

“Hey! Whatever you can say, you can say in front of me!! She already told me a long time ago that she’s from a different dimension.” Yusuke shouted, now standing in front of you.

“What?!” Koenma said with wide eyes.

It wasn’t good that Yusuke knew something like this; the less people that knew the better. Koenma was afraid that both their world as well as your own would be greatly affected by you being here.

Koenma sighed and massaged his head.

“I still need to talk to (YAFN)-chan alone. There are a few questions I need to ask her, so…”

He starts to walk towards you, reaching his hand to take yours and take you off to a more secluded area.

However, Yusuke not liking anything that was going on lately growled and slapped Koenma’s hand away from you as he stood in front of you.

“You’re not taking her anywhere! There’s no point to talk to her in a secret meeting when you can talk to her here and now!” growled Yusuke.

Both you and Koenma sighed, Koenma starting to massage his head a bit.

“Alright…only because you’re giving me a migraine… (YAFN)-chan after I learned you were from a different dimension I have been working on a way to send you home. However, so far I haven’t been able to figure out which portal is the correct one. I tried not confronting you and made records of your spirit energy to try and locate your dimension. But so far, I’ve had no luck. I need to ask you a few questions regarding your dimension so I can find the right portal and send you back as soon as possible.” Koenma said.

You looked at Koenma with a stunned look. You didn’t want to go home so soon. You thought that Botan never came to take you to see Koenma or even Koenma not coming to you; before now, meant that they didn’t care that you were here. However, apparently that wasn’t the case. You could feel tears swelling up in your eyes at the news. You didn’t want to leave, especially when they needed you the most! You couldn’t just abandon them!

“What the hell is this crap?!” Yusuke shouted before falling silent; stunned.

Koenma looked seriously at Yusuke and raised a hand.

“I have more to say…”

“I don’t give a flying fuck! Tell me what the hell is going on here and what you mean (YAFN)’s gotta leave asap?!” Yusuke shouted.

“Yusuke if you could let me…”

“Not until someone answers my question!!” Yusuke growled.

“Yusuke…”

Yusuke stops his yelling and turns to look at you. You had tears that threaten to fall and avoided eye contact with him as he looked at you.

“I really shouldn’t be here. You knew that there could be consequences, and I knew something like this could happen. I mean, I already probably screwed everything up, so it’s probably best that I leave but…” you sniffed, trying hard not to cry, but you found that your attitude had gone through a dramatic change while being in the YYH world.

You looked at Koenma with those tear filled eyes.

“But can’t it wait until after the tournament? I can’t leave yet. Not until I help the guys win this tournament. I can’t abandon them now, not at this time.” You said with pleading eyes.

Koenma sighed, not sure if that would be a good idea. His father didn’t know about you and if he found out that you were here and that Koenma knew and hadn’t sent you back by now; then he would be in big trouble.

Yusuke looked at you. He saw how upset you were and it pained him to see you like that. He shocked you when he took you into his arms and hugged you.

“I won’t let you go, unless you want to go back home. I will fight to keep you here as long as you can stay. I will protect you…I love you (YAFN)…you’re the little sister I never had and never knew I wanted until I met you…and I won’t let you go…” Yusuke said, hugging you closer.

You held on to him, burring your face into his chest, and held back more tears that wanted to come.

“But I can’t stay here…that’s the problem, Yusuke…I’m going to screw things up if I stay here any longer…but I can’t just leave you right in the middle of where you guys need me most. So, I should stay only until the tournament is over.” you said.

“Fuck the world! I don’t give a flying cow shit if you screwed up this dimension or not. It would be more screwed up if you were to leave, if you were to leave me and the rest of the guys. That would be screwing up with the universe if you ask me.” Yusuke said, resting his head on top of yours.

You sniffed. You were speechless at the words Yusuke had just spoken.

Koenma cleared his throat, which caused Yusuke to growl and pick you up, holding you to his chest in a protective manner, you still burring your head in his chest.

“Can I finish?” Koenma said.

“I don’t want to hear anything else you gotta say diaper breath!” Yusuke growled.

“I won’t let you take her away…I…I can’t take another person I care for to go…don’t take one of the few things I can call my own!” Yusuke growled.

((A/n: I used ‘my own’ because in the anime and manga and in the Japanese version, Yusuke calls all of his loved ones ‘his own.’ Which means he thinks of them as his and his to love and protect ^^ possessive ain’t he?))

“Are you done?” Koenma asked.

“Yeah.” Yusuke snorted, glaring at Koenma.

“Good because if you let me finish I would have said that even though (YAFN)-chan should leave immediately, she can’t. We don’t know what dimension she came from or unless you forgot that fact already. I need to know the information from her so I can get started working on finding her dimension. However, even with the information she gives me it could take days, months or even years to locate the right portal to send her back home.” Koenma said.

However, what he said was only half the truth. Knowing the information that you would have to give him would actually have him be able to locate your portal in a matter of hours. His heart had softened after seeing Yusuke’s reaction. Koenma couldn’t take seeing Yusuke in more pain then he already was, he had just lost his teacher and now the same day he had lost Genkai; he would have to loose his adopted sister? No, Koenma wasn’t cruel. He may have been tough but he wouldn’t hurt those that he cared for.

Yes, Koenma carried for Yusuke. He was like family to him, even if he was annoying and arrogant and gave him migraines all the time. Yusuke was still his spirit detective who he had chosen to keep the human world safe from any kind of threat dealing with the supernatural kind. He figured that his dad wouldn’t find out for a long time, if Koenma played his cards right that is. Koenma would have to keep a file on you and even make up a past so his dad wouldn’t get suspicious.

Yusuke sweat dropped at this and you turned your head towards Koenma with a happy and hopeful smile on your lips.

“So…I can stay?” you ask.

Koenma nodded.

“Until we can find a way to send you home; which doesn’t seem like that will happen for a long while.”

Yusuke sighed in relief and hugged you; happy that he didn’t lose another one he loved; another person who kept him going.

‘I still have (YAFN) and Kuwabara…’ Yusuke thinks, holding you tighter.

“Well, I’m done. So I’ll just leave the two of you alone.” Koenma said.

The two of you both glare at the prince, who had a pervert grin on his face.

“IT’S NOT LIKE THAT!!” both you and Yusuke shout.

Koenma laughs and walks away.

The two of you glare after the retreating form of Koenma.

“Well…” Yusuke started.

“Yeah?” you ask, looking at Yusuke.

“When we get back to the hotel you should tell me a bit more about your dimension…” Yusuke said. “I mean, you’re my lil sis and I should know a little bit more about you, meaning your life before you came here.” Yusuke smiled.

You smiled at him before nodding.

It would be kind of nice to share some info with someone and not feel like such a liar all the time. However, you also knew that Yusuke was trying to ignore the pain that he had in his heart at loosing the woman who was like a grandmother to him, not just his mentor. You figured telling him a little bit about yourself and your dimension would make Yusuke forget about those demons that were deep inside him from tormenting him; or you hoped so anyway.

Somewhere on the island in the middle of a field sat Kuwabara. He didn’t mind the fact that it was dark out now and that he had been staring at the sword that lay in his hand for the past several hours.

He thought about what Suzuki had told him.

(Flash back)

‘Youki and reiki are as unique from person to person as fingerprints and voiceprints. When you put your energy into the "Sword of Testing," it will become attuned only to you. However, I don’t know what will happen to you as a side effect.’

(End Flash back)

Kuwabara looked at the sword harder before taking in a deep breath.

“I've got to do it.” He said aloud, while standing up; taking the hilt with him.

He holds the hilt out in front of him and concentrates on the hilt.

‘...I must think of it as part of my body.’ Kuwabara thinks.

He starts to make his spirit sword and concentrates to focus his energy into the hilt instead of his hands. The hilt begins to glow as well as his hands that are holding it.

“Un...ghhh...”

Kuwabara closes his eyes, concentrating harder.

‘It's absorbing my energy!!’ Kuwabara thinks as he feels his energy being sucked into the hilt.

His eyes snap open at the feeling and looks at the huge sword that is in front of him.

“!?...shit...wha--...this sword is MINE!!!”

Kuwabara races back to the hotel and runs through the hallways, his hilt in his hand as he ran to the room he shared with the rest of the team.

“URAMESHI-----!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU, URAMESHI? It's awesome!
I, the great Kuwabara, have a new technique!! Hey, you in there?” Kuwabara shouted, as he knocked on the door to Yusuke’s room.

Kuwabara opened the door and stopped short. Standing in the middle of the room is Yusuke, however that wasn’t what caused him to stop. Kuwabara could not only sense, but could literally see his aura radiating intensely off Yusuke’s body.

You were sitting on Yusuke’s bed; eyes closed and seemed to be meditating; your body also seeming to glow a bit.

Yusuke noticed Kuwabara’s presence and turned to him.

“Hey, what's up?” he asked, his voice sounding serious and not like him self.

You look up and give Kuwabara a smile.

“Hey, haven’t seen you for a while, huh?”

“Ummm…hi!! Yeah hahaha” Kuwabara said, scratching the back of his head.

“I was just doing stuff…”

Kuwabara stopped his laughing and gave the two of you a good look.

‘Shit! So much energy! That's why he could shoot such a powerful reigun. And (YAFN)-chan seems…different…her aura feels different…’ Kuwabara thinks.

He then smiled and tried to hide what he was thinking with another laugh.

“You surprised me! But everyone has a unique spirit, and now I have a unique spirit sword, my reiken!!” Kuwabara said, showing Yusuke and you his new sword hilt.

“Cool!” you said, a smile coming to your lips, though you stay on Yusuke’s bed, not wanting to get up; since you were too tired from what happened earlier to do so.

Yusuke looked questionably at Kuwabara, thinking he was acting a bit weird.

Hiei comes into the room, his arm looking more then a little singed.

“But you're the same noisy idiot as always.” Hiei remarked, as he goes to the wall and leans up against it, folding his arms a cross his chest.

Kuwabara glares at him and growls.

“Hiei?” Yusuke asked, looking questionably at his arm.

Your eyes widen at the damage he had caused him self.

“Ewww....What happened to your right arm?” Kuwabara asked a look that was across between disgust and a bit of concern.

“I overdid my practicing a bit.” Hiei said like it was no big deal.

“Bwahahahaha!!” Kuwabara laughed, not wanting to think what Hiei had ‘overdid’ in his practice.

He stopped laughing and had a thoughtful look on his face again.

“...Well, if Kurama doesn't get here soon...” Kuwabara started.

“I've been here for awhile.” Kurama said, moving from his spot next to the door.

Kuwabara jumped and looked over at his red headed companion.

‘I never even felt his presence...’ Kuwabara thought, worrying a bit.

“Great! Everybody's here!” Kuwabara said clasping his hands together and trying to play off his error with ignoring the subject.

You got off the bed and walked up to him.

“Are you ok? You seem a bit…I don’t know…off…” you said, giving him a serious look.

Yusuke walks up next to you and seems to notice what you did.

“Yeah, (YAFN)-chan’s right. You don’t seem like your self. Did something happen?” Yusuke asked.

Kuwabara quickly laughed and scratched the back of his head, trying to hide his concern for his powers that were acting a bit weird.

“You guys are just paranoid! I’m fine! I’m just havin’ an off day that’s all.” Kuwabara said.

“Like you do everyday?” Hiei said with a small snicker.

Kuwabara growls and turns to Hiei, flexing his muscles at the guy that was a constant thorn in his side.

“You wanna piece of me, shrimp?!” Kuwabara growled.

“Relax man.” Yusuke said.

He then looked away, with a serious look.

“I’m going to hit the sack…” Yusuke said, walking to his bed.

Kurama nodded in understanding.

“Yes, we will need all the rest we can gain before our fights tomorrow.” Kurama said.

“Hn.” Hiei said, starting to walk out of the room.

“Hiei, do you want me to help you with that? I mean, I’ve gotten better with my healing technique and it might help you for tomorrow.” You said, looking a bit worried at Hiei’s arm.

‘It looks worse then how they showed it in the show…’ you think.

Hiei stopped in the doorway and seemed to think about it for a moment.

“Hn. Fine.” He said, continuing to leave the room.

Kuwabara glared at Hiei’s back, not liking how rude he was to your offer to help.

“Jerk…” he mumbles.

You smile at Kuwabara.

“I’ll be going to bed soon too…goodnight guys!” you said, following Hiei out of the room.

Kuwabara sighed.

He looked back down at the sword hilt in his hand and clenched it.

‘I’m gonna win my fight tomorrow so (YAFN)-chan can’t fight those monsters…she’s strong and she can handle her self…but…I got a bad feeling about those guys…they don’t fight fair…’ he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath before he opened his eyes again and smiled.

“Well goodnight guys!” he said, walking to his bed and getting in it.

He closed his eyes, but he; like everyone else, couldn’t really sleep that night.

The stadium was packed with cheering demons and waving spectators who were waiting for the combatants to emerge from the doors at both sides of the arena. Some held banners that said things like ‘Kill all!’ and “Go Team Toguro!” One even said “Yoshihiro pay your debts” The demons were ready for the match of the century and couldn’t wait anymore.

((A/N: HAHAHAHAHAA in the manga Yoshihiro, the author, put ‘Yoshihiro pay your debts’ on one of the banners…I had to leave it in ^^; sorry, so he gets the credit and disclaimer on it because he’s a genius!! ^^))

Finally, you and the rest of the guys walk into the arena, ready to face your biggest challenge yet.

“Yusuke, about Master Genkai...who will be the fifth member of our team?” Kurama whispered to Yusuke, not wanting you to hear.

Even though he had no more doubts about your strength, he and the rest of the team didn’t want you to fight this match. They all felt that you wouldn’t be able to hold your ground against these monsters that were once human.

“Don't worry about it; it's already taken care of.” Yusuke whispered back.

You stood off to the side, a bit in a daze at how loud the crow in the stadium sounded. You knew you fought in front of an audience, but this one seemed to be bigger then when you fought the other fights; which was making you extra nervous.

“You mean the old lady won't be here? Did she use up too much energy when she helped those three guys?” Kuwabara asked, whispering as well; not wanting you to hear him.

He was really hoping Genkai would be there to fight in your place.

“My, my, what a complete idiot.” Hiei snorted, not really believing Kuwabara didn’t notice Genkai’s spirit energy had vanished.

“Wha--!? You bastard!!” Kuwabara shouted not understanding why Hiei would just insult him like that with out real reason to.

“Don’t make me have to separate you two!” you said, trying to lighten the mood; feeling the tension and feeling the pressure catch up to you now.

‘Shit…I’ve never been more terrified in my entire life…’ you think, trying to calm your self down.

Hiei just looked at you and remembered the little talk you and he had the night before while healing his arm.

(Flash Back)

Hiei watched as you kneeled next to where he sat and gently took his arm into your hands. He felt a tingly sensation as you focused your aura on his arm, your eyes closed in concentration.

The two of you were silent for a few moments.

“Hiei…” you said with your eyes still closed and continuing to heal his arm.

“…you…you’ve been acting weird around me. Is there something you want to tell me?” You asked.

Ever since the tournament started, you had this feeling that Hiei knew something about you, but you didn’t know what.

He looked at you, not sure what you were talking about for a moment before a thought occurred to him.

“Yes. I know you aren’t from this dimension. My Jagan read your mind the day we met.” Hiei said.

Your eyes snapped open. You weren’t expecting that.

“What…?” you said.

You didn’t understanding why he read your mind in the first place.

“You intrigued me, for a human that is saying something.” Hiei said.

You blink at him before you smile.

“That means a lot coming from you…” you said before turning back to healing his arm.

You stopped to think about what he said more. However, you remembered how close he was to Kurama.

“Did…did you tell Kurama?” you asked.

Hiei seemed to hesitate for a moment before grunting.

“Yes.”

You sweat dropped, but didn’t stop healing Hiei’s injury.

“So he knows too.” You said more so as a statement.

Hiei nodded.

“He said he wanted to let you tell him, I just think he’s afraid of your wrath.” Hiei snorted, however he had a smirk of amusement at the idea you beating up Kurama.

You chuckled and nodded, before just finishing up healing Hiei. You sighed. You were about to get up when Hiei grabbed your arm. You blinked at him.

“You won’t die tomorrow.” He said, knowing the fear you had of dying in this dimension.

You stiffen at his words.

“Always the blunt one…” you mumble.

“The detective is too fond of you to let you, as is that stupid fox and the oaf. They care too much for you to let you die, so don’t worry over things that are not worth concern over.” He said before letting go of your arm.

You nod, a bit sad he didn’t include himself in that group, but you weren’t going to hold your breath. You knew, in the back of your mind, that in his own little way he was telling you that he had your back as well.

“Thanks.” You said.

He looks at you with a raised eyebrow.

“Just….thanks…” you said before you stand and go to Kuwabara’s and your bed

Hiei sat there, watching you leave. Once you were gone, he looked at his arm and flexed it. A smirk came to his lips at how well Yukina had taught you, before it disappeared, just as he did.

(End Flash Back)

Hiei closed his eyes and smirked.

‘It seems she’ll have another person watching her back as well…’

“Ladies and Gentlemen! Presenting...the Urameshi Team!!” Juri announces.

You and the guys step into the arena and were greeted by shouting demons.

“There they are! Die, die, die, die!! Kill the humans!!! Our money is on your deaths!” the crowd shouted.

Juri turned towards the other door and pointed to it.

“Now...the Toguro Team!!”

The crowd went even wilder as the infamous team stepped out into the arena.

“Yaaaaayyyy!! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Be sure to strike to kill!!”

A staring contest came into play as the two teams stood across from each other in the arena.

It was at this time the crowd noticed something amidst for both teams.

“What? There are five there but isn’t that girl the ulternate? Why isn’t Genkai with Team Urameshi?!”

“Everyone, if you'll quiet down, please...” Juri said.

She took out a rulebook from her pocket and flipped through it until she got to the page she was looking for.

“Now, according to the rules, the final will consist of one-on-one battles. There will be five matches, and the team that wins three is the victor! Even though both Genkai and Urameshi-chan were asked to fight, only one of them would have been able to be used in this fight.” Juri said, closing the book.

You heard the guys on your team sigh in relief and looked at them with a raised eyebrow.

“Hey! Where the hell is our fifth member? Will it be Chuu or Jin?” Kuwabara asked, not understanding why Genkai wasn’t there.

He ignored what was really said in the rules and only heard that you couldn’t fight unless the other fifth member came. He was worried that whoever that fifth member was didn’t come soon, and then Team Toguro would win by default.

Yusuke looked around a bit annoyed.

“Damn. That idiot---I wonder if he ran away.” Yusuke mumbled.

“There were accidents earlier, when both teams had fights that we didn’t see. But the fifth members must appear soon. We can hardly wait!” Koto said, who just got information about what had happened earlier.

“Why can’t I go in her place then?” you ask, talking to Juri.

She looks at Koto.

Koto looked back at the rules and found that you could fight since Genkai was dead.

“She should be aloud to fight according to the rules.” Koto said.

Juri blinked and seemed to understand.

“Oh ok, well then we are waiting for Team Toguro’s fifth then!” Juri said.

“What the Hell do you think you’re doing?!” Yusuke and Kuwabara both shouted at you.

You looked at them.

“If you don’t remember I was invited too. Besides, the guy they have as a fifth can’t be that bad, right?” You said.

The four boys look amongst themselves, feeling a bit anxious and secretly praying that you were right.

Toguro snickered.

“Shall I summon him now?” he said, before snapping his fingers.

Everyone held their breath as a figure stood in the arena doors that seemed to automatically open at Toguro’s request.

The figure walked forward until he was in full view, revealing to be Sakyou!!

The crowd looked at the fifth member in shock.

“Huh? Isn't that the Toguro Team Owner? Is he able to fight?”

Sakyou looked up at the audience with a serious look.

“Fight? I won't need to fight. I'm just here to see the death of the other team. With my captain, there is zero possibility of us losing.” He said.

“Ahhh! An early declaration of victory!!” Juri said.

“Pay no attention to him.” Said Koenma, who pops up behind Kuwabara

Kuwabara jumps and turns to see the teenage version of Koenma standing behind him.

“Koenma?!” he shouted, a bit taken back by Yusuke’s choice for a fifth fighter.

“You’re too late! (YAFN)-chan was already declared as the fifth member! You moron!!” Yusuke shouted.

He was a bit pissed off at Koenma for being late. If he were on time, then you probably wouldn’t have to fight in the finals at all.

“Don’t worry, I will take over if anything happens.” He whispered to Yusuke, trying to calm him down.

“I can't really do anything here in the Reikai, but I CAN sit in as a substitute. Which mean I won’t be needed. Though, if it does turn out that I have to fight…” Koenma said.

He removes the cap he was wearing and reveals a jetpack on his back.

“I’m prepared to run away!!” he said, laughing.

“And leave (YAFN)-chan to fight?!” Yusuke growled, ready to punch Koenma.

“No! Of course not!!” said a nervous Koenma, who was sweating a bit.

“Grrrr... What a guy!” Kuwabara growled.

“It was hopeless from the beginning.” Hiei mumbled.

“I can feel more power coming from that girl then from that new guy. He’s just there for the sake of the rules, it looks like.” Karasu said.

“Huh...great, he's seen through me.” Koenma said, sighing.

“Don't be so uppity.” Kuwabara mumbles, sending glares at Koenma.

You stand there, quiet. You were nervous and just didn’t feel like talking now because of it.

“Now, let's begin!!” Juri said.

Kurama and Karasu eye each other.

Karasu points his finger to his temple.

“Bang!”

Kurama feels something snap inside of him at this.

“I'm going.” He said.

“The first match will be Kurama versus Karasu!!” Juri announces.

Kuwabara leans next to Kurama.

“Hey, Kurama, you gonna use that stuff Suzuki gave you?” he whispered.

“Yeah. I drank some about two minutes ago.” Kurama answered, not once looking away from his prey.

“Eh?” Kuwabara said curious to why and when Kurama used it already.

“I tested it a few times, and found out that it takes a few minutes for the transformation.” Kurama said.

Kuwabara looked at him in shock.

“You mean you've already tried it!?”

“It would be too reckless to use it directly without knowing its true effectiveness. Nevertheless, Suzuki was right; it will change me into Youko form for about fifteen minutes. That will be long enough for me to defeat Karasu.” Kurama said.

“Come here, both of you!!” Juri shouts.

He started making his way towards the ring.

“Kurama.” You said.

He stopped dead in his tracks, not turning to look at you, but you knew he was listening.

“Be careful…I know you already know that he’s tougher then he looks…but…still be extra cautious…” you said, looking at him.

He nodded.

“I will (YAFN)-chan.” he said before continuing to enter the ring.

“Karasu!! Kill him!!!” the crowd shouted as the two started making their way to the ring.

“The first battle of the final round is about to begin, and everyone is cheering for Karasu of the Toguro Team!!” Koto shouts.

Way back in the crowd, sat the girls; the only ones cheering for Team Urameshi.

“What the hell are you talking about!? We're cheering for the Urameshi Team! Go for it, Kurama!!” Atsuko shouted, punching the air.

Yukina looks around a bit nervously, not liking the looks they were receiving from the demons around them.

“Guys, should we do this? It is rather dangerous to be here during the Finals, isn't it?” Yukina asked.

“Sure, sure. We ain't gonna run 'cause of a little danger.” Atsuko said.

“These are pretty good seats.” Keiko said, commenting on the position of where they sat.

They weren’t too far back and yet they weren’t close enough to get splatter with blood.

“Well, it's good to have connections.” Shizuru commented.

Behind them, the ticket-selling demon from earlier on pops up and waves a victory sign, before disappearing back to the depths of where he had came from.

Atsuko looks at the field and notices a member missing.

“Hey, where's the old lady? Why ain't she in the final? I wonder if that fight against those human dudes was too much for her. What do you think, Botan?” Atsuko asked, turning to Botan.

Botan looks at her, a bit nervous.

“Huh? Oh, right, right. I guess she must be too tired.” Botan said, before getting up and starting to leave her seat, heading towards the hall.

“Where are you going, Botan? It's about to start!” Atsuko, a bit confused as how the deity of death was going to miss the first match.

Botan’s face twisted into a smile as she scratched her head and began to laugh.

“Ho ho ho...I gotta go...” she said before she stopped and turned around, leaving.

“She's been acting weird lately...” Keiko said, holding onto Puu and looking sadly after the retreating Botan.

Shizuru watched Botan leave with a thoughtful look.

Botan stopped in the passage way and just stands there, her normally happy features now filled with grief. Shizuru walks up behind her and pats her shoulder, causing Botan to stiffen a bit.

“Cheer up!” Shizuru said.

Botan turns her head to look at Kuwabara’s older sister.

“Shizuru…” he said

“You are the guide to the Underworld; she won't be pleased knowing that you're blaming yourself for what happened...” Shizuru said.

Botan looked at her a bit shocked.

“You...you knew?”

“I've been in contact with her. She came to me yesterday and told me that she's doing well.” Shizuru said, recalling the premonition she had earlier that day.

She looked at Botan, giving her a warm smile as she gently squeezed her shoulder.

“She knew exactly what she was doing, and accepted the consequences. With her personality, she'll be happy regardless of where she is. Whatever happens, she'll resolve the problem her way.”

Botan looks down.

“...oh...”

Her tears couldn’t hold in any longer and started to tremble as the salty water began to pour down her face.

“But...but I still can't believe...” Botan started.

“We'll have to leave it to those idiots now. If they lose, well, I'll take their place!” Shizuru said, saying it too causally.

“Stop saying things of such bad luck...” Botan said, sniffing, and whipping her eyes.

The two stayed like that before Botan fully dried her eyes and the two re-entered the stadium, ready to watch what you and the others would have to go through.
