Scene 27 ------------ The Next Morning


* Kurama wakes to the sound of distant retching. But he forgets it a moment when he opens his eyes to complete darkness. He sits up and hopes for a few moments that he's woke up in the middle of the night. But he lowers his unseeing eyes when his internal clock tells him differently. The redhead remains in contemplation until his ears detect the soft padding of bare feet on the thick carpet approaching. It still startles him when a familiar touch lands softly on his shoulder. Touya's stomach flops when blank green eyes raise up. Kurama sniffs.


Kurama- Touya, who's sick?

Touya- Shishi.. Kurama,..?


* Kurama shrugs Touya's hand off his shoulder.


Kurama- Just.. go stay with Shishi.. I need some.. time.


* Touya leaves catching Suzuka and Shishi as they come from the adjoining bathroom. Before they can speak he shakes his head firmly and motions them out into the living area. Shishi moves to curl up on the couch with one of the larger gold velvet throw pillows. Suzuka turns to glare at Touya.


Suzuka- You mean he still can't..?!

Touya- Lower your voice! He's upset enough..


* Suzuka turns and moves away to lean against a far wall.


Shishi(Quietly)- Why? It's so d--- unfair!


* Touya goes over and sits down on the couch beside Shishi.


Touya(Quietly)- I think we all know what he's going to want to do.


* Shishi looks up at Touya wide-eyed.


Shishi- No! I won't.. I can't..!


* Touya sighs despairingly.


Touya- I know, Shishi..

Suzuka- Koenma won't allow him to leave here. If we stay with him we'll be stuck up here in this cupie-doll land..


* They all hear the bedroom door open and fall silent. Kurama moves cautiously farther out into the livingroom. When he bumps gently into an armchair he moves around it, feeling his way, to sit down.


Kurama- I can smell the three of you.

Touya- We're all here, Ku.

Kurama- Shishi, are you okay?


* The blue-haired samurai hurries over to kneel beside Kurama and buries his face against his Alpha's chest.


Shishi- Oh, 'Rama..

Kurama- I heard you retching.


* Kurama gently begins to stroke his fingers through the familiar silky strands. He smiles softly when he realizes that the Imp is wearing his hair loose as he likes it.


Shishi- It's just.. morning sickness.

Kurama- Yes.. Shishi,..

Shishi- I won't leave you!

Kurama- I can't ask you to.. Not now.

Shishi- Not ever!


* Kurama sighs deeply, feeling his mate's deep sorrow that's no doubt amplified by his pregnancy.


Kurama- This pregnancy is turning you to mush.


* Shishi looks up at Kurama.


Shishi- I'll endure it.. Anything for you.

Kurama- Quiet now.. I need to speak with the others.

Touya- Kurama, I feel the same way..

Kurama- Suzuka, come here.


* Suzuka glances toward Touya, then hesitantly obeys.


Kurama- Will you kneel before me.. one last time?


* Suzuka studies Kurama's sightless eyes a moment.


Suzuka- May I speak first?


* Kurama gives a curt nod.


Suzuka- The plain truth.. is that I don't want to die.. It's the whole reason I.. conceded to you in the first place.

Touya- Suze!

Kurama- No, let him speak.


* Touya swallows and looks away.


Suzuka- In the past couple years that we've been acquainted.. I've grown to adore you.. So much so, that I can say this without one ounce of doubt. I will stay with you.. No matter what your end might be.. Or how long it takes to reach it.. That is my firm decision.

Kurama- And I would love to honor that.. But I need to ask something else of you.. I need you to take care of Touya.


* Touya looks back toward Kurama again.


Kurama- I'm only going to stay here until Shishi's baby is born.. Then I'll be returning to Demon World..


* Shishi looks up at Kurama quickly.


Kurama- I couldn't trust these two to anyone else but you, Su.. Will you care for them? Will you raise Shishi's baby as your own?


* Suzuka watches Shishi lower his face back down against Kurama's chest. Then he looks toward Touya. He has come to consider his fellow mates his family and he realizes that he could never harm the unborn child either, despite demon nature that would dictate otherwise.


Suzuka- On one condition, Kurama.

Kurama- Ask. Anything I have is yours.

Suzuka- I ask only that you allow us to stay with you until the baby is born.


* Shishi looks up at Suzuka.


Kurama- That's reasonable.. I will agree..


* Just then Koenma enters. When he feels the tension of the scene he's just interrupted he pauses, then goes on over. When he leans and sees the same obvious blank look in Kurama's green eyes he looks toward Touya. The Ice Master shakes his head. Kurama raises a hand to push the Prince back away from him.


Kurama- Not so close, please.. It makes me uncomfortable.

Koenma- Kurama, I..

Kurama- I'm still blind.

Koenma- You don't see anything? Light, shadows, nothing?

Kurama- No.


* Koenma rubs his chin perplexed.


Koenma- I have the best medical staff in all the three..

Kurama- I will not become a guinea pig.. All I require is to stay here until Shishi's baby is born.

Koenma- You'd have to kill me to get out of here.. At least let my doctors try..


* Kurama sighs with annoyance at the Teen's stubbornness. But he had expected no less.


Kurama- I'll consider it.. Now, please excuse us. We were discussing.. private matters.


* Koenma glances around, nods sadly, and leaves. When the door clicks shut Kurama moves Shishi back gently and stands to face Suzuka. Touya looks up at them.


Touya- Kurama, I'll be coming into my cycle..


* Kurama closes his eyes a moment.


Kurama- Suzuka will take care of you.

Touya- But this is what we..! You and I have been..!

Kurama- Touy.


* Touya closes his gray eyes and looks away. Kurama reaches out to find Suzuka's chest. When he starts to move his hand upward the blonde grabs his wrist quickly.


Suzuka- Uh uh.. Not yet. Please. I'm yours until Shishi's baby is born as you agreed.


* Kurama sighs and feels weariness pulling at him again. He nods then retraces his footsteps back toward the bedroom door. Suzuka remains frozen until Kurama is back inside the other room. He moves quietly to sit down beside Touya.


Suzuka- You both know that I care deeply for you.

Touya(Quietly)- I know.. Kurama chose his second well.


* Suzuka looks toward Touya silently a moment, caught away on the memory of when he and Kurama actually came to their agreement.


Suzuka- We still have five months at least to show that stubborn redhead how much we really care for him.


* Touya and Shishi both look at Suzuka again.


Suzuka- I'm hoping that he'll regain his sight somehow before that, also.

Shishi- Suze,..

Suzuka- Look, I'm no idiot. I know that neither of you want me as your alpha.

Touya- Don't say that.. If Kurama carries through with his decision there is nobody else that we would accept.. Right, Shishi?


* When they both look toward Shishi, the blue-haired demon stands and starts toward the kitchen.


Shishi- I'm hungry.


* Suzuka lowers his eyes. Shishi disappears into the kitchen. Touya touches Suzuka's arm.


Touya- The baby is doing strange things with his moods.

Suzuka- Yeah.


* Suzuka looks at Touya again.


Suzuka- Kurama knows that I won't harm that child.


* Touya nods.


Touya- Like I said.. He chose well.

Suzuka- But I'm not going to give up trying to convince that Fox to keep us together. I'll think of something.


* With that Suzuka stands and leaves the suite to go do some exploring of what will be his home for the next five months.

Okay. This is the last chapter for this installment. The next sequel, Discovering, will be out probably tomorrow or the next day. With all this rainy weather we've been getting I've been feeling very lathergic because of my arthritis and asthma wearing on me. I will perservere, though, as long as you want this to continue. :o)
