Book 5 - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Hiei had woken up a day and a half after he had been ‘punished’, the pain knocking him out cold. He barely knew anything, except the headache was a bitch, and right behind his Jagan eye.
He began to sit up, only to find he was in a strange room, with only a makeshift bed in the corner and a large heavy door on the opposite. He looked around, hearing crying somewhere close. There was someone else in here with him.
“What the…?”
He tried to stand, but found the pain too great. He collapsed back, he head throbbing as the cries became louder. The fire demon could tell they were in the room, but neither where, or from what. He spoke, trying to gentle his voice.
“I know you are there, I am not going to hurt you. I don’t think I could if I tried.”
“You aren’t going to breed with me? I already….”
Hiei closed his eyes against the pain. “I have a mate and a child on the way, so no. I don’t plan on it.” ‘And besides,’ he thought to himself, ‘even if I had the desire to, the pain is too bad to move.’
A small, young cat demon crawled out from under the bed, her face familiar. It struck him that this was the little cat demon from Kaida’s village. She smiled, recognizing him as well. “Hey, you’re that guy that Kanmuri left with. How is your mate, is she better now?”
He put his hand up and blocked the light from his eyes. “No offense, but could you just shut up.”
She shrank back, her face falling. “They punished you too?”
He nodded, trying to remain still and block out as much of the world as he could.
“I could help you, but they bound me with the collar. I can’t even heal a cut now, or it hurts me too.”
He didn’t move, wondering if the annoying little cat would just be quiet and let him suffer in silence. He had never had a headache or any pain this bad, even when Botan had whacked him in the head with her oar.
He felt a gentle hand on his forehead and a flash of light went off as the pain subsided, the small brown cat demon next to him bent over in pain. He turned her, watching her tears. It reminded him too much of Amaya.
He was silent as he put the girl in the bed and let her weep. It was the least he could do for her since she sacrificed herself to take away his pain. He felt bad she couldn’t heal herself, but he knew he had to get them all out, one way or another.
