Scene 25
Scene 25 --------------- The Main Camp
* Hiei comes to a quiet landing on a high branch of a tree at the edge of the larger clearing. The first thing he hears is the baby's steady crying. He watches Sarista patiently trying to get the baby to suckle. As he watches, he feels himself being pulled toward the baby and realizes that it must be his instincts. Almost silently, he leaps from the tree and lands in a crouch not far from where his pack are gathered. Sarista stops Gamaru from rising with just a stern glance. Hiei catches the brief exchange, though, and rises to his full height. Half expecting the pack to reject him, he moves toward them as calmly as he can. He stops once more in front of Sarista.
Hiei- Just.. tell me to leave.. I will understand.. It won't be the first time, 'Ris.
* The Alpha Female glances around, feeling out her fellow packmates' thoughts, then looks back up at Hiei.
Sarista- I see nobody here that's named Yukina, Master.
* Hiei's mouth clenches for a moment, then he notices the crying baby again. Sarista situates the baby girl so that Hiei can get a good look at her. It doesn't take him long to notice how weak the child is. He also takes better notice of her black tufted hair and dull red eyes. These features serve to abolish any last vestages of doubt that still lingers. Then her tiny eyes seem to focus on him. The others exchange glances when she slowly stops crying. Hiei feels the drawing sensation again when she reaches her tiny arms up toward him.
Hiei- What have you named.. her?
Sarista- That priviledge is only yours, Master.
* The Koorime glances at Sarista then bends and takes the baby up into his arms, embracing her against his chest. She instinctually snarls her tiny fingers into his cloak and buries her face against his chest. Hiei forgets about the others as he turns toward the path that leads to the Waterfall Meadow. The others all turn smiling faces toward Sarista when they hear Hiei start to speak just before he disappears up the path.
Hiei- My name is Hiei.. I am your sire.
* The baby girl looks up at him blinking.
Hiei- Yeah, yeah. I know.. It's hard for me to believe, too.
* Hiei reaches the edge of the serene meadow and pauses to scan the area. When he is sure that nobody else is around he looks down at the baby again.
Hiei- You must always remember, my beauty, to be cautious.
* Hiei moves out across the meadow, then sinks to sit down at the river's edge. He can already feel the tiny child getting stronger since he'd been feeding small amounts of his energy into her.
Hiei- Beauty.. Hn, you most certainly are.. But you're going to be strong and fast, too.
* He watches her wave an arm as she looks toward the double-tiered waterfall. Hiei looks toward it himself.
Hiei- Hn. It would be a fitting name for you.. A bit strange, though, to call a baby girl Waterfall. Don't you think?
* He looks back down at the little girl when she gurbles. Since she's a little stronger she struggles to lean forward so she can splash her tiny hands in the water. Finally, Hiei hears a quiet, giggly voice in his mind and he speaks the word that he's heard.
Hiei- River?
* In response, the three-day-old infant demoness laughs and claps her hands. Hiei smirks when she leans fully in his arms to look up at him again. Her eyes are a much brighter red, more like his own now.
Hiei- So that's your name, Little One?
* She smiles. Hiei swallows since the smile is nearly a mirror image of the ones Klarice always gave him. The apparition nods.
Hiei- Then that will be your name, Daughter.
* He nods and embraces her up against his chest again.
Hiei- You are River.. First daughter of Alpha Hiei and his mate Klarice.. Your mother died giving you to me.. I'll never forget her, nor will I allow you to.. I'll tell you all that I know of her, Little One.. She was a strong, brave female. She was of both Ice and Wind.. That makes you a triple elemental, River.. Fire, Ice, and Wind.. Your strength will someday rival my own.
* Hiei half glances over his shoulder when he feels Sarista approaching behind him.
Hiei- Sarista, come.
* The Fire demoness relaxes and goes over to settle down beside him. River looks toward the Alpha Female.
Hiei- I've learned that her name is River.
* Sarista glances toward the flowing water, then nods.
Sarista- It fits her.
Hiei- River, this is Sarista. She is your Alpha Female. She and the others will raise you.. When you're old enough I'll train you.
* When River squirms Hiei relaxes his grasp on her and watches her crawl over into Sarista's lap.
Sarista- Are you ready to eat now, Girlie?
* Sarista smiles and parts the top of her dress. She looks back at Hiei when River is nursing steadily.
Sarista- It looks as though she's going to be as strong-willed as her Daddy. She's refused to nurse until now.
* Hiei looks back down at his little girl, then looks away down the river.
Hiei- She's just like I was when I was born.. So very aware and intelligent.. I don't deserve her.
Sarista- You deserve her.. and so much more, my mate.. You deserve everything you have your mind set on. We are all pledged to do whatever we can to help you attain your goal.
* He looks at Sarista again. Her determination reminds him briefly of a certain detective he used to work with. With a slight shake of his head he reaches his hand over to caress River's chubby cheeks. He chuckles when she quickly gets ahold of his hand.
Hiei- Hn.. Her smile might be Klarice's, but her grip is definately mine.
Sarista- Imagine how strong the rest of your children will be.
* Hiei meets Sarista's eyes, glances down at her swollen middle, then nods and looks away again.
Sarista- We'll raise all of them to be strong.. They'll be blessings to you, Master.
* The Koorime gives only another slight nod, then stands and blinks away. River squirms excitedly, but gives no further fuss as she continues her meal.

Okay, this is the last scene of this sequel. There will be a small passage of time between this one and the next one just to move the story along some. But the title should give you some indication of the direction the story will be moving in from now on. The title will be "Initiating". Hope to see all my regulars there, as well as lots of new faces maybe. :o)
