Scene 22
Scene 22 ------------ Hiei’s Bedroom
* After not being able to sleep, the Koorime extricates himself from the bed carefully so he won't wake Sarista and leaves. He removes a plate of leftovers from the refrigerator in his kitchen and sits at the table. He is just staring at the plateful of food when he feels Koenma’s portal open. He doesn’t even look up at the Prince.
Hiei- I don’t need to hear it from you, too.. I wish all of you would just trust my judgment..
Koenma- Not when your judgment reeks of ignorance.
* Hiei glares up at Koenma with a growl.
Hiei- I could kill you with my bare hands now you know.
* He feels the now-familiar stirring of the orb inside him and stands.
Hiei- Just.. get out of my..!
Koenma- If you’re going to kill me, then do so and be done with it.
* Hiei looks up at the Teen incredulously.
Koenma- But I’m going to tell you what I came to tell you.
Hiei- If it’s about.. her..
Koenma- If you continue to neglect this baby until it’s born..
Hiei- He.
Koenma- What?
Hiei- The child is a boy.. not an it!
* Hiei shakes his head and turns to leave the kitchen.
Hiei- Of all people, I would think you’d be the one on my side.. You’re the one that wanted to take her back in the first place.. It was my d--- stubbornness in thinking I was showing some kind of.. honor..
* Hiei continues into his livingroom. Koenma follows, but remains alert. He’s also very aware of the turmoil waging inside his friend. He watches Hiei sit on his couch and grab one of the cushions to hug it, looking very much like a stricken, lost child.
Koenma- Hiei, if you don’t give.. him some of your energy periodically until he’s born.. he’ll be born with only one desire.
* Hiei looks away with a frown.
Hiei- How the h--- do you know about that?!
Koenma- I know everything I need to know about demon nature.. It just sometimes takes time to sort through it all.
* After several moments the apparition recomposes himself and glares back up at Koenma.
Hiei- So you think this’ll change my decision because..?
Koenma- Then.. this is what you..?
Hiei- Hn.
* Now Koenma scowls and takes a few steps closer to the couch.
Koenma- You want the child to hate you?
Hiei- It’s what I’ll deserve.. I, myself, felt the same desire toward my Sire.. It intensified even more after I learned of my Mother’s death.. But then one day.. it just went away.. so I figured the b------
was killed before I could get my hands on him.
* Hiei looks away.
Koenma- Your Sire was a clan leader.. He was killed when he grew too old to hold his position any longer.
* For a couple moments Hiei shows no response to this revelation, then he just shrugs.
Hiei- Perhaps it’ll end the same way for me.
Koenma- Or perhaps your life will end looking into eyes that’ll be the same color as your own.
* Hiei looks back up at Koenma.
Koenma- I don’t know why you think you would deserve to be killed by your own son. But do you have even a clue about what it’ll do to your half Human son? Half Human, Hiei.. With the ability to harbor regrets until that emotion destroys him.. Haven’t you seen how it still bothers Yusuke about how he treated his own..?
* Hiei lowers his eyes.
Hiei- I’ll deserve it.. for killing his mother.
* Koenma takes his pacifier out of his mouth.
Koenma- What?
Hiei- Leave me.
Koenma- Hiei,..
Hiei- Please.. just go. We both know that you can’t change it.
* For several moments Koenma just stares at Hiei. Then he quietly turns and returns to his portal. The Koorime decides to go put the plate of leftovers back in the refrigerator. He pauses to stare down at the portal remote that’s been ‘conveniently’ left on the table. He sighs then pockets it and continues putting the food away.
