Scene 21
Scene 21 ------------ The Ravine
* Sarista smiles at Trinka and Celestia as she wraps the squirming, ebony-tufted baby girl in a blanket.
Sarista- She's as fiesty as her Daddy.
* The three continue making over the squalling baby girl. None of them notice when Klarice convulses and draws her last breath.
Celestia- Hiei's going to be so proud of her.
(#) Trinka- I hope mine will be as cute.
Sarista- As soon as you're rested, Klarice, we'll take her out to meet her sire.
* When she gets no response Sarista looks toward Klarice. Her wide smile falters.
Sarista- klarice?
* She moves over to shake the Ice hybrid.
Sarista- 'Rice?!
* Sarista quickly places the baby girl in Celestia's arms. Then she and Trinka begin to try to revive Klarice. When they slowly realize that the effort is in vain they lift their hands from her and look at each other.
(#) Trinka- Momma, what happened?
Celestia- She was so.. alive.. a few moments ago.
Sarista- I don't know.
(#) Trinka- She was so.. hot throughtout the whole delivery.. Do you think bearing a Fire demon's baby was.. too much for her?
* Celestia looks down at the baby girl in her arms when she begins to cry with renewed vigor.
Celestia- No, shh, Little One.. It wasn't your fault.
* They all three feel Hiei when he enters and look at each other before looking up at him. They watch him move forward slowly to stare down at Klarice.
Hiei- I.. I.. felt her.. leave.
* Sarista lowers her eyes from Hiei's empty gaze. He seems to hear the baby cry for the first time and looks toward her. Celestia quietly moves the blanket and tilts her so that she can meet her Father's eyes for the first time. For several moments Hiei studies the baby's features. When there is finally no doubt left in his mind that she is his child the Koorime looks back down at Klarice.
Sarista- Hiei,.. I-I don't know what..
Hiei(Quietly)- I do.
* They all three catch his thought about himself being cursed as Hiei turns to leave.
Sarista- Hiei, you must hold the baby..
* Hiei pauses briefly, then continues on outside. Never looking back. Celestia looks at Sarista.
Celestia- He blames himself.
(#) Trinka- He's hurting terribly inside, Mother.
* Sarista nods and bows her head to express her last saddened respect to Klarice. Celestia and Trinka join her. Outside, Habataro looks up when Hiei comes back out of the cave. For several moments the Koorime just stares toward the trees. When he suddenly blinks away Coutaro hurries to Habataro.
Coutaro- His mate has died.
* Habataro stands up from the small boulder he was sitting on.
Habataro- Oh d---.
* Habataro takes off.
* Sarista smiles at Trinka and Celestia as she wraps the squirming, ebony-tufted baby girl in a blanket.
