Interesting

Stretching, Yusuke Urameshi let out a loud sigh. “Thank God that’s over with!”

“No kiddin.” Kuwabara was next to him.

Kurama and Hiei both silently agreed.

They had just finished the whole registration crap, and they had taken the girl’s advice and had shown up before 4.Things went better because of it, but it still took a few days to get through everything.

Speaking of which…

“Hey!” Yusuke shouted at the girl sitting on the couch and even though there were all kinds of other people around this time, she frowned up at them as they came over…once again somehow knowing she was the one the ‘hey’ was for.

“My name is not ‘hey’. I believe I told you what it was, so use it will you?” she asked in annoyance.

“Eh, sorry.” Yusuke sheepishly scratched at the back of his head. “So, uh, could you tell us where the arcade is?”

At that she first blinked at the brown-eyed teen, then stared, then started laughing. It was a silent laugh, one that looked more like she was crying instead. “Ah, you guys are from the city, aren’t you? An arcade around here? Yeah, right.”

“What?!” Kuwabara and Yusuke yelled in unison. “You’re kidding, right?! Right?!”

Kurama was trying very hard to contain his laughter and Hiei was smirking at the two fools.

Thera just half-grinned up at them. “That’s what you get for coming to a crappy town like this. Why did you come here anyway? There’s literally nothing here but hills, trees, and…land…hardly any tall buildings and the tallest ones are only…maybe 4 floors. If that. And there’s only very few of those.”

Kuwabara and Yusuke collapsed to their knees, literally in tears.

Thera’s eyebrow rose and then she sighed. “Yeah, there’s not much to do around here. Nothing much at all.”

“Stupid Koenma!! I’m going to k..ill him!!” Yusuke growled as he slid onto the couch next to her, to which she stiffened slightly and sort of gave off a warning with spirit energy, though she didn’t seem to realize it.

Kurama and Hiei blinked at that. Interesting.

“Er, Urameshi…” Kuwabara had also felt it.

“What?” Yusuke blinked at the others.

“Uh…” Kuwabara wasn’t sure how to tell him, so he just looked away and sat on the arm of the other side. “And I’m supposed to be the dumb one.”

“So the fool admits it.”

“SHUT UP, SHRIMP!”

Thera was frowning at Yusuke, but let it slide since he didn’t seem to intentionally do anything wrong and then moved her slightly mismatched eyes to the other two.

“So…all of you guys are Japanese?” she asked since the two were starting to argue in that language.

“Yes.” The redhead smiled. “But I am curious; most people don’t seem to know the difference.”

She stared for a moment before sighing. “I watch a lot of anime…and read a bunch of manga… I started to tell the difference easily after that.”

“Really?” Kuwabara asked in excitement.

“You mean they have that here?!” Yusuke leaned in a little closer, making her energy rise up again.

She nodded. “Yeah…not nearly the same amount you guys have, but we have a lot. It’s become quite popular over the span of the last four years.”

“What ones?!” The boys were suddenly very bouncy, to which her eyebrow went up again. “Um, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Roruni Kenshin, Wolf’s Rain, Fruits Basket, Black Cat, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Naruto, Bleach, Trigun, uhm…let’s see….Dead Leaves….Hellsing, Megumi, uh….well…” She glanced up at them and blinked at their expressions. Yusuke and Kuwabara seemed happy, Kurama was looking at her in interest and Hiei…just looked bored…and like he didn’t want to be there.

“So then, do you know any words?” Yusuke asked her suddenly.

With a small smile, she said. “You know, they do translate them to English.”

“Oh…” Yusuke and Kuwabara blinked.

“But do you?” Kurama asked in interest.

She shrugged. “Just a few scattered words.”

“Like?” Yusuke grinned; she frowned slightly, then sighed and looked up at Kurama and said the first word that came to her mind. “Kitsune.”

Yusuke and Kuwabara fell off the couch.

Kurama blinked in astonishment and now Hiei was interested.

“Wh-why would you think that…heheh. He’s not a fox….heheh.” Yusuke got up laughing nervously.

“Ye-yeah, Yeah…” Kuwabara nodded in agreement, as she just stared at them confused.

“….I didn’t mean that…it’s just one of those scattered words that I know.”

“Oh, right! Right!! Heheh…” Yusuke felt stupid…Kuwabara, too.

“So…what else?” Kuwabara asked, to which blinked at him and stated in a deadpanned voice. “Baka.”

“Gah!” Kuwabara’s hand fisted once he was back on his feet. “You…”

Hiei was smirking and Yusuke was snickering and Kurama couldn’t resist a small amused smile.

“Damned short people.” He muttered quietly to himself.

“What about me?” Yusuke grinned, pointing at his face with his thumb.

“Igai.” She said without hesitation, to which they blinked and she stared in shock as though….

“Oh, yeah? What about Shrimp?!” Kuwabara growled, glaring at Hiei, who returned the favor.

“Gunkan. Uh…”

The four men stared at the girl, who looked completely confused.

“Uhm, what’s wrong?” Yusuke questioned, she blinked at looked at him and answered quietly. “I just…” she trailed off, her hand had been half-way to her face and a glazed over look came to her eyes.

“Just?” Kurama inquired gently.

She blinked again and her brow furrowed as she looked back up at them and gave a strange smile. “I just don’t remember knowing those last two…strange…” She trailed off again, with that same glazed look and knitted brow.

The guys exchanged looks. This girl was…interesting…

“Thera?” Kurama smiled at her.

“Hm?” She asked, turning her pondering face to him.

“This may be strange to ask, but do you believe in the supernatural?”

Suddenly there was a guarded expression in her eyes as well as her body. “Why?”

He knew this would probably happen, so he took off his smile and continued. “Because…you seem to act more on your instinct and feelings than some of the others that I’ve met.”

Her brows furrowed at him, for many different reasons, and she let out a deep breath with closed eyes. “Yeah…I do.”
“Do you see ghosts, too?” Kuwabara seemed unable to contain himself.

Her eyes went wide and she stared at him, then even more guarded than before, she titled her head as her hardened eyes stared at him. “No…I hear them…the things I do see…”

Clearing her throat, she glanced over as a blonde woman came over. “Uhm, Thera?”

“Eli, meet my new friends. They’re all from Japan, by the way. Yusuke Urameshi, Kazuma Kuwabara, Shuichi Minamino, and …Hiei Jaganshi. Guys, meet the voice on the phone, Eli Matthews.”

“Hiya!” Yusuke grinned.

“Nice to meet you.” Kuwabara was also grinning.

“Pleasure.” Kurama smiled kindly.

“Hn.” Hiei glared at the smaller female.

“Hi.” Eli smiled nervously, then gave her friend a questioning look to which the she just raised her eyebrows and moved her eyes slightly, silently telling her that she’d explain later.

“Anyway, I have to go. See you.”

“Hey!!!” Yusuke shouted, to which he earned an angry glare. “My name. Is. Not. ‘Hey.’”

Yusuke gulped. “Sorry…but, uhm. Uhh…”

“What?” She asked, irritated now. Her friend had actually sent Yusuke a sort of warning look that basically said either-come-up-with-something-good-or-be-killed.

“What he means…”Kurama quickly stepped to save his friend. “is that it would be nice to get to know you.”

Thera’s eyes widened and all she got out was. “Uhm…kay…”

“Er, yeah, that was it!” Yusuke grinned unconvincingly to which the girl gave another sigh. “So we’ll see you tomorrow, right?”

With a shrug, Thera answered. “Maybe.” And both her and her friend walked off at the same time.

“That’s interesting.” Kurama mumbled quietly.

“So you noticed it too.” Hiei asked, watching the retreating backs.

“Indeed.”

“Kurama…” Yusuke’s brow ticked. “Would you just explain already?”

The fox closed his eyes with a smile. “Those two act more like they’re twins then friends.”

“Huh?”

“Well…watch them closely next time they’re together. They move in much the same ways and at the same times as well as…able to silently communicate.”

“Hmm.” Yusuke folded his arms.

“Her spirit energy is kinda scary.” Kuwabara muttered.

“Yes, it is rather unusual.”

“Oh, you mean when I got close to her?” Yusuke asked.

“…Urameshi, you did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

“What? I was curious. I wanted to know what she’d do.”

“Apparently, she wasn’t too bothered with you.” Hiei stated.

“You can’t be serious?! It looked like she was about unleash on him!”

“No, Hiei’s right.” Kurama sighed. “If she thought he was a real threat, I’m afraid something would’ve happened to him.”

“So you’re saying that she trusts us?”

“No…not entirely, at least not in the sense you think.”

“I’m confused.” Kuwabara frowned, making Hiei bite back whatever it was he wanted to say.

“Yeah…” Yusuke furrowed his brows.

“It’s like I said, she goes on instinct and feelings. That girl knows that her life could be trusted in our hands, however, she’s cautious and it may take her some time to trust us all completely.”

“But she seems to like us.” Yusuke stated.

“Yes. That she does.” Kurama smiled. “Especially if she introduced us to one of her own friends.”

“Hiei, what do you think?” Yusuke blinked at the dark-haired demon.

“…Her mind’s blocked.”

The other three blinked at him.

“Even from the Jagan?’ Kurama asked.

Nodding, the fire demon stared up at them. “I tried to get into her mind earlier, but it was impossible.”

“Wow. Even you fail at something, other than social skills and manners.” Kuwabara grinned.

“I will kill you.”

“Alright, so…do you think she’s why we were sent here in the first place?” Yusuke wondered outloud.

“Could be…” The fox frowned in thought. “At any rate we should still keep a look out.”

“Right.” They all agreed.
