Chapter 02

Kurama woke up on the floor of his room, he was still dirty the blood and semen from his and Hiei’s activities still stained to his still nude body. Tears had dried on his cheeks but just waking and remembering almost brought Kurama to cry again. He picked himself up off the floor, he needed to clean himself if his mother came in and found him like this, there would be a lot of explaining he wasn’t exactly in the mood for.

Kurama went into his side bathroom and turned on the shower to a comfortably warm temperature. The tears on his cheeks were soon lost in the torrent stream of water from the shower. What had gone wrong? Was it him? Was he flawed somehow, of course he was, humanely. But Hiei had known about those things even before they had become an official couple. Being friends for several years had made that clear enough. Both had flaws but Kurama had been trying so hard to make this work. Had Hiei never felt the same? Was he always just using him?

Kurama’s muscles didn’t seem to want to work, he found himself on his knees, the water not stopping his tears flow. It was possible… Hiei… how could I have been such a fool…

“Schuichi!” Kurama looked up into his mother’s worried face. “Schuichi, what’s wrong? I heard the water running, it’s so early, it’s almost 12:30 am.”

Kurama hung his head and openly let himself cry. Not only had Hiei seen fit to break his heart but now he in his own insensitive state had woken his dear mother.

“Schuichi, don’t cry, what’s wrong, what happened?” His mother turned off the shower and helped him to get out and dry himself enough to dress in a second pair of night clothes.

With some difficulty Kurama explained to his mother what had just occurred, perhaps no more than a few hours ago. His mother had known about him and Hiei so it was only a shock when Kurama informed her of Hiei’s actions.

“It’s all right Schuichi. You deserve better than someone who’ll treat you like that. It’s all right,” she murmured trying to sooth him gently. “Hey, I got a new movie last night, you want to go see it, right now? It’s that new movie we saw a preview for last week, the one with the male star and the girl assistant. It’s a romance comedy. I used to watch movies with my mom whenever I got dumped.”

“You got dumped?”

“A few times.”

“A movie sounds good.”

The movie wasn’t exactly a five star film but it might have made three. The comedy was original and often very surprisingly punned. The romance had good scenes and made sense for once. Kurama and his mother had been curled up on the couch for the run of nearly the whole hour and a half of the movie. Kurama wasn’t crying anymore at the end, and with a goodnight exchange to his mother, seeing as they had four more hours of sleep or so until Kurama had to go to school. They went to their rooms. Kurama and his mother had changed the sheets of his bed, for obvious reasons. Kurama curled up comfortably deciding that he would get back at Hiei, somehow. Or maybe just forget. Revenge was so overused.

“See you tomorrow Minamino-san!” one of the girls called across the yard. He looked back with a friendly smile and waved to the girl as he departed. He didn’t bother to watch the rest of the rabble that would follow in the wake of his acknowledgement of her.

Nothing was really out of the ordinary except that Hiei was no longer going to be around, but he didn’t let his thoughts rest of that. After all he had some homework to do and maybe afterwards he’d help his mother with dinner.

“Hey, Kurama!” a more familiar voice called to him with a more familiar name of his. He paused to look to where the shout had come from.

“Yusuke!” Kurama greeted as the dark-haired teen came over. “Hello, how are you? Haven’t seen you in a while.”

“Yeah, I know, it’s been a while.” Yusuke agreed. “Hey are you doing anything this Friday?”

“No, why? Are you, Kuwabara and everyone going somewhere?” Kurama inquired. Yusuke shook his head.

“Nah, I just wanted to do something with you.” Yusuke shrugged. Kurama looked at his quizzically, what was that supposed to mean?

“You know something?” Yusuke said after a moment of watching Kurama’s puzzled face, long red hair framing his face and plant green eyes watching him intently and so questioningly. “You’re kinda cute when you’re confused.”

“Yusuke?” Kurama asked, “Are you feeling all right? You’re acting a bit oddly.”

“Kurama. To put things plain in simple in case I haven’t been as forward already, I’m hitting on you.” Yusuke told the redhead with a smile.

“Oh.” Was all Kurama could say after a moment. “When… was this?”

“I’ve liked you for a long time actually Kurama,” Yusuke shrugged, “You know, even when we first met, you were still pretty hot. Guess it just took me a while to actually bring it up.”

“You were gay?” Kurama asked confused. He had always thought Yusuke was straight, especially with the whole Keiko thing.

“Well yeah, I am… kinda… I’m bisexual but whatever, right?” Yusuke shrugged.

“And Keiko?” Kurama inquired. “Does she know?”

“Heck yeah, we broke up a while back, I guess you didn’t hear about it.” Yusuke shrugged. Kurama looked at him shocked. “But hey, it wasn’t exactly a lot of heartache for either of us, we weren’t really broken up about this. Keiko’s liked this guy Akira for a time too, and they’re getting together sometime probably, since she’s available anyway.”

“I see,” Kurama said, suddenly realizing just how far apart the entire team had drifted, for all he knew Kuwabara and Yukina were married now as well. When did this happen?

Kurama looked down at the ground and stared at it hard. Come to think of it ever since he started his intimate relationship with Hiei he never really went to check up on his friends or anyone, it just sort of didn’t seem like a big priority and it really should have been. You just don’t abandon your friends for a boyfriend, or anything else for that matter.

“Yusuke, how is everyone?” Kurama asked looking up at him again. The dark-haired teen grinned and slinging an arm over the redheads shoulders he walked them off.

“You really have been out of it. Didn’t you hear? Kuwabara moved out of his parents place. He’s living in Shizuru’s apartment now. Yukina and him have even started going steady and everything.” Yusuke explained on the way over.

“Yusuke! Kurama! Hey haven’t seen you in a while there fox-boy.” Kuwabara said as he welcomed them in and clapped him on the back.

“I know. A problem I must quickly remedy. I’m really very sorry about not coming around to visit you guys more often,” Kurama apologized.

“Nah, that’s okay you were only missing what? I couple of months maybe. You missed a lot of fun,” Kuwabara laughed, “I could have really used your help in moving my junk over here. But I managed to drag Yusuke down at least.”

“Kurama, that you?” Shizuru asked as she poked her head out of what must be the kitchen area. “Hey red, where’ve you been wholed up all this time?”

“Hey no giving him a hard time, we should be happy the great Minamino-san decided to give us lowly peasants the grace of his presence,” Kuwabara joked.

“I really am sorry…” Kurama said sheepishly. Shizuru smiled at him and tossed a cooking spoon at him, he caught it and looked at it oddly.

“While you’re over here why don’t you guys help Kuwabara make us some lunch?” she said with a grin as she breezed by and sat herself on the couch to watch her soap opera’s.

“Just like Shizuru,” Kuwabara muttered as he sulked off to the kitchen with Yusuke and Kurama behind him. Within seconds of trying to prepare something as simple as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches the kitchen was a mess.

“We need reinforcements,” Yusuke declared, “Hey Kuwabara can you call Yukina and Botan over or something?”

Kuwabara had a time limping across the carpet with peanut butter pasted on his hands. Trying to dial the phone numbers would be a feat worth accomplishing.

“How have Botan and Yukina been doing? Is Yukina still living with Genkai?” Kurama asked as he carefully tried to wash the bits of jelly from his hair. How it had gotten there was when it was taken out and Kuwabara had tripped over Yusuke sending the contents of the jar sailing as he had been undoing the lid when he got it out. The kitchen was far too crowded for all three boys to work and not have to be tripping over each others feet and all the rest. Two slender girls could probably move about quite comfortably though. Too bad Kuwabara took up a lot of room with his bulk.

“Botan? Busy with Koenma as usual.” Yusuke shrugged, “Genkai is still at the temple and apparently quite content without us to bother her all the time. Yukina I think still goes there but she’s gotten more social. I think it’s a side effect of Kuwabara taking her out all the time. Of course he has to borrow tons of money from me to do it.” Yusuke almost griped making sure that Kuwabara could hear the last part.

“Shut up Urameshi!” Kuwabara called back.

The rest of the next few hours was spent with Yusuke and Kuwabara and the others. The girls came over to help save the kitchen and lunch. Afterwards they went to watch some movies and talked some it was good to be with everyone again.

However as the hours fleeted away and afternoon gave way to late afternoon and evening they had to depart. Yusuke however stayed with him insisting on walking him home.

“So Kurama…” Yusuke started off as they took a short cut through the park, “have you thought about what I asked you earlier?”

That’s right he still hadn’t answered Yusuke about a date on Friday. He didn’t really have anything planned. Yusuke wasn’t bad looking either, he had a well defined body too. In truth he really did like Yusuke, though he had never thought about him in that way since he had found Hiei of more interest, although now…

Why not?

“Sure,” Kurama said. “Friday afternoon would be fine.” He nodded giving Yusuke a smile which the teen returned.

“Wow! Thanks Kurama!” Yusuke said happily, “You have no idea how happy you just mad me, I just wanna-” he cut himself off, “Um… I know this is probably being a bit forward but… can I kiss you, Kurama?”

Kurama blinked at him slightly surprised by the dark-haired teens directness and in response leaned into Yusuke’s face brushing his lips softly against the others. Yusuke grinned and pressed his lips more readily to the ningen kitsune youkai.

Kurama felt Yusuke’s wet tongue slide against his bottom lip asking for entrance, which he allowed. Both Kurama and Yusuke’s eyes slid shut when the two wet velvet tongues brushed against each other. Yusuke’s kiss was sweet and unhurried, Kurama kind of liked it… a lot.

Feeling one of Yusuke’s cool hands that had gotten up under his shirt Kurama broke the kiss. Though only for a moment to both gasp for the sensation of cool fingers sliding over his abdomen as much as to breath for a moment before plunging back in, wrapping both his arms around Yusuke’s neck trying to pull him closer. Yusuke’s other hand wrapped around his waist to pull him closer.

Then the familiar energy presence made Kurama jerk slightly. Hiei. Hiei was here, in the park right now. He could even be watching them from one of the trees!

-*-*-*-*-

Red eyes glared from the darkness at the couple standing beneath the tree he was seated in. He purposely raised his energy to let them both know he was there but neither seemed to acknowledge it.

-*-*-*-*-

But why should that matter? It shouldn’t. It didn’t. They weren’t together anymore. It didn’t matter that he was kissing Yusuke, even right in front of his former lover. He didn’t need to feel guilty. It wasn’t like he was purposely doing this to make him jealous.

After what he said before Kurama doubted Hiei felt anything for him, least of all jealousy. After all Hiei didn’t care about him at all.

-*-*-*-*-

Blast this! Was Kurama doing this on purpose to get back at him for last night? Was it? No… that was clear. But still jealous envy reared its ugly head as the koorime watched Yusuke ravish his kitsune.

-*-*-*-*-

Why Yusuke didn’t sense the fire demon Kurama didn’t know probably too tired or focused on their kiss. Then he and Yusuke had to come up for breath again. This time instead of returning to Kurama’s mouth Yusuke descended to the redheads neck and proceeded to trace his tongue along the contours making Kurama shiver and moan.

-*-*-*-*-

Hiei suddenly felt a twitch in his groin with the sound of Kurama’s moan. He wanted to be the one doing that to the redhead not that stupid hanyou…

-*-*-*-*-

Yusuke quickly located a fast pulsing vein and latched his mouth onto it to suckle. The hand inside Kurama’s shirt reaching higher and brushing over one of Kurama’s nipples and causing the fox to whimper as his breath came in short gasps. The hand on Kurama’s waist slid slightly lower to cup Kurama’s bottom.

-*-*-*-*-

That’s mine. Hiei thought with a glare. He knew they could sense him but they weren’t acknowledging it, either of them.

-*-*-*-*-

“Yusuke…” Kurama started trying to pull away. If he didn’t stop this soon they’d be doing it in the middle of the night in a public park. That was certainly not the most romantic idea.

“Was I doing something wrong?” Yusuke asked puzzled. Kurama shook his head.

“No, it’s just… here.” Kurama said looking around the park. Yusuke looked too and grinned.

“Yeah, sorry, got carried a way a bit,” Yusuke said sheepishly. Kurama smiled. “So Friday? I’ll pick you up at 7:30?”

Kurama nodded in agreement. Yusuke returned in kind, “I’ll take you home now.”

After a quick goodbye and final nighttime peck on the cheek. Kurama arrived home and Yusuke started back out to go to his own home.

Hiei dropped out of his tree as he had followed the two to Kurama’s house. He glared pointedly at the spirit detective.

“Hey, Hiei, been a while.” Yusuke hailed in a friendly gesture.

“What did you think you were doing with Kurama?” Hiei all but hissed at him.

“Oh you saw that, did you? Who’d have guessed you’d be such a perv to do something like that,” Yusuke laughed.

“Keep away from Kurama.” Hiei told him icily.

“Oh, jealous?” Yusuke asked arching a brow. “You treated him like dirt, it was bound to happen. Now Kurama’s going to be mine. So back off, you had your chance and you blew it, more than literally.”

Hiei was silent as he glared and Yusuke passed right by him. Hiei hated Yusuke a lot right now, but what made him even angrier was that the human was absolutely right.
