Hiei's Harem - PT. 17 - Breaking

Thanks for all the reviews so far. If you love angst, this is going to be the sequel for you. It’s going to be a bit longer than the last couple have been, also. After these first two scenes I’m going to try to add 3 new scenes per update, depending on how the flow of the story goes. This particular scene is rather long, but I’m not apologizing. You’ll love it or hate it, but that’s how the whole story’s been so far. Right? :o)

Scene 2 ------------ Back Outside


* When Hiei turns to face Kurama, removing his katana, Yusuke hurries to place himself between his friends.


Yusuke- Come on, guys! Don’t do this.. There has to be a better way.

Kurama- Move, Yusuke.

Yusuke- No! I won’t let the two of you..!


* Kurama merely tilts his head and the next thing Yusuke knows he’s tangled in a mass of vines and dragged across the ground out of the way. Kurama turns his attention back to Hiei.


Kurama- Now. Let’s do this.


* For a couple moments Hiei just stares between his struggling friend and the silver Kitsune. His words ring back to him of what he’d told Yusuke when they faced Genbu in Maze Castle. ‘Do you know why I chose him to be my partner? To avoid fighting him myself..’ And now, here he was. Facing not the humanized redhead, but the Fox in his full demon form. Angry for a justifiable reason. Hiei gathers himself and looks back up at Kurama.


Hiei- If.. When you defeat me.. you’ll get everything, you know.


* Kurama faulters briefly at his cryptic words, but his instincts dictate that he must continue with his current course.


Kurama- So be it.


* At the cold, calculated words Yusuke stills his struggling and watches his two friends stare at each other. But when Kurama calls out his rose whip they both feel the strong pulse that shudders through their smaller friend. It surprises them both when Hiei backs up a few feet and closes his eyes. He’s fought beside Kurama enough to know the Kitsune’s own sense of honor won’t allow him to attack an unready opponent. For several moments the Koorime debates with himself and the orb inside him. With his current strength he probably could easily defeat the Fox. But does he truly want to? Would he be able to kill an old friend and be able to continue his life? He glances toward Yusuke briefly. The Toushin is still too stunned to move. No doubt if he continues doing what he has to he would lose two friends today. Hiei closes his eyes once more, ‘You were right, ‘Ris.. I’m not who I used to be’.


Hiei- Hn.. Well, it was nice while it lasted.


* He dwells a moment more on memories of the ones he left back at the new fortress. He can only hope that Kurama will show his own offspring the same mercy he showed the Fox’s. Hiei straightens his posture and meets Kurama’s eyes as he tosses his katana on the ground at Kurama’s feet. The Youko’s eyes widen. This isn’t what he had planned, ‘D--- it! Leave it to Hiei to pull a stunt like this!’.


Kurama- What the..?!

Hiei- I won’t fight you, Kurama.. The females and their offspring are rightfully yours..

Kurama- Hiei, if you concede..

Hiei- Hn. I refuse to live with your death on my conscious, Fox.. At one time, if I had this power that I do now.. I would have done so without hesitation.. But I refused to return to that existence a long time ago when I was being trained in Mukuro’s dungeon.. My decision on that still stands.


* Kurama remains frozen as Hiei drops to his knees and lowers his eyes.


Hiei- So my journey ends here.. My life is in your hands.. Everything that’s mine is..


Kurama- Shut up!


* Now the struggle is Kurama’s. His tail waves slowly behind him as he wars with himself. His instincts urge him to leap forward and claim this most valued victory and everything that would come with it. But another voice reawakens inside him and screams for him to back off. Slowly he reaches down to gather up Hiei’s discarded sword. Yusuke’s energy suddenly explodes inside him when Kurama starts to move toward Hiei. When his vines are rent asunder it makes the Kitsune stagger with a yowl of annoyance.


Kurama- Yowww, s---, Yusuke!!


* Yusuke leaps to his feet, in his own full demon form now.


Yusuke- No!! I won’t let you..!

Kurama- D--- it, will you give me some credit?!


* Kurama’s words stun Yusuke out of his rage. The Kitsune continues going over to Hiei to hand him back the sword, hilt first.


Kurama- Shrewd maneuver, Hiei.. But I decline.


* The jaganshi looks up at Kurama wide-eyed.


Kurama- Your ploy nearly worked, I will give you that. My instincts are harder to control in this form. But my humanity would never let me live with myself, either.


* Yusuke relaxes and comes over. For a couple moments Hiei doesn’t move, then he reclaims his sword as he stands.


Kurama- We want Demon World to continue on its peaceful path, do we not?

Yusuke- I certainly do.

Hiei- While I appreciate your decision, Kurama. It doesn’t solve anything.

Kurama- Then perhaps it would help if you tell us the real reason you allowed our children to live.

Hiei- I thought I already did. They’re innocent.. Even in my worst rogue days I never took a child’s life, Fox.. It wasn’t for some hidden purpose of extortion or control.


* Hiei looks away to show his annoyance.


Hiei- It angered me.. and saddened me to think that you would even suspect me capable of something like that against either of you.


* When Hiei sheathes his sword and starts to move around them Yusuke reaches out and stops him.


Yusuke- Woah, hold up, Shorty.. We’re not finished here.

Kurama- Yusuke is correct. We still have the issue to resolve.

Hiei- I have a mate that’s giving birth.. Come back to my new home with me, we can.. resolve.. this mess along the way.

Yusuke- Do you intend to release them to us?


* Hiei stills for several moments, then raises a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose a moment. Finally, he turns to look up at the two.


Hiei- I have no intentions of releasing any of my females that wish to remain with me. As far as the brats are concerned.. I’d already planned on letting them make their own decisions when they were old enough to do so.

Kurama- Then you won’t mark them?

Hiei- I’ve only had to mark two of my own offspring because their mothters died giving birth to them.


* Hiei lowers his eyes briefly at opening up those relatively still-fresh wounds of Klarice and Gamaru’s losses.


Hiei- Now, I may lose another.

Kurama- Explain.


* Hiei glances back up at them then turns away.


Hiei- I’m going back home. We’re done wasting time. If you want to come then follow, if not..

Yusuke- Hold on, I may not know much.. But I do know that once we make contact with those kids they’ll imprint on us.

Hiei- Hn. So the problem is..?


* Kurama and Yusuke both just blink down at him then look at each other with understanding dawning in their eyes. Hiei starts away again with a grunt.


Hiei- As I said, we’re done here.


* The Koorime looks toward Alaric.


(#) Hiei- Kirin, I’m returning to my new fortress. You’ll carry on with Alaric as usual. Report any problems to me.

(#) Kirin- Hai, M’Lord.

(#) Hiei- Hab, the rest of you, come on. We’re going home.


* With the mental orders delivered Hiei takes off knowing that his pack won’t be far behind. Yusuke looks at Kurama.


Yusuke- You were tempted.. I felt it.


* Kurama keeps his eyes on their departing friend.


Kurama- I had no intention of killing him, Yusuke.


* Kurama starts off to follow. Yusuke glances around at the others as they rush out of Alaric to follow Hiei. Dagon pauses to glance back at Yusuke.


Dagon- You coming along, Yu-Yu?


* When the name is spoken it brings back Yusuke’s memories of his time spent with the Crow. Kurama pauses to look back at Yusuke.


Kurama- Come on, Yusuke.

Yusuke- Kurama, I.. don’t think I should travel with you guys.. I’ll get Koenma to..


* Kurama waves Dagon off and goes back to face Yusuke.


Kurama- Running away from your words now won’t solve anything, either, Yusuke.. Do you want to know what my plan truly was in goading Hiei into that fight?


* Yusuke trails his eyes up Kurama’s muscular chest to meet his golden eyes and swallows.


Yusuke- Y-you.. wanted to.. claim him.


* Kurama’s lips twitch into a smirk.


Kurama- I knew Hiei’s honor would never have allowed him to kill me.. Everything was going according to my plan until he pulled that conceding s---.. I didn’t want to claim him in such a wimpy-a—ed way as that.

Yusuke- You expected him to give up in battle.


* Kurama nods as they both turn and start walking off in the direction the others left in. They both can sense that the group has pulled up and is waiting for them to catch up.


Kurama- But I must admit, it was just as hard for me to resist that offering.. as it is for me to resist giving you the same challenge.

Yusuke- Because you’d know I’d whip you’re a--?


* Kurama chuckles, but gives no reply. Yusuke rolls his eyes.


Yusuke- So the two of us are Dads now.. Time is a funny b----, isn’t it? But like you said, demon World is a lot more civilianized now.

Kurama- Civilized, Yusuke.


* Yusuke pockets his hands in his jacket then nudges Kurama with a shoulder as he smirks.


Yusuke- Yeah, I knew that.. I know you just enjoy correcting me.


* As they get closer to the others they see that Hiei has his arms crossed, clearly displaying his annoyance at having to wait on them.


Hiei- We need to make time, you two! Get you’re a---es in gear!


* He turns and takes off again with his group. Yusuke shakes his head as the two keep their same pace.


Yusuke- He’s sure a lot bossier now.

Kurama- He’s an Alpha, Yusuke.


* The Toushin looks up at him questioningly. Kurama sighs.


Kurama- I’ll explain it more as we travel. We’d best keep up.

Yusuke- Would be better if he could do that thing that Yomi does.

Kurama- Perhaps he’ll develop something with time. But his speed has increased greatly, we need to pick up our own pace right now.. See if you can keep up.


* Kurama takes off. Yusuke growls and gives chase, not wanting to be left behind.
