Chapter 2

Yusuke sat in Genkai’s living room, smiling at Kuwabara who was adamantly trying to catch Hiei and beat him into a pulp. He loved to watch his friends’ childish antics, and that day even more so then usual. Everyone was at the temple to say goodbye to Yusuke and Kurama.

Since the attack three weeks earlier, it became apparent just how much Yusuke needed to go to the makai. There were a couple of obvious reasons, such as Yusuke needing a mid-wife and doctor near by to help with the child, and for the small amount of strength the demon world would bring. Yusuke was in desperate need of strength, as the pregnancy and stress from the attack had taken a heavy toll on his body. As such, Kurama and Yusuke had decided to leave the next day for Yusuke’s inherited castle.

Another reason Yusuke was so weak, was that he couldn’t keep any food down, and it wasn’t from lack of trying either. He would eat anything, including the odd foods he craved, but almost nothing would stay down. The only thing he could eat right now was oatmeal with ketchup, brown sugar, and pickles. Everyone else in the room would just try and ignore what he was eating, even as their face’s turned slightly green.

Kurama sat beside Yusuke on the couch and said to him “I called the mid-wife Genkai’s friend recommended, and she’ll meet us tomorrow. Is that alright with you, love?”

“Sound great” Yusuke said tiredly. He was almost always tired now.

Kurama looked at his lover, and sensed how fatigued he was, and decided to cut the party short. He told everyone that they had some last-minute packing to do, even though everyone could tell just how tired Yusuke was.

Yusuke said goodbye to everyone, and unfortunately one of his mood swings hit full-force, making him teary and dramatic, especially while saying goodbye to Genkai and Kuwabara. He would have said goodbye to his mother, but she had already passed out on the floor.

Yusuke walked into his and Kurama’s bedroom, and stripped out of his cloths, and into more comfortable ones to sleep in. He stood there in a pair of sweats for a couple minutes, admiring his flat stomach. Well, not completely flat. For those that were extremely determined, a slight bump could be seen, and that made Yusuke happy. It made Kurama happy too, and as they lay in bed, Kurama placed his hand over Yusuke’s pooched belly, and whispered words of praise and encouragement to no one in particular. Yes, he knew it made him insane to be talking to himself, but he was going to be a father, and that was all that mattered to him.

The next day, Kurama and Yusuke slowly made their way out towards Puu, who was waiting patiently for them to leave. Yusuke turned to Kuwabara and Genkai, and once again said goodbye. He knew how hard it was going to be without the support of his friends, but Kurama was there was with him, so he knew it wouldn’t be catastrophic.

They tied their most important belongings to a combination of Puu’s feet and one of Yoko’s giant plant moth…things. That small amount of work took its toll on Yusuke’s weakened body, and Kurama had to help him climb onto Puu’s back. Yusuke began to nod off in Kurama’s strong arms as Puu took off in to the portal to demon world.

Yusuke was pulled out of his sleep from the feeling of Puu landing softly on makai soil. He looked up to see Hokoushin running towards them from the castle. “Lord Urameshi, we are glad you have returned.”

“Hey, baldie, how, many times have I asked you not to call me ‘Lord’?”

“Around 200.”

“Then don’t make me say it again!” Yusuke said, but good-naturedly. Now that he was on the demon plane, be could begin to feel some of his strength come back to him.

“Urameshi-san, why don’t you and Kurama-san go upstairs, and the other monks and I will bring your belongings up.” Yusuke nodded, before going with Kurama up the stairs. He was going to have to talk to Hokoushin about moving his room; he was already getting tired from climbing all the stairs, lord knew how bad it would be in 8 months.

Kurama and Yusuke finally made it to their master bedroom. Yusuke had every intent on helping Kurama unpack, but Kurama made him promise to rest at least for a little while, just long enough to gain some of the energy this plane had to give.

Yusuke lay staring at the ceiling, his hand absent-mindedly rubbing his belly while he was deep in thought. Kurama brought Yusuke some tea a couple minutes later that was supposed to help with morning sickness. The more Yusuke heard the phrase “morning sickness” the more he wanted to call bull shit. He even told Kurama once that it should have been called “it-lasts-all-day-so-you’re-just-fucked sickness”.

A little while after that, they heard a light wrapping on the door. Kurama opened it to reveal a demoness with dark blue hair and a matching scaly, tail and a mini-horn on her forehead. She wore black-rimmed, cat-eye glasses that hooked onto a pair of reptilian fish-like ears on both sides of her head. She wore a simple, comfortable outfit that showed just how athletic she was. As the two of them looked at her, they couldn’t help but think that they had seen someone like her before. Yusuke was, surprisingly, the first to put his finger on it, and said, “Hey, are you related to Juri, that fish-eared, bossy, referee?”

The demoness laughed loudly before saying “Yes, I am her older sister. My name Juroutanukichi, but for short, call me Juichi, as in the number. Anyway I would like to ask you some questions Yusuke. You are just over four months pregnant, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, then you are already in the 2nd trimester. Are you still suffering from morning sickness?”

“Yes.” Yusuke answered quickly and irritably.

“Well, don’t worry, that should go away soon, but you need to start eating more, I can already see that you should be a little heavier by now. There are a few more things that you should now. Around the 2nd trimester, you will start to feel a little stronger, and will want to get out and do a lot of things. While I’m not saying that you can’t do anything, I am saying that you need to take care of yourself, or you can harm you and your child. Anything else you think I should know?”

“No, that just about covers it.”

“Okay Yusuke, can you lay down on the bed for me and lift you’re shirt, I need to take a quick feel to see what going on in there.”

“Okay.” Yusuke said, doing what he was requested to do, and let the demon feel on his stomach. It felt unnatural for someone to feel on him though, and he couldn’t help but blush slightly. Even though he wouldn’t admit it, part of him, admittedly, the street side, thought it extremely odd for a man to be pregnant. Especially for him to be pregnant. Juichi felt lightly around the bulge of Yusuke’s stomach, and pressing down slightly every couple inches. This went on for a couple minutes until she reached her verdict. She looked up at Yusuke and helped him pull down his shirt before telling him what she had found.

“I think that everything is going well, although I can lightly see you’re ribs, so I will be leaving you with a list of foods that will help you gain wait. You’re abdomen is growing at a steady rate, although it will grow a lot quicker from here on, but I think that they are doing just fine.”

“Oh good” Yusuke said, than suddenly yelled “What! They?”

“Yes, didn’t anyone tell you that you’re carrying triplets?”

“Tripl… what… I… NO!” Yusuke managed to say.

“Oh, well, you’re having triplets.”

“I am leaving you with some seeds for you to put in you’re tea and food that will help with the morning sickness. I am also leaving you with a book that explains male pregnancies, and what to expect along with one piece of strict advice. I need to make sure you hear this, it’s very important. Now that you are carrying triplets, you do not have extra energy, so all your spirit and demonic energies will be taken up by those little guys. If you are ever in a difficult situation, do not use your powers unless you absolutely have to, to do so could harm you and your children. I have to leave you two for now, but it was a pleasure to meet you, and I will see you sometime within the next two weeks.”

“Yes it was nice meeting you Juichi.” Said a still some-what dazed Yusuke as the demoness walked out of their room.

Yusuke’s rubbed his stomach while looking at Kurama and said “Triplets. We are going to have three children Kurama, three children.”

Over the next couple of weeks, Yusuke’s strength began to pick up. Kurama and Yusuke had moved into one of the rooms on the first floor so Yusuke could keep up his strength. His morning sickness was starting to get better, but his stomach had really begun to ache. With the triplets beginning to grow, his stomach was beginning to round slightly, which made Yusuke both happy, and upset.

He didn’t like the way everybody fussed over him. A week before, they had a small party for Yusuke’s makai friends to tell them the news. Everybody was happy for him and insisted that he not do anything. He tried to bring out some food, and Chu grabbed it from him and made him sit down. It was things like that, that made Yusuke pissed. He wasn’t weak, he wasn’t dependent, and he didn’t need everything done for him.

He was currently hiding from Kurama and the monk brigade, and was sitting on the roof of part of the castle. He over-looked the land that had once belonged to him, thinking back to how things used to be. When he was still strong, when he was still human, when Keiko… was still alive.

Recently, when he thought of her, he almost burst into tears. He could never forget the way she had died in the subway bombing. It was such an impersonal death, and one that she had never deserved. He couldn’t help but feel slightly guilty by having children now. When they were married, they had always discussed having children, but it was never the right time for it until it was too late. It had taken over three years after her death until Kurama could finally help Yusuke let go, but now it was all coming back.

He could feel Kurama walk up towards the roof, and heard him sigh when he saw Yusuke. He could see the tear rolling down his cheek silently, and knew he was thinking of Keiko. He felt a pang of jealousy towards the girl that stole his lover’s heart and smashed it. He immediately felt horrible for thinking such things. He slowly walked behind his lover, and held him.

“Thinking about Keiko again?” He asked.

“…Yeah.”

“You know that she would be happy for you, right?”

“I guess, it’s just not fare to her.”

“I know, love, I know.”

They sat in silence for a while until Kurama said quietly, “Yusuke, why don’t we get off this roof, you’re going to make Hokoushin give birth to a canary if you continue to run away.”

“Well, at least I won’t be the only one giving birth.” Yusuke said with a grin. They got up slowly, and they walked down off Yusuke’s hiding place.

Later on that night, Yusuke was sleeping soundly, curled up next to Kurama. Kurama was quietly rereading the book that Juichi had given them, and letting his thoughts wander around lightly. He was filled with worry for Yusuke as he thought of the threats described in the book. The most prevalent threat in his mind was the demon snatchers. They were demons that targeted pregnant beings and stole the soul of the unborn child. They were rare, but one of there favorite foods were fetuses being carried by males. Kurama couldn’t help but worry about what could happen when Yusuke was on the roof. What if one of the demons came by and stole their children? He sighed and put the book down. He looked at his clock, the numbers indicated that it was past 11.

He leaned over and turned off the lamp, pulling himself under the covers. He snuggled next to the warm body of his lover, and wrapped and arm around his waist, his hand resting lightly on Yusuke’s abdomen. As he drifted to sleep, he could lightly feel the baby move through Yusuke’s skin.

Yusuke had extreme mixed emotions the next day. The babies had moved for the first time the night before, which made him and Kurama extremely excited, however, that day was also the anniversary of his “fathers” death. Every year he went to his grave alone, and this year was going to be no different if he had a say in it.

“Hey, Kurama,” Yusuke said, looking at the ground “Um, today is Raizen’s death day, and I always go to visit that old bastards grave. Um, it’s kind of a personal thing, and I always go along, so, can I please go again? I’ll bring Puu with me, so I’ll have at least a little protection, please?”

“No.” Kurama said coolly.

“Oh come on ya damn fox! I really need this! I’ll have Puu with me, so that’s at least something, and I am a former makai lord!”

“Yusuke, you are now five months pregnant, we can’t take any unnecessary risks.”

“I’m not at risk! I just want to go visit my dead father’s grave! Imagine your mother died, and someone said you couldn’t go visit her grave. How would you feel?”

“Don’t even compare Raizen to my mother. I’ve always known her, you only knew Raizen for a year, and he wasn’t even you’re real father!” Kurama snapped, his anger getting the best of him for once.

Yusuke was taken aback for a minute, before he burst into tears, and stalked out of the room. He couldn’t believe Kurama. Yes he only knew Raizen for a year, and yes he was actually his 41st great-grandfather, but he was the only person he ever considered his father. There was no way in hell that Yusuke wasn’t going to see Raizen. He didn’t need to get Kurama’s permission; he was an adult and could take care of himself. He stormed out of the castle and with Puu by his side, and made his way towards Raizen’s grave.

Yusuke had been fuming at Raizen’s grave for almost an hour. He was ranting at his dead father, before calming down. He was craving a cigarette, and was pissed that he was forbidden from having one. As he continued to yell at no one in particular, he began to calm down; after all, he didn’t want to upset his children. Finally he looked at the stone marker and said “hey, ya bastard, what do you think about this situation. Do ya think that… I’m too weak? Are you, ashamed, or are you happy? I wish I could have gotten your approval on this.”

He felt a demonic presence getting closer and turned to see one of the monk brigade, Tousen, running towards him. He was about to cuss him out for following him, when in the corner of his eye he saw a shadow quickly dart towards him. He put his arms in a defensive position, and felt himself get clawed from his shoulder all the way down his arm. The creature swooped back for the final attack on Yusuke. There was no way he could dodge, this was it. He closed his eyes and prayed.

Suddenly he felt himself get splattered with liquid, and a loud crunching noise could be heard. He looked up to see Tousen standing in front of him, arms outstretched to take the blow. Yusuke stared in awe as the body fell in slow-mo in front of him, hitting the ground gasping at his feet. The demon looked from the gasping Tousen to Yusuke with its blood-red eyes before charging towards Yusuke. Only this time, Puu attacked the beast at just the right angle, and snapped its neck.

Puu gently picked up Tousen, and Yusuke and flew quickly back to the castle. Yusuke was beginning to feel cold, and he could feel himself sweating and shaking slightly. By the time they were at the castle, Yusuke was almost entirely passed out. He fell into Kurama’s arms off of Puu’s back, and the last thing that Yusuke heard before going under was someone yelling to get Juichi, that Yusuke had been poisoned.

Sorry for the cliffie guys, but I just had to be evil! Hopefully I'll post the new chapter sometime nest week. Hope you guys like it. Review!
