Chapter Two

"Dammit, hurry up Kurama." Yusuke was standing by the door, keeping an eye out. There was little chance of anyone coming down but it was better to be safe than in jail. It was after two a.m. not many people were walking about in the place. They had located the records room in the basement. There was a single desk in the cramped space. Seemed they had put all the records on file in the computer some years back.

Breaking in had been easy, so was getting past the alarm and lock. Yusuke never had any doubt that Kurama would be able to do it. He was now looking through the files trying to see what he could find. Kurama sighed when he found what he was looking for, "Here is the file for your mother."

Yusuke walked over to the desk keeping his senses alert. "Anything that will help?"

Kurama searched it over, looking for information about the birth. "Here, look. See this here, it shows the list of medication your mother recieved. Seemed she had a difficult labor, then this is the information on the birth. They don't have much in here, okay here is your information. Damn Yusuke no wonder she had trouble. You were a huge baby."

"Eat shit man."

Kurama laughed at him, "I'll pass, I've had your cooking before. Here is the information on your sister, taken minutes after the birth. Something isn't right, their different. The measurements are off from the next time she was examined. If these measurements are right then not only did she grow an inch but she gained four ounces overnight. I don't think that is possible for a newborn."

"So what do you think?"

"Honestly Yusuke? I believe that she was either switched on accident or on purpose. Someone could have gotten them mixed up on accident. From the records there was a lot of babies born within that week. My guess your real sister went home with another family."

"Can you find out which one from here?" He knew he was asking alot but if it was possible that he had a sister out there then he'd want to know.

"No, theres so many of them. Theres no way for us to know which family she went to. It would take time to narrow it down, time we don't have. We could always question the nurse that was in charge of her during that time, her name is down here. Hojo Naome, give me a second and I'll look up her employee records." It took several more minutes for him to find what he was looking for. "Okay, she no longer works here but I have an address on her."

"Good, that will work. Somehow I doubt she'll be too much help though. Not like she's going to admit that she made a mistake." Yusuke grabbed the paper out of Kurama's hands. "Let's go."

They made their way out of the basement only to be met by Hiei walking down the hall. He had a large smirk on his face as he walked their way. Yusuke sighed knowing the man would be curious. "What's up Hiei?"

"I should ask you two. Mind explaining what you two are doing breaking into a hospita?" He looked both of them over, his eyes landing on Kurama.

"It's personal." Yusuke wasn't sure if he wanted to tell him what was going on.

"Maybe we should tell him Yusuke, he might be able to help after all. If what we believe is true, he could help us locate her. Besides he knows what it's like to look for a lost sibling." Kurama smiled when the shorter man glared at him. "Let's get out of here and find a place where we can talk in private."

"I say we go in there and demand some damn answers." Yusuke shouted to no one in particular.

"Think Yusuke, if she doesn't know anything our trip will be pointless except to harrass an innocent person. If she did it on accident then she's not likely to admit it. If she did it on purpose she definitely won't admit to it. I say we let Hiei go in and search her mind for whatever answers he can find." Kurama looked at the large house in front of them. The three were standing outside of the address that had been given. It was still the Hojo residence, the woman should still be inside. "Find what we need to know without causing any problems. I'm sure Hiei is more than willing to help, right?"

"Hn." Hiei examined the house, he could sense only three people inside. Two males and one female, all humans. "They are asleep, give me a few minutes and I'll return with your answers detective."

Yusuke sat on the ground and watched him leave, "Fine but I hate waiting. What am I going to do when I find out what happened to her?"

Kurama sat down beside him, not sure how to answer. "We will go with you to find her. I say we find her first and see how she is. You can decide what you wish to do after that. First, you will need to know who she is." He could sense that Hiei was now in the bedroom with the woman. Hopefully he would come back with some news that wouldn't upset their friend. He could only imagine what Yusuke was feeling. But it did explain a few things about his life and his mother. The woman had probably started drinking right after the loss of her child. No doubt she hadn't been able to live with the loss of one of her children.

They sat for several more minutes before Hiei finally appeared before them once more with a scowl on his face. Yusuke jumped up, "What did you find out?"

"Hn, she's lucky there is a law against killing humans. Even if she thought she was being noble, she did the unthinkable." Hiei looked up at the room, "Seems her friend had been trying to have a child for sometime and finally gave birth to a girl. It so happens it was the same night your mother gave birth to twins. She was the nurse put in charge of your mother and the other woman. Right after the one girl was born she noticed signs of the child being seriously ill. Not wanting her friend to deal with the loss of the child she had wanted for so long; she swapped them. Your real sister went to the other lady, while your mother was given the dying child. Both women had a difficult time during labor so neither got to lay their eyes on the children they bore until the next day. By then the switch had been made. Your mother never knew what happened, no one questioned it since she was also the headnurse at the time."

"Did you get the woman's name?" Yusuke had his hands clenched at his side trying to contain his anger. That woman had taken his sister, gave her to someone else. Not to mention his mom was now a lush. She'd always been a drunk for as long as he could remember. That woman had probably caused it by letting Atsuko believe her daughter had died.

"Hmph, I got better. I have the girl's name. Seems the woman's son has a huge crush on the girl in question. He is to meet her friends later today in hopes that the girl will show as well."

Kurama nodded, "I say we follow him and see if the girl shows."
