Mourning and Marriage
Sora asked me to add on to it, so here's the last part. I had the idea for it, but didn't know if it was a good way to end. If you don't like, I do apologize.

Second Shot: Mourning
*****
The wind was cool as it whipped around the redhead, blowing his hair and gray jacket about. The sky was cloudy though the sun shinned though brilliantly, a few more tears trickled down the pale cheek before a dark figure suddenly appeared next to the sad man. Exactly one year ago from this date, a life was lost and the next day a promise of love was made.
The crimson rose was lifted to full, soft lips before being placed on the headstone.
*****
An entire year… and we were still together… the forbidden child… in love, no, that wasn’t the miracle. The truly amazing phenomenon was that I was loved in return. I could see that my fox was still grieving over the loss of his human mother, but there were just a few tears compared to the heavy sobs, which had oddly enough brought us together.
“One more year, Hiei,” his soft voice was carried on the wind to my ear, “Just one more year, and I swear I’ll be ready to go back to the Makai with you.”
“What is one year compared to the demon life time we have together?” I hold his soft hand in reassurance. Actually I would live out my entire demon life here in this pathetic world if it mean I can be with him.
*****
It amazes me how much more outgoing Hiei has become. Just the slightest touch would send him hiding in the highest branch before, but now here we stood with him initiating the physical contact, or maybe he just knows how much I need it.
“Let’s go back to the apartment,” I tug at the rough, callused hand, and we head back to what has become home to us. My step father never forgave me for sleeping with Hiei after mother’s accident. His suspicions were correct, but not from that night, and not for months and months after Hiei and I moved into the apartment. It was nice with just the two of us. There were very fond moments that I wouldn’t trade anything for.
At night we would share the western style bed I had bought with my inheritance from mother along with a small, but suitable apartment.
I kiss Hiei on the cheek, “Thank you for coming with me. I’m sure my mother appreciates it.”
“Hn,” Hiei nodded curtly, tightening his hold on my hand.
*****
“It’s been a long day,” he sighs out exhausted, actually it hadn’t, it’s barely past noon, but it was emotionally draining to see that his step father had visited the gravesite to offer a dozen white lilies. “Mmm…” he groans as I sprawl out on one edge of the couch, leading him into my lap. He wraps his arms around my waist, resting his head on my shoulder and letting his legs take up the rest of the couch. He always loves just laying on me, resting his ear over my heart. I guess it calms him in some way.
We sit like this for about an hour before Kurama gets up to use the bathroom… More than likely, he’s crying again. He doesn’t like when I see him like that. He knows that I see it as a weakness, but I could never see him as weak or pathetic… it would probably make things a lot easier if I could. I’ve never felt this before, and I feel so confused, even after a year I still felt a little awkward in certain situations, like when he tries to hold my hand in front of the detective and the fool, but especially Yukina.
I guess he actually had to go, I smirk to myself as I hear the toilet flush, he’s stopped bothering to hide the fact that he was crying long ago. I sit up completely and pull him into my lap the second he is within reach, and rest my head on his back, encircling his thin waist.
“Feel better?”
“Yes, I guess the coffee went straight through me,” he chuckled softly, running his hands over my arms.
“You know what I mean.”
“Yes, I’m feeling much better, Hiei, thank you,” he slides off of my lap to sit next to me on the couch. I can still see the small trails of tears, so I wipe them away with my thumb.
*****
“Are you hungry?” Hiei’s ruby eyes look into mine with concern. I never thought that I could love someone this much.
“Are you going to make your specialty? Instant Ramen?” I chuckle softly.
“If that’s what you want. We can always order in.”
“Ramen is fine.”
“Okay,” he gives me one last kiss before going into the kitchen.
I owe him so much. Hiei is probably the only reason that I haven’t gone completely insane. Yes Yusuke and Kuwabara can prove to be interesting distractions from this sadness, but Hiei… his aura alone seems to heal me. It is odd how long I have been in mourning, but it must have to do with the first person that I’ve cared about to have died other than Kuronue, and that had led to my first death. I think that’s what Hiei’s worried about. He’s so sweet sometimes…
“Here,” he hands me a cup with a set of chopsticks.
“Thank you,” I give him a chaste kiss on the cheek for his troubles. I know what he’s thinking from the lightest tinge of a blush that only I would notice.
*****
I have to learn to cook real food. If ramen can get me a kiss… what would a full course meal get me?
*****
The two ate quietly, leaning against one another. When they finished, the couple went for a long, relaxing walk. Kurama held Hiei’s hand tightly, enjoying the clean scent of fresh rain that was starting to fall… Hiei on the other hand had picked up the pace a little. He never liked rain.
“Let’s go over there, Hiei,” Kurama draped an arm over his short lover and led him to a weeping willow, “Is this better?” he opened his jacket so Hiei could hide between the folds.
“Yeah,” Hiei murmured, he loved being pressed against Kurama's muscled warmth as much as possible.
“Just a few feet over there…” Kurama nodded to the path, “that’s where we had our first kiss.”
“And a few blocks that way and up two flights of stairs is where we first had…”
“Hiei,” he placed a finger over the thin lips, “you’re ruining the moment.”
“Hn,” Hiei smirked, taking the finger into his mouth, nipping at the flesh with his sharp teeth lightly.
“Hm,” Kurama hummed, leaning in closer, kissing Hiei’s cheek before slipping his finger from the tender lips, and claiming them with his own, “You’re so cute when you’re horny,” he chuckled.
“Kurama…” Hiei murmured, “I… I made this for our anniversary.”
“Oh my,” he smiled sweetly at the tear gem that was now mounted on a silver chain, “I love it.”
“Hn,” he tenderly kissed the point where the jewel rested on Kurama's chest.
“Mm, let’s go home, I have plans for us.”
Hiei smirked, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, no, sweetie, that’s for later tonight.”
“Hn,” the smirk got bigger.
*****
It had taken almost half a year for Hiei to stop flinching when I try to touch him, but now he’s the one that usually glomps on to me, but not when anyone else is around of course. He’s become very happy with touching and being touched now that he’s experienced physical pleasure.
His lips are on me again, he does it so often now, and I couldn’t be happier as I return the kiss. I think we had managed three steps into the door, which is the furthest in a long time before he attacks me.
“Mm,” I can’t help but groan as he slides his tongue over and between my lips, waiting patiently for me to open up. I tease him for a minute, not opening up for a little bit, and I feel his frustration as he gropes me suddenly in hopes of my acceptance. I giggle softly before letting him in, and he relaxes. He’s still afraid that one of these days I will reject him. Yet I could never say no to him. If he actually asked me to go back to the Makai, I would freely go. I just don’t feel that the time is right to leave this world. I need to find closure from my mother’s accident.
Rough hands are suddenly up my shirt, grasping at my chest.
“Hiei, you’re moving rather fast tonight, hm?”
“Want you,” he mumbles into my mouth as he kisses me deeply again.
“Want you, too,” I laugh as he pushes me into the couch, straddling my thighs suddenly, “But later, love, later.”
“Hn,” he huffed as he settled back, completely on the floor.
“Wait right here,” I leave a nipping kiss on his cheek.
*****
I don’t know what he’s doing, but he’d better make it quick.
“Happy anniversary,” long, lithe arms wrap around my chest.
“I get a hug? I can work with that,” I smile turning to face him.
“No, silly,” he kisses me softly. His lips are so full, “This is for you,” he holds up a silver ring, it is a simple band with three deep crimson stones in a row, dragon heads are etched on either side of the end rubies, their mouth entrapping the gems.
“What is it?”
“Hiei,” he is suddenly on his knee, “will you marry me?”
“Marry? Like in life mate?”
“Yes,” he held my left hand.
“…” I stare at the slim fingers, barely able to make a sound so I manage a nod, and he slides the ring on to my finger.
“You and me, bound forever,” his smile is absolutely gorgeous as he raises to kiss me fully on the lips. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” I haven’t said it very often, but I’ve been able to mumble it on special occasions, and this is one of them.
“One more year, and we’ll live in the Makai, and be free to do whatever we want.”
“I know something we can do while we’re still here,” I smirk, pulling him to the bedroom, and close the door behind us.
*****
There it is! What do you think? Cheesy, ne? Oh, well, that's how the story goes, and I'm sure I skipped out on a lot of detail I meant to put in here, I'll put them in when I think of them.
