CHAPTER TWO

"Hey! Are you okay?" The girl in green school girl outfit asked.

"Maybe it's dead..." The one in red with dog ears spoke.

"Shut up Inuyasha! It's still breathing, barely."

"Look Kagome, we're following Kagura's scent. We can't just stop!"

"We can't leave him like this!"

"Him?!" The monk appeared shocked, "I thought..." He made a face and sighed.

"It's a him Miroku. And...Kagome. I think I know what's wrong with him." A girl with a hiraikotsu spoke.

"What is it Sango?"

"Shippo? Do you feel strange at all?" She asked the small child Kitsune.

"Actually I am kinda dizzy."

"Just as I thought. He's a fox demon as well, and this forest is laced with Foxbane. With prolonged exposure to it's scent, a Kitsune could be killed."

"Oh no, who would do this?!" Kagome was upset.

"Naraku has to be linked. Maybe they wanted to kidnap Shippo?" Miroku asked.

"Feh, probably." Inuyasha turned his back to them, "Huh?" His ears flicked when he heard footsteps.
"Smells like humans, and a demon." He growled gripping Tetsusaiga.

"What?!" Yusuke looked ahead to see the motley group and Yoko on the ground.
"What did you do to Kurama?!" He sped forward.

"Wait! Please...do you mean him?" Kagome slid in the middle.

"Yes. He's our friend, now what did you do to him?"

"Wow he's got ears to! But...you three look human...ahhkh...is that a cat and a cat boy?" Kuwabara backed up.

"I'm a fox damnit!" Shippo yelled. Kuwabara was now petting Kirara lovingly, not listening.

"Look, we are just travelers as I assume you three are. We were going through this forest after a woman who has wronged us all, when we found your friend lying here." Miroku calmly explained, scanning the three.

"We didn't hurt him but this forest is loaded with a plant that is fatal to Kitsune's. Your friend and ours will die if we don't get out soon." Sango worriedly tried to hurry them.

"What? Then hurry! Where do we go?" Yusuke ran to Yoko.

"We?" Inuyasha raised an annoyed eyebrow.

"Inuyasha...SIT! Please, follow us to Kaede's Village. He will be safe there." Kagome said smiling, Inuyasha buried face first into the ground.

"Great, thanks." Yusuke and Sango put Yoko on Kirara's back. They quickly exited.

"So, Koenma still exists in the modern world as well?" Kaede, the old woman with the patch over her eye laughed.

"Yeah. We have been sent to find out who is manipulating this well." Yusuke spoke with some manners.

"Aye, normally I watch over it. Kagome passes thru but only because of the jewel shard."

"Shard?"

"The relic yea spoke of."

"Oh so that's what it is."

"What's important is that usually unless one has pure intentions they cannot pass. But since last month all sorts of things are leaving through it. Youkai."

"Who can you think of that would do that?"

"There is only one. A hanyou demon conglomerate by the name of Naraku."

"Wait hag, your saying Naraku is alive here?!" Hiei stood up.

"Oh, and how does yea know of him?"

"He's demon worlds oldest #1 Most Wanted. People said he was 1000's of years old but no one had proof."

"Sounds like you got proof now." Kuwabara spoke, Hiei nodded.

"Keh, we've been searching for Naraku for years. He takes off parts of his body and creates other demons. So the coward never dirties his own hands." Inuyasha snorted.

"Great..." Yusuke said sarcastically.

"If Naraku is controlling this well we may be screwed. Spirit World hasn't been able to catch him ever, and they're an army." Hiei said grimly.

"We don't have a choice." Kagome said. " Yusuke-kun's right. If those demons get loose, it's my world too Inuyasha." She glanced at him.

"Don't forget me, it's my world too!" Kuwabara burst out.

"Ahem...excuse me." Sango entered the hut, now in street clothes.

"Yes Sango?" Kaede looked up.

"Your friend is stable now. He should wake up soon. Shippo and Miroku went to get some medicinal herbs and water." She sat next to Inuyasha.

"That's great, thank you all again. For this. We don't mean to just bust in." Yusuke rubbed the back of his head and smiled.

"No problem! Besides we need all the help we can get to save the modern world." Kagome smiled back.

"Its strange, we usually never have help. It's just been us four." Kuwabara was determined to be in the conversation. He caught the Demon Slayer girl staring at him, and blushed returning to petting Kirara. The mika cat had taken a fancy to the red head.

"Help or not, Naraku will not go down easily. We can't even find him. His castle is hidden with spells." Inuyasha said.

"Wait a minute, the woman you all were chasing, could she have planted all the Foxbane?" Yusuke looked at the hanyou.

"Most likely. She's an incarnation of Naraku, a wind socceress."

"Man, this missions getting weirder and weirder." Yusuke sighed. "Hey, where are you going?" he turned to see Hiei at the door.

"I'll be on the roof. Its a little too crowded in here for me." He flashed away.

"Humph, sounds like someone I know..." Kagome elbowed Inuyasha in the ribs.

"He's a good guy under all that leather." Yusuke got up. "I'm gonna go check on Kurama."

"Wait! Urameshi, don't leave me here!" Kuwabara looked up in panic. "...uh..not..that you g-guys are weird or anything...heh..heh." He smiled embarrassed as Inuyasha and Kaede gave him the evil eye.
