~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chapter 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FLASHBACK
On the floor, young Youko lay bleeding and covered in bruises. His mother was in the next room hiding. She sobbed uncontrollably, listening to her son's screams of pain.
Youko's father had come home drunk again. To say that Youko's father was a violent drunk would have been an understatement. He yelled, hit, kicked, and
he didn't care who he hurt. To protect his seven
month pregnant mother, Youko purposely made his father angry.
While Youko's father was buttoning his pants he gave one lest kick to the boy's chest and walked out the door. When she was sure he was gone, Youko's mother
hurried in to check on her son. Just the sight of him sent her into sobs again.
Bruises were covering his little body and there was a large pool of blood beneath his hips. She fell to her knees beside him and sobbed harder. Carefully,
slowly, and painfully, Youko leaned forward and kissed
her swollen belly. He gazed up at his mother and whispered," I will protect you, mother. I will protect you both."
THREE WEEKS LATER
Youko watched his mother. She was panting hard. Once again, Youko’s father had come home drunk and started to yell at his mother. Youko tried to stop his
father, but he was thrown into a wall. Black dots came
across his vision and he lost conscious.
When he woke up, he found his mother on the floor, bruised, and gasping in pain. She was in labor and a little over a month early. She wouldn't survive.
A short while later, Youko stood at the end of the bed, holding his two-sizes-too-small newborn brother. He named him Ryoukai; Ryou for short. Their father
would be back soon... What would he do to the helpless, newborn baby?
Scared for his brother, Youko packed up what little they had and left. Youko ran as far as he could, his brother held close to his chest. Maybe he would have
ran farther, but a beautiful voice in the woods caught
his attention.
Tired and dazed, he stumbled in the direction of the voice until he reached a small clearing. In the clearing, sitting on the soft green grass, was the
most gorgeous woman Youko had ever layed eyes on. She
had long, soft light blue hair, sapphire eyes, and porcelain skin. In her arms was a little boy with the
same light blue hair, soft pink eyes, and porcelain skin.
Ryou let out a little wail. Looking, Youko realized that Ryou was probably hungry, but there was nothing to feed him. Trying to shush and comfort the baby,
Youko didn't notice the women come up to him. Startled, he stumbled away from her.
"What's wrong with the child?"
Youko sighed," I think he's hungry." Ryou wailed again.
The women put her hand on Youko's shoulder," Where's your mother?"
Taking a deep breath, Youko began to tell his story,"
You see, father..."
By the end of the story, the woman was crying. Maternal nature must have over-come her, because she took them home with her. She said she could help feed
the baby, ad give them a place to stay.
She introduced them to her husband, but she did not see the spark that came to his eyes when he saw Youko.
