Sake is Evil

(AN: Yes yes, I know they don't have quaters in Japan, I'm too lazy to look up the proper names. x.x Gomen.)

Chapter 2

Sake is Evil

Hiei scowled the whole way down the long hall to Yusuke’s front door. For some reason, elevators bothered him. Kurama winced and prayed to Inari that the night out would go well. Kurama knocked on the door twice, then waited. After a few minutes Hiei got tired of waiting so He punched the door once, hard enough to make the whole thing shake, a small dent forming where he punched.

“Heeeey! Take it easy on my house alright, I said I was coming.” Yusuke grumbled as he jerked open the door, gesturing for them to come inside. “So what do you want to drink?” The spirit detective asked while Kurama and Hiei removed their shoes, his voice suspiciously slurred. Quiet laughter sounded from the adjoining room, along with the sound of glasses chiming together.

“Hn, anything would be better than what you’re drinking, especially if it makes you smell that bad.” The fired demon sneered at Yusuke.

“Gah, but that’s no fun.” The spirit detective left the two and went back to the party. As Yusuke walked he held up a hand to his mouth to check his breath. He instantly jerked his head back, shaking it. “Blehk...”

Hiei shot Kurama a dark look. “You owe me Kurama.”

Kurama sighed as he removed his coat. “Thanks for staying.”

“Come on you guys!” Kuwabara yelled from the other room. “You’re not making out are you?” He said with a snicker.

The two demons looked at each other. Kurama sighed as Hiei crossed his arms over his chest and stalked away. “This is going to be a long night...”

“Like you weren’t stupid when you’re sober, why drink something that lowers your intelligence to zero?” The jaganshi shot back at Kuwabara.

All Kurama could hear as he walked to the room was Kuwabara growling and the rest of their friends laughing. One voice caught his attention. Was Genkai really here?

Sure enough the older woman was seated on the floor, leaning against the wall and sipping a steaming cup. She looked up when he entered and nodded a greeting, Kurama smiling back at her.

“So Kurama, hot sake or cold sake?” Keiko held up two bottles. The kitsune was surprised that she was lending a helping hand in all of this.

“Neither, thanks.”

“Oh come on!” Yusuke said. “Live a little.”

“Hey short shit, ever hear of quarters?” Kuwabara smiled as he leaned forward.

“No.”

“Good, then you can play.”

“Play what?”

Kuwabara sighed. “Quarters.”

“No.”

“Chicken. Chiiickeeeen... Ow..” He smacked along the back of his head by his sister, who paused only to smiled at Kurama and Hiei then took a seat near Botan and Keiko. The drunk Kuwabara continued on as if his sister hadn’t hit him. “And here I thought you’d be the only one here that’d be winning. But nooo, you’re to chicken shit to play.” Kuwabara stood up, almost falling over as he bumped into a giggling Botan. “It’s alright to fear the great Kuwabara!”

“How can I be afraid to play something I’ve never heard of?”

The orange haired youth sat down heavily as Yusuke laughed. “Alright Hiei, here’s the deal.” Yusuke proceeded to explain the American drinking game to the red eyed demon.

“Hn, it’s easy. A moron could do it in his sleep.” Hiei snickered as he took up a quarter.

“You playing Kurama?” The spirit detective asked.

Against his better judgement Kurama agreed and sat down around the table with the rest of the group. The game went on for hours, Hiei winning most of the rounds. Kurama was fed up with losing so he yawned a few times then excused himself.

“It’s getting late, and I should be getting home.” Much to his disgust Kurama stumbled as he got up.

“I dunno, you’re really in no shape to wallllk home by yer self.” Kuwabara said, slurring his words.

“I’ll do it, this game is boring anyways.” The jaganshi said as he rose to his feet. He didn’t stumble or waver, testament to the fact that he had only lost the drinking game twice the whole night.

“Good night Hiei, night Kurama.” Yusuke said sleepily. The others waved as the demons left, both stopping to collect their shoes then walk out the door.

~oOo~

The long walk back to the kitsune’s house was a long and silent one. After stumbling a few times on rocks he didn’t see, Hiei slid his arm around Kurama’s waist and brought Kurama’s arm across his own shoulders to steady the poor drunken kitsune. Kurama both cursed and enjoyed this simple touch. It was something he shouldn’t enjoy, he shouldn’t hit on his friends, especially someone who was more like what humans call best friends than anyone else.

By the time they had ended up at Kurama’s home, he was almost shaking with need. As has done before, Kurama took a deep breath in and concentrated on quieting the little nagging part of him, the part that wanted Hiei and the part that was more than likely the youko in him.

Quietly as can be, Kurama unlocked and opened his front door, making sure his mother wasn’t waiting up for him. Hiei had yet to let go of him, so Kurama resigned himself to spending more time on ignoring his feelings. Once safely behind the door to his room, he locked it. Then stumbled over to the bed, Hiei still supporting him.

For one brief moment, the kitsune in him won out. While he could have let go of Hiei and laid on the bed, Kurama firmly pulled the fire demon along with him. Encouraged by Hiei’s silence, the kitsune rolled onto his side and propped himself up on one elbow. The jaganshi had his eyes closed, reveling in the softness of Kurama’s bed compared to his usual spot in a near by tree. A few strands of Kurama’s long red hair hung over Hiei’s face, so the kitsune brushed them aside. The contact instantly brought Hiei out of his sleepy thoughts. He narrowed his eyes at the kitsune, not knowing what he was up to.

If it was the liquor, old feelings come to surface, or just the pure beauty of the little demon’s ruby eyes shining in the moonlight, Kurama couldn’t resist leaning down and stealing a kiss. First he brushed his lips over the jaganshi’s barest of all caresses, then pressed his soft lips against the surprised demon.

Hiei froze, not at all used to this sort of contact from anyone. An unidentified feeling welled up in him. It wasn’t unpleasant, the kiss or the weird feeling, so Hiei lazily raised his hand to Kurama’s cheek instead of pushing him away.

Now it was the kitsune’s turn to be surprised. He never thought Hiei would react so... invitingly. He didn’t want to push his luck though, at least not yet, so the red head slowly lifted his lips away from Hiei’s warm ones. Kurama kissed him at the spot right between his eyes then shifted so he was sitting up on the bed. Slowly, fully aware that the sake made him off balanced, he rose to his feet. Hiei sat up, looking a little guilty. Neither spoke as Kurama removed his shirt and jeans but kept his boxers on, deciding that trying to bend over and struggle into his pajamas on was unrealistic. Hiei just watched, not batting an eyelash as the kitsune stripped down. A slight hint of color rose to Kurama’s cheeks as he crawled into bed and under his warm sheets.

“Good night.” Hiei mumbled as he got to his feet and walked towards the window. It slid open easily, letting in a chilled breeze that made the half naked kitsune shiver.

“Good night...” Kurama said as he snuggled down under his sheets, turning to face the jaganshi just as he jumped through the window and slid it back down. The red head didn’t know what to think, or what to do. It all came down to two choices, either he could apologize to Hiei in the morning, or he could take it a little further than just a simple kiss. The last option made him smile, and started off a nice dream of romping kitsunes and three eyed demons.
