Scene 18 ----------- Later That Day
* Sarista comes out of the main cave. She notices Hiei swinging in the vine hammock off to one side. After studying him a moment she becomes intrigued with his demeanor. Having known him so long now she’s seen him in many different facets of his usually confident manner. But this is the first time she’s really felt such confusion and dread overwhelming him. Hiei is so distracted that he doesn’t even notice Sarista approaching. When she finally touches his shoulder he jolts and looks up at her.
Sarista- Easy, it’s just me.
* Hiei sighs and relaxes.
Hiei- Hn.. How are ‘Tara and her baby?
Sarista- They’re doing fine, Babe.. What’s wrong? Having second thoughts?
Hiei- Concerning..?
Sarista- Ooshama, maybe?
* Hiei grunts and looks away.
Hiei- H--- no.. He’s coming to his death.
* Sarista sits down on the hammock beside him.
Sarista- Well, you’re certainly regretting something.. Is it.. us?
* Hiei looks back up into her worried red eyes. He lays his warded arm over to wrap it around her waist.
Hiei- No.. I put that conflict far behind me.
* Sarista smirks with a little relief.
Sarista- We’re all glad that you stayed, ya know.
* Hiei lets a slight smile touch his lips. Sarista reaches out to caress his cheek.
Sarista- You’ve.. changed some.. since you’ve come here.
Hiei- Hn. I’ve grown soft.. and fat.. and lazy.
Sarista- Soft? Not hardly. Fat? Give me a break.. Lazy?
Hiei- Hn. I should have continued your training by now.. The boys are nearly independent now.
* Hiei looks toward the newly-installed sand patch where Sarista’s twins are throwing sandballs at each other.
Sarista- you know that neither of them are bearers, don’t you?
Hiei- Hn. Lucky them.
* Sarista looks toward her sons nodding.
Sarista- Indeed they are.. Gamock would have had them sold by now.
* Hiei shifts his eyes and notices River sitting alone under a nearby tree. She seems to sense his attention and glances toward him. He scowls when he feels the spike of jealousy radiate from her.
(#) Hiei- ‘Ris,.. when I.. marked River.. it’s done something to her.
* Sarista looks toward the little girl. River looks away with a childish ‘hmph’.
Sarista(Quietly)- Hai.. I guess I should’ve warned you better about this.
* Hiei looks back up at his Alpha mate. She meets his gaze.
Sarista- Marking a demon so young causes them to mature faster.. It’s why.. some alphas will mark their.. bearing children as soon as they're born.
* Hiei looks back up into the leafy canopy overhead.
Hiei- D--- it.
Sarista- She only feels these emotions of jealousy and rejection because she’s too young to fully understand the ways of pack life, yet.. I assure you, she’ll grow past it in a couple years.
Hiei- In a couple..?
Sarista- Her first heat will help her to..
* Hiei looks back up at Sarista wide-eyed.
Hiei- A.. couple years..?!
Sarista- Aren’t you paying attention to me? I just said that she and Higama will mature faster.
* Hiei sits up.
Hiei- What the h---?! D--- it, are you telling me that I’ll have to..?! In a couple years?!!
Sarista- Hiei,..

* He quiets and glances briefly toward another area of the clearing where Trinka is nursing her daughter. He lowers his eyes quickly when he sees how Trinka is looking toward him.
Sarista- Will you calm down? D--- what has you so wired up?
Hiei- I thought you were relieved when you learned that I wasn’t an incestual b------.
* Sarista smiles.
Sarista- I didn’t know you then as well as I do now.
* Hiei tilts his head up at her, clearly showing his annoyance at the whole subject.
Sarista- I know now that you’re not a baby-eater.
Hiei- No s---.
* Now Sarista growls some in reaction to his manner, showing her own growing frustration with him.
Sarista- Hiei, your lack of knowledge astounds me at times! It makes me wonder how in the h--- you’ve survived this long!
Hiei- I survived because I kept myself from being entangled in s--- like this!
* Sarista is sincerely tempted to club her Alpha. She stands and starts to leave before she gives in to that temptation.
Hiei- Woman,..!
* Her eyes flash as she stops and glares back at him.
Hiei- you will answer me!
Sarista- If I don’t walk away.. you won’t like the answer I give you.. Master.
* She turns and continues up the path that leads to the Waterfall Meadow. Hiei glares toward Trinka, reading her feelings.
Hiei- No, d--- it, Trinnie! I’m not going to disown you, her.. or your mother!
* When he blinks over to growl down at the mute she cowers, attempting to protect her baby. Hiei’s jagan opens slightly and he freezes before he can yank the handful of Trinka’s hair that he’s snatched any harder. The Koorime swallows and slowly releases Trinka. He takes a couple steps back and glances around at his other mates. They’d all sensed his outrage and came to the mouth of the cave where they were escaping the heat of the day. In the next instant they are all left looking at each other when Hiei blinks away. The only sound being Trinka’s whimpering daughter.
