Scene 17
Well, it’s still snowing, I’m still cold and bored, so I’m giving you three more scenes here. Enjoy as this story moves right along now. :o)

Scene 17 ---------- Inside The Barrier
* Hiei pauses to watch Dagon greet the Lynx brothers with bobbing bows.
Dagon- Pleasure to see you again, cats.
Habataro- Crow.
Dagon- This should be some celebration in the next couple days, eh?
* They all look toward Hiei when Shironji pops in near him.
Shironji- Master,..
Hiei- Shironji.
Shironji- Ooshama is on his way. He has Sylk and Eboni in a barred wagon..
Hiei- How are they?
Shironji- So far he’s not touched them. Luckily he prefers more.. masculine company.
* Hiei rolls his eyes.
Shironji- Sylk is rather irate.
Hiei- It seems that that is her constant mood. How soon till he gets here?
Shironji- He doesn’t seem to be in any hurry. At his current pace he’ll probably arrive sometime tomorrow, though.
Hiei- Hn. Go watch my females.
Shironji- My son is with them.
Hiei- Send him to me when Ooshama gets closer.. I’ll let you know when to release Sylk and Eboni.
Shironji- It would, perhaps, be best to keep Sylk in the cage, Master.
* Hiei smirks.
Hiei- Don’t tempt me like that, imp.
* When he waves a hand dismissively Shironji bows quickly and disappears. Dagon gives a parting salute to the Lynxs then follows off after Hiei. The apparition half glances at him over a shoulder but continues on his way calmly. After several moments of no further acknowledgment Dagon stops and tilts his head. Hiei feels his disappointment and pulls up to look toward him.
Hiei- What do you want, bird?
Dagon- I’ve.. missed you.
Hiei- Missed me? Dagon, I released you.
Dagon- Yeah, but then you reclaimed me, remember?
* Hiei just grunts.
Dagon- Anyways, you can’t release a friend, sir.
* Hiei studies Dagon a moment, then scowls at the thoughts that begin to scroll through his mind about other friendships.
Dagon- Have I not proven that I can be trusted, yet?
Hiei- Trust.. is not the reason you came here.
Dagon- Indeed. Pterra and I came to watch you destroy Ooshama.
* Hiei grunts.
Hiei- It won’t even be a workout.
* He glances around and recognizes the darkened hut nearby. Hiei sighs.
Hiei- Ahh, what the h---.
* He motions Dagon to follow and moves to the small hut. When he pulls the curtain door aside Dagon looks the hut over. A slight smile soon touches his lips.
Dagon- It’s still empty?
Hiei- It’s yours.. for when you.. come to visit.
* Dagon looks back down at Hiei.
Hiei- After you, Crow.
* Dagon nods and leads the way into the hut. He looks around as Hiei moves toward the couch removing his cloak.
Dagon- Wow, nothing’s changed.
Hiei- Of course not. Nobody’s been in here since you left.
Dagon- That would explain the mustiness.
* Dagon sets his eyes on Hiei once more and goes over to settle down on the couch beside him.
Hiei- You and the reptile bird got here quick enough.
Dagon- We flew behind you as quick as we could.. Pterra did hold me back a bit, though.
* Hiei actually smirks at Dagon’s humor, hesitates a moment, then shifts to the side to face him.
Hiei- You didn’t follow me in here.. to joke around.
* When Dagon looks at Hiei the Koorime has a sudden memory of when he and Yusuke were trapped in the gate of betrayal. Of when the Detective had given him a similar look of admiration and trust.
Dagon- No.. of course not.
* Dagon tilts his head when Hiei scowls.
Dagon- But I haven’t forgotten my place, Master.
* Hiei doesn’t respond as he’s too distracted. The memory that continues to play through his mind is nearly exactly what happened that day so long ago.. Except for Garnetia’s new son laying on the floor between Yusuke and himself. Hiei remains caught on the sight of the crying, tattooed baby boy until he feels his throat being probed. The apparition snaps back to reality and shoves Dagon back.
Dagon- Sorry.. Too aggressive?
* Hiei relaxes and looks away.
Hiei- No.. I just think this is.. a bad time.. I need to rest.
Dagon- Understood.
* Hiei stands to leave. He hesitates when he gathers up his cloak off the floor. He then tosses it on and glances back at Dagon.
Hiei- We’ll.. celebrate after I kill that lizard Ooshama.
Dagon- Sure.. You’re absolutely right. You do need to rest.. Very important.
* Hiei tilts his head as he turns to face the Crow again. Dagon keeps his eyes lowered and away.
Hiei- It’s nothing personal, bird.
Dagon- Of course not.
* Hiei sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose. There was a time when he wouldn’t have cared about the feelings of rejection and nervousness he feels coming from Dagon. Then he scowls again.
Hiei- Dagon,.. why.. are you so nervous?
* Dagon looks up at him briefly then averts his eyes again.
Dagon- Your.. eye is open.
* Dagon taps his own forehead. Hiei suddenly remembers that he discarded his bandana when he was scanning his newly acquired allies.
Hiei- Ahh, d---.. I gotta go find my ward..
Dagon- I can make you a temporary one then I’ll go find..
Hiei- You can’t touch my ward.. Wait, you can make wards?
Dagon- Weak ones.. But it’ll last until you find your other one.
* Hiei hmphs and crosses his arms.
Hiei- Hn. Another reason to keep you around.
* Dagon half glances up at him, smirking. Amusement once more dispelling his disappointment. He stands quickly and moves to the kitchen. Hiei watches the tall, dark demon lay the thin towel he finds on the table and begin to chant. When the temporary ward is ready Hiei takes it and blinks out to go quickly retrieve the other one. Although his flitting movements are too quick for the lingering rodents in the area to watch, in a nearby tree Pterrayu’s eyes never leave him. The Bat hybrid smirks to himself after Hiei finds what he was searching for and disappears back into the foggy barrier, ‘Ooshama is so dead’.
