Book 4 - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Three demons crossed the gate into the human world, no one noticing their appearance outside the hot springs.
“Where do I find this Saikoubi?” The tall purple-haired demon spoke up, looking up at the bright morning sun, covering her eyes.
Hiei started running, headed for the road that would lead them to the road where they had hidden Amaya’s car and into the city. Kurama pointed after the fire demon. “Follow him. That is a demon on a mission.”
She nodded, lengthening her stride to keep up with the much shorter demon. Hiei was fast and she couldn’t keep up. She lost sight of the fire demon as Kurama came up and grabbed her hand, leading her.
“He is going to get to her as fast as possible. Come on.”
They followed at breakneck speed, Kurama dragging Kaida behind him as they fought to keep up with Hiei. They stopped, the smaller demon digging in his pocket and pulling out a set of keys, standing in front of a large, metal object Kaida had never seen before.
“What’s that?”
Kurama smiled, knowingly. “You’ve never been to the Human world have you?” She shook her head. “This is a Car. This is going to be faster to get us into the city than running, and since He and Amaya live in an apartment on the outskirts of town, we wont have to worry about the traffic.”
Kaida looked confused. “Car? Apartment? Traffic?”
Kurama sighed and smiled. “It’s a lot different here. I’ll explain…”
Hiei turned to them as he climbed in the passenger seat. “Damn it Kurama! Stop flirting with her and drive! We do not have much time!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Amaya felt like she was floating in nothing. It wasn’t cold, is wasn’t hot, it wasn’t anything. She didn’t know which way was up. She just knew she wanted out. She wanted Hiei, she wanted to feel his warmth, his touch. She barely understood what was going on, the void around her all-consuming.
She saw flashes of his face, the smile that only she got to see, the gentler side of one of the most powerful demons in any realm. She also saw him in his demon form, covered in jagan eyes and green, a pure and fierce warrior. She was not afraid of him, in any form, but she still felt fear. The fear of a dead man, the fear of the pain of loss, the fear of her own power.
She saw the day she killed the man she called father. Her rage, her hatred, had destroyed the control she had over herself, he body moving on instinct. He was no blood of hers, just a man who showed her nothing but hate and violence. She remembered the smell of his blood, the feel of the fire that consumed her. She remembered herself crying over the woman she called mother, but never screaming from the burning pain of her own death.
She saw herself the day she had found Mukuro and confronted her about Hiei. They had fought, Mukuro leaving her with scars, but Amaya ultimately releasing her demon form. She remembered the shining dress that her clothing changed to, the way her entire appearance had changed to that of an elegant warrior. She remembered how the water she had brought forth had lifted her up, letting her have a view above the ground as she attempted to destroy Mukuro. She remembered the feel of the power rising from the depths of her soul, drowning everything around her in water from nowhere. Mukuro hadn’t seen the attacks coming, being swept into a wall and pulled back several times, every time being hit against whatever large hard objects were close by. When the water demon returned to the ground, she felt the other demon’s life ready to slip away.
She remembered Hiei grabbing her around the waist, whispering it was time to stop. “I will not let you be a murderer, even if it is her. Stop this Maya.”
She stopped, going rigid in his arms as she dropped Mukuro’s body on the ground, the water receding.
She pulled away from the memories, afraid of herself and the power to literally kill on a whim. She knew she could do it before, with a sword and her bow. But this was different. This was with pure energy and rage. It frightened her, overpowered her.
She fell deeper into the darkness, fighting against it every step of the way.
“No! Help me someone please! HELP ME!”
