Book 4 - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
The next morning, in the village of Ru-Gogyu, a chill wind ran through the hut of Kanmuri Kaida as a tall angry air demon stood before Kurama and Hiei, pulling them both out of their thoughts. She looked slightly familiar, her purple hair cascading over one shoulder and held by a onyx clip, her short black kimono’s sleeves waving in the unseasonably cold wind. Her green eyes flashed angrily at the fire demon on the floor of the hut, the brunt of her fury aimed at him.
“What is with you. I have been hanging around for three days, trying to figure out what the hell you wanted from me and nothing. Nothing! Not one thing I tired got through you. Who or what the hell are you that I can’t get through.”
Kurama looked up, confused. “Who are you?”
The purple haired demon’s form shivered slightly, revealing the demon that had been offering them hospitality for the last three days. “I am Kanmuri Kaida.”
Hiei stood up, hand on his sword. “You have been here for three days and haven’t said ANYTHING other than ‘She’ll be back very soon’. Why the hell have I had to wait!”
The fire demon looked royally enraged as the purple demon looked him up and down, towering over him by at least a foot and a half. “Because, usually I can tell what people want by reading into them, finding out why they were seeking me. You. You two block me out and I still can’t get though, even with my most advance techniques. I know you are here for me, short stuff, not ‘Red’ here. Why are you here? Talk.”
Hiei’s bandaged arm sparked, his greatest power waking up enough to alert Kurama. Hiei, calmly looking down, spoke, the anger rising into his entire being. “You make me wait for three days, while my wife is home, her mind dying, and I am not there to comfort her. Just who do you think you are!”
He lifted his head, his anger now apparent to both Kaida and Kurama. Kurama grabbed his arm and pulled him back, making him look up at him.
“Stop it Hiei. Killing her won’t help anyone, and it certainly will not get her to Amaya more quickly. Calm down.”
Kaida looked at both demons, waiting for the shorter one to calm down. She could tell her tactic at finding out had gone very wrong this time and, warily walked over to the other demons, hopefully getting what she wanted from them quickly, because it looked like she needed to act as soon as possible.
“Tell me what you need from me.”
Kurama turned to her, letting Hiei walk to the wall and cool down. “His wife is a Mo-zaku, who had her memories bound by Koenma Daioh. Apparently when she awoke her demon blood, her memories resurfaced and it wasn’t a very good end result. She has no control and our friends who are watching her say she is there, but her mind is a swirling void where before she at least heard voices. If she goes on for much longer, were afraid she’ll be gone. Can you help her?”
She nodded to Kurama, looking at Hiei. “Hiei Jaganshi, hear me. I will help your wife. But, like Shigure who gave you your third eye, I have my price as well.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kaida watched the demon and his then lover and now Wife.
“You don’t care I’m a demon?”
“Hiei, I never cared. I love you. Demon or not, I love you.”
Kaida watched from inside the mind of Hiei Jaganshi as his wife told him for the first time she loved him. She did not turn away as she watched the rest of the scene, looking for what she always did.
The scene didn’t show her the pain in the souls of either one.
She pulled out of his mind.
He would have to do better.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Not good enough Hiei.”
He looked up, mentally exhausted from her intrusion. “What do you mean not good enough?”
“Like I said, not a good enough reason. Show me what I want to see, or lower your shields and let me find it myself.”
“No.”
She shrugged. “Your choice, but I don’t have to travel all the way to the human world to help her. And from what Kurama says, her mind is almost a wasteland. Show me what I want or your wife will continue to suffer.”
Kurama saw the flames licking around Hiei’s arms now, knowing this was not helping them either way. He grabbed the shorter demon, pushing him away so he would not rend the air demon in front of them to ashes.
“Hiei! Control yourself.”
“I’ll kill her. She is going to let Amaya die. I cannot and will not let her die!” The fire demon whirled around Kurama, landing in front of Kaida, who was smiling as he grew even more furious.
“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT FROM ME! WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO GIVE YOU! TELL ME DAMNIT!”
She looked down at him, feeling the anger come off him in waves like the surf on the beach. “Show my your true pain then Jaganshi. True Love means true pain. Show me the pain your love for her causes you.”
*~*~*~*~*~*
Kaida saw the demon she recognized as Mukuro kiss the Fire demon as he was caught off-guard. She felt his total abhorrence as he pushed her away.
She continued to watch the memory, knowing the feelings of jealousy and anger that rose from the woman. ‘~So this was her awakening.~’ She thought as she slowly saw the demon blood take over the human woman’s aura. She felt all the pain in the fire demon’s heart as he let his wife attack him, let out her rage, her pain,
on him. He felt the pain physically as her heart was breaking.
She was about to pull out of his mind, unsatisfied, when she saw the tear he shed fall on the ground, the hiraseki stone forming. His heart had broken too.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Hiei fell back, mind whirling as Kaida pulled away, smiling at Kurama.
“We leave within the hour.”
Kurama leaned down the check on his friend, looking back at the air demon.
“You will go then?”
Kanmuri nodded, looking down at the exhausted Hiei. “I will. He shed a tear for her. That was enough for me. Jaganshi…”
He turned his head, barely able to keep his eyes open. Her face softened as she smiled at him.
“Jaganshi. Give that stone to her. It will bind her closer to you than even you realize.”
