Scene 14
Scene 14 ---------- Hiei’s Ravine
* Hiei is patrolling the rim of the East Wall. He stops near the top of a tall tree when his jagan opens. With its help the Koorime watches the two separate packs approaching. One camoflauged by a cloud of dust, the other on wings. When they get closer Hiei realizes that they are made up mostly of Bats and Rats.
Hiei- Oh s----, not now!
* Hiei flits toward the village, telepathically ordering the brothers to meet him at the barrier. He alters his course somewhat and comes to a soft landing on the roof of the large river hut. He pauses only long enough to check on the females inside. When he ‘sees’ that three of them are sleeping as usual and Garnetia is nursing her new son he flits off to continue by ground to the barrier. When he skids to a stop the Lynx brothers all glance toward him.
Hiei- We have company coming.
Kumataro- Yep. Asmaroth and Yushigu’s packs.
Habataro- Didn’t think it’d take them long.
* Hiei tilts his head up at Habataro.
Hiei- You have enough able men in this village.. Summon them and..
Coutaro- I don’t think that’ll be necessary, Master.
* Hiei studies the three cat demons, taking note of how calm they are.
Hiei- Okay. What am I missing? I have two females that just gave birth. I don’t need a f---ing war right now.
Habataro- They’re not coming to fight, sir.
* Habataro looks down at Hiei and places a hand on his shoulder. Outside the barrier, the Rat pack stops advancing several yards away and the winged clan lands in several of the trees that make up the treeline not far away.
Habataro- Master, you killed their alphas.
Hiei- Hn.. Now they’ve come for revenge.
Kumataro- I don’t think so.
Coutaro- Make no mistake, sir. Asmaroth’s pack are among the most ruthless warriors in this region.
Habataro- But they can also be the most loyal.. As much as I hate to admit it.
Kumataro- If they were here to wage war they wouldn’t have stopped. They would have hit my barrier full force.
Habataro- You have a jagan. Use it to scan them.
* Hiei scowls a moment, then slaps Hab’s hand off his shoulder.
Hiei- I’ve been too soft on the three of you.
* He moves forward a couple feet and pushes his bandana up away from his third eye. What he learns in a matter of moments from the thoughts he gathers both relaxes and surprises him.
Hiei- Hn.. They’ve gathered to mourn the place where their alphas.. were set free.. Fine.. Let them perform their rituals as they see fit. Just stay on guard.
* Hiei turns to start back toward the ravine.
Habataro- Master, I know it’s not my place..
Hiei- What?
* Hiei stops, but keeps his back to them.
Habataro- If I were in your position.. Which I was at one time..
* Hiei turns sideways to look up at the tall Lynx.
Habataro- Not that I care to have that position back, mind you..
Hiei- Stop grovelling and just tell me, cat!
Habataro- If you go out to confront them it’ll show them that you’re not afraid of them.
Hiei- I’m not. They’re mourning their fallen..
Habataro- This is when you make it clear to them that you’re the one that defeated their alphas.
Kumataro- As soon as you killed them you won their packs.. Now you have to assert your dominance.
* Hiei looks away but considers their words.
Hiei- But aren’t they enslaved to that..?
Habataro- They were only slaves to Ooshama because he’d claimed their alphas.
Coutaro- But if you don’t claim them Ooshama definitely will.
* Hiei turns and moves to look through the foggy barrier again. Neither pack is extremely big. Both combined, though, are nearly as big as Habataro’s pack. They would make a formidable army.
Hiei- Hn.. I’ll give them one hour to perform their rituals of honor for their fallen alphas.. Then I’ll go claim them.. But does that mean I have to go out there and f--- every last one of them?
* The three brothers all shake their heads chuckling. Then Habataro raises a hand to rub his chin thoughtfully.
Hiei- Now what?
Habataro- I just had a thought..
Hiei- No s---.
* Habataro grins down at Hiei.
Habataro- With these last two falling you’ve conquered every alpha in this region.. Except Ooshama.
Kumataro- Hey, yeah.. Take that b------ out and you’ve done it.. You’ll be the Ultimate Alpha of the Barren Lands.
* Hiei blinks up at them then turns away again. The Lynx brothers watch puzzled as he moves aside to the large boulder and settles on top of it quietly. Coutaro looks at his brothers.
(#) Coutaro- No celebration?
(#) Habataro- Not yet.. He’s preparing himself for that battle.
Hiei- Hn.. For the safety of my pack.. I must see this through.. If I loose to Ooshama..
Habataro- If he has no clue who you are you’ll have the upper hand.. Ooshama is only barely an A-Class.
Hiei- Have you ever fought him before?
Habataro- No. I stayed away from him.. It wasn’t pleasant to lose to him.
Kumataro- I have no doubt that you can take him.
Hiei- There won’t be a fight.
* The three brothers nearly fall over from shock.
Habataro- M-Master,.. you can’t surrender..!
* Hiei sneers his most sinister sneer toward them.
Hiei- He won’t know what hit him.. I need to show everyone in this region that I’m not to be messed with.
* He leaps back down off the boulder again.
Hiei- I’ll be back before sunset.
* Before they can question Hiei zips off through the barrier. Without anyone to slow him down he zips past the two packs so swiftly that they only detect a fleeting spark of his energy. The stronger demons that felt him blur past blink at each other a couple moments, then shrug and return to their rituals.
