Book 4 - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Kurama lay back and stared at the ceiling. It had been two days since they had arrived int Kanmuri’s village and he and Hiei had sat in silence, both thinking their own thoughts. Hiei was thinking about Amaya, remembering her before she awoke, remembering her laugh, the fury and control with which she fought, the look on her face when she was with him. He wanted so badly to help her, but he was stuck waiting on the one person who might be able to put her mind back together.
Kurama was watching Hiei from the floor, itching to ask the other demon so many questions, but wondering about the purple-haired demon that always seemed to be hanging around outside the hut they were staying in. She had brought them all their meals, smiling sweetly at them, always sure the healer Kaida would return soon. Hiei had stated he didn’t trust her fully, and therefore had blocked his mind against both Kurama and the purple haired demon. Kurama was willing to believe her, not understanding why. Either way, he didn’t like the silence between him and Hiei and sought to fill it turning his head to the fire demon.
“Hiei, may I ask you a question?”
Hiei turned, almost startled by the sound of Kurama’s voice filling the small hut. He sat up looking at the human form demon. “What question?”
“Why Amaya?”
Hiei scowled, both confused and feeling slightly insulted. “What do you mean ‘Why Amaya’? You think there is something wrong with the two of us….?”
Kurama put his hands up, backing down. “I don’t think anything is wrong with it. I mean, she’s got to put up with you, doesn’t she?” The fire demon gave the fox demon an evil look as he continued. “But why her? I mean, she’s nice to look at I admit, she’s an excellent fighter, knows her work inside and out and obviously loves being with you over everything else. But what I don’t understand is why. What makes her different?”
Hiei stared forward at the ground, wondering what exactly made Amaya so attractive to him. He had a reputation to protect and couldn’t let it slip what he truly felt, still in his old mindset of protecting Amaya. He knew it was not just one thing, It was so much. It was the way she looked when she’s asleep in his arms. He actually enjoyed the feel of her against him, the sound of her heartbeat, the sound of her breathing, the times when they fought. He thought of the times she wouldn’t back down from him, when she would absolutely do her best to kick his ass when she knew she needed to prove her point. When he met her, he thought she was a harmless human, but yet there she was in the depths of demon world, doing what she had to do. That first time they had fought, they had both known she couldn’t beat him, but she was putting in every effort to make sure he understood that she would not back down.
Hiei smirked at the memories of he and Amaya, remembering how she had almost drawn blood when he had been much too rough with her their first time. She would bite back. She had taught him that lesson quickly; she was human, the roughness of demons was not for her.
The fire demon turned to the red-haired being next to him, looking at him and clearly saying all he would about his relationship with his wife. “It was like a wall in front of us that neither of us talked about. When we did say something, that was it we knew it was finally right for us to be together.”
Hiei went silent, Kurama staring at him, knowing it was so unlike Hiei to be speaking as actively on the one secret he had kept for so long.
“Is that why you married her? That little shock came way out of nowhere, old friend.”
Hiei smiled a genuine smile at the memory of their wedding night. “It wasn’t lust, or just mutual affection. She loved me, I loved her.” He smiled, remembering the words that finally become part of their wedding vows.
“You are mine as I am yours.”

*~Two and a half years ago ~*
They had met to spar again, meeting at the hot springs twice a week for the past few months, Hiei enjoying the new sparring partner, Amaya getting to try her skills out on a demon she somewhat trusted.
“Come on you can block better than that Saikoubi! Lean into it.” He barked out the command as she swung aiming for his head. He ducked the sword, knowing it had taken the ends of his hair with it when it sliced through the air. He could tell she was feeling very off, not into their usual good-natured encounters.
She growled at herself, walking off toward the hot spring and leaning on a tree, staring at the water and the light steam rising around it. Hiei watched her, actually concerned since she had never acted like this before.
He could tell she obviously didn’t feel like talking when she turned her head from him. He was confused and while he could get into her head if he took off his headband and revealed his eye, he didn’t want to do that. He had started a trusting relationship and didn’t want to crush that.
“Saikoubi. Tell me what’s bugging you.”
She looked away from him, a feeling of forced coolness toward him coming from her. He wanted to know what was going on, deeming this a good reason to use his third eye. He removed the headband, opening the implanted eye and peering into the mind of his sparring partner. He saw what was bothering her, understood what she wanted.
Him.
She didn’t just come here to spar, She had developed some feelings for him. He knew they had talked, but couldn’t quite understand the emotion he saw. He didn’t understand he was seeing what humans would commonly call infatuation, almost love, inside the head of his sparring partner.
“Damn it, get out of my head!”
She turned to him, obviously not amused he had seen her thoughts. He didn’t understand why it bothered her for him to see that. She had turned and saw his third eye open, feeling him seeing her thoughts and trying to shut him out.
“Why don’t you want me to see?”
He walked over to her, standing so he was between her and the hot spring. He wrapped his eye back up, to assure her he would not look into her mind anymore. She had crossed her arms and had an annoyed look about her, watching him and trying to ignore him at the same time.
“Saikoubi…”
“You know you can call me Amaya.”
“Amaya. Are you ashamed of it?”
“Ashamed of what?
He leaned down to kiss her, seeing how far he would allow her to go. “Wanting a demon. Wanting me.”
She stood still as his lips touched hers, his hardened hands taking hold of her wrists as he leaned into her. If she would give herself freely to him, he wouldn’t mind it. Mukuro had made several attempts with him, and he had refused her every time, not willing to sully himself with a bottom of the barrel demon, no matter how powerful she was. He had seen other female demons in the camp, and he wouldn’t touch any one of them. No, if a human female was willing to give him what he wanted, he was not going to argue. He wouldn’t force her, but he would see how far he could go.
“Hiei…”
“Don’t struggle…”
He had pulled away from her, moving down her neck, pulling at the sash that held her top closed. She shivered as it fell open, letting Hiei get a good look at her for the first time. She had a few light scars, obviously from demon fights, but he thought it added to the figure of the woman in front of him, ever a warrior in her own right.
Hiei didn’t warn her as he held her body to his, flashing them into a tree. It took a few seconds for her to understand where she was, almost falling out of the tree. He grabbed her, pulling her body to him, kissing her hard enough to bruise her lips.
She didn’t flinch as he moved down to her neck, literally biting her collarbone, as he would with any other ‘demon’ female. It took less than five seconds for Amaya to turn to his shoulder and bite him, hard enough he could smell the blood as she drew it, the feeling causing him to roar in pain.
“Damn it, Amaya!”
“Don’t even think you are gonna pull that rough shit on me, Hiei. I won’t stand for it!”
Hiei looked at her and blinked, watching this human woman, barechested and quite angry, tell him exactly what she thought. ‘~She ain’t going to take any shit off anyone is she?~’
She smirked at his confused look, grabbing him by his top belt. “Care to try again?”
He smiled, encouraged by her bluntness. “Of course….”

“You should have told me.”
He watched as the woman beneath him cringed, her pain obvious in her eyes, but not on her face. “Tell you what?”
“It wasn’t mine to take…”
“It was mine to give.” She watched as the demon above her leaned forward, kissing her on her cheek.
“Thank you for the gift.” He smiled as she leaned up to kiss him. “I promise to keep it safe.”
*~*~*~*~*~*
Mukuro watched as Hiei serviced the woman in the tree. She could hear every moan, every time the human said his name. She heard the definite moan of desire and release that came from the demon.
“That Bastard. A Human?”
Mukuro headed back to the camp. Hiei Jaganshi would not be welcome there any more unless he accepted her and her alone. She needed to be ready for the fight she knew would come.
