Dannigurl: Thanks for all the reviews. VampireGamehehehaha you are absolutely right. I cannot describe a fight scene to save my life. I am really sorry if I disappointed everyone with that. I would rewrite it but I know that it won’t get any better. This might very well be the chapter where I explain everything for anyone who is unclear about what has happened. Oh and another thing….I keep forgetting to say sorry for the numerous grammatical errors. So sorry about that…..Chapter 12….enjoy….

Regrets And More Regrets
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
He rushed to the corner, the scene of the accident, with a speed that he never thought he could accomplish. His feet only hesitating slightly at the sight of the bruised, bloody and crumpled body beneath the bundle of iron that was once a car. He kneeled next to the prone body, ignoring the frantic babbling of the driver of the car, who ironically was unharmed.
He gently ran his hand over Kurama’s body, searching for broken bones or hidden injuries. He found none though he knew they were there. He raised his hand to reverently touch the once perfect, creamy almost translucent skin now marred by nasty bloody scratches. /This is all my fault. I’m so sorry Kurama. I lied. I lied. I didn’t mean anything I said. I’m so…sorry./
Yusuke gently moved away from Kurama’s side as he saw Botan kneel beside his love. “Yusuke move aside so I can assess how badly he’s been injured. I’ll call you if I need to. Don’t worry, Kurama isn’t going anywhere.” As he moved away from Kurama everything seemed to move in slow motion and it was if he had left his body and he was just on the outside looking at everything take place. He saw rather than felt his body move towards the driver.
He watched as the man’s eyes widened when his body approached. The man tried to retreat behind the smoking mass that was once his car but that wouldn’t help him. He saw himself grabbing the man by the throat as he spouted useless excuses and apologies but he did *feel* his fist collide solidly with the man’s jaw sending him sprawling five feet away.
Yusuke followed the man’s flight with a purposeful stride. He cast a disgusted look on the cowering man who was trying to stop the blood that was rushing from his nose which looked like it was broken. /Guess I hit him harder than I thought. Not hard enough. He’s still breathing….not for long./ Yusuke raised his fist again to pummel into the whimpering piece of shit beneath when he felt two pairs of arms grab him roughly.
“WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU, URAMESHI???”
Yusuke tried to shake the hands off him in his blind rage. He wasn’t thinking. He didn’t want to think. If he thought all he would focus on would be Kurama, lying bloody on the street, pale and battered. No the only thoughts in his mine were to kill. Kill the man. Then kill some more. He needed some bloodshed. He needed something. Something to ease the pain that he was feeling. He had the feeling that torturing that worthless sack of shit would bring him great pleasure even if it was fleeting.
“ARE YOU SO FUCKING CLUELESS???” Yusuke stopped struggling long enough to look at the little midget dispassionately. “Kurama is over there fucking *BLEEDING* and all you can think about is beating the guy senseless? You’re a stupid son of a drunken bitch. I don’t know what Kurama could see in a fucking low class motherf***er ( lol I can’t type that word no matter how hard I try…sorry if I said it in previous chapters) asshole like you. You don’t deserve him. You don’t even care that he’s hurt.” Hiei snapped as he tried to rein his temper in.
Yusuke gave a the flushed vertically challenged demon a smirk, its only purpose to hide the fact that Hiei’s words had mirrored his own thoughts almost identically….well except for the first part. Yusuke was doing what he knew best. He didn’t know how to deal with Kurama like………that. He knew Kurama was in good hands. She would take care of him. He was sure of that. “What? You’re more deserving than I me? That you should be the one that Kurama loves? Not a chance on this Earth. He couldn’t love a self serving fucker like you. Ya didn’t seem to care when you fucked his ass bloody did ya? You didn—.
Yusuke didn’t get to finish his sentence and his smirk slipped as Hiei’s bitter slightly hysterical laughter interrupted him. “HA! Anyone would be more deserving that you! Just look at him. You caused this. If only you’d taken the time to listen to him none of this would have happened. What kind of love do you claim to have for him where if the slightest thing went wrong you’d leave him at a moments notice? The truly idiotic thing is that all this…” Hiei said indicating the accident and the small crowd that everyone made over a still unconscious Kurama and Botan who was attending to him, “was for nothing. That wasn’t me that was with Kurama that night,” he continued raising his hand as Yusuke tried to interrupt him. “It was Karasu in disguise. He used a herb that had certain properties. Kurama thought it was you. He didn’t know. He tried to tell you but you were too busy nursing your ego. You couldn’t stand the thought of being replaced by someone else that you were too stubborn to listen. You were too blind to see that you hurt him so much he was careless and got himself almost killed.”
Yusuke blinked once. Twice. Shook his head as if trying to clear the state of shock and total denial that was clogging his mind. “So what you’re saying is that Karasu somehow, mysteriously, miraculously, came back from the dead, got some plant, used it on Kurama, pretended to be you, fucked him and then left?” Pondering Yusuke’s words, Hiei simply nodded. “Yes. Well except Karasu pretended to be you first and then changed back to me when you came into the room.”
Kuwabara stood a few feet away from the two black haired detectives, staring in bewilderment. /How can they stand here and talk like its tea time and they’re discussing the weather?/ “They’re in shock. Some people just stare off into space for hours not seeing or hearing anything. I guess this is how those two deal with their shock. By just talking about it rationally….or about as rational as those two can get.” Botan spoke softly, answering his unspoken question.
“Come on. We’re ready to move Kurama. Koenma has instructed me to bring him to Spirit world instead of taking him to a human hospital. In fact he was adamant that we didn’t. It would appear that Kurama’s situation is far too complex to be left in the hands of a human doctor.” She said to the two boys who had fallen silent.
The gang gathered Kurama carefully on the Spirit World’s version of a stretcher and started their journey. No one spoke or paid heed to Yusuke whose eyes never left the man on the stretcher.
To weeks later…….
It has been two weeks since the accident and two weeks since anyone has seen Kurama conscious. He hadn’t moved, made a sound or even blinked. The only sign of life was the constant beep, beep, beep of the machine monitoring his heart and the slight rise and fall of his chest.
He looked like an angel that had fallen earth from heaven, with his hair fanned out above him like a crimson halo, his face pale but rosy at the cheeks, his smile serene and tranquil and this arms resting at his side. He managed to look beautiful in the slightly depressing room that he was in. The room was white walls, white sheets, white pillow-cases, white lights, white lamp shades, white floors, white chairs, white curtains, white bedpans….long story short….everything was white.
Kurama definitely looked better than the young man slumped in the white chair, which was ironic since Kurama was the one who had been in the accident. It had been over a day or so since Yusuke had slept and even then it was only for an hour. He couldn’t sleep even if he had wanted to. Every time he closed his eyes, the visions of a bloody Kurama would flood his mind waking him instantly.
He kept constant watch of Kurama, his eyes never straying. His mind kept replaying everything that he had said to Kurama in anger. Every time that he had denied loving him and saying that what they had was not important. He grimaced as he thought of what he had done. He had been an immature and in pain when he had turned to Evan but that had been no excuse to flaunt his new “relationship” with Evan in front of Kurama in the hopes of hurting him.
His heart always constricted every time he thought of how his life would have been if….if…if Koenma hadn’t been able to save Kurama. They had finally gotten Kurama to spirit world through the portal Botan had opened which had seemed to take far longer than normal to go through. Upon arrival they had been ushered straight to the “Human with Special Abilities Ward” in the hospital found in Koenma’s castle.
They had taken Kurama away and had worked on him. Koenma had come to the waiting room with a solemn expression. Everyone had thought the worst and seeing the ashen look that had graced the face of Yusuke, he had rushed on to say that the only reason Kurama was alive was because his Youko half had too much pride to be killed by a *human car* so he kept them alive.
That night, as tubes crisscrossed Kurama’s bandaged body, Yusuke cried to break his heart. He finally let go off all the emotions that were running through him during the months after the breakup and the feelings that were coursing through him when he saw Kurama lying on the street. He sobbed and begged forgiveness for his stupidity, his lack of faith, his lack of commitment and his unwillingness to listen or see beyond his selfish pride.
Now he just sat staring at Kurama, willing him to move. He had gotten the feeling that Koenma wasn’t telling him something about Kurama’s condition but he had let it go. Rather he had just been too upset to pay too much attention to it. He had dismissed it because if it was something important Koenma would have mentioned it. He had to keep all his focus on Kurama because it was the only thing keeping him sane. The only reason he hadn’t done something stupid, something to end the living misery that he now called life.
During the last two weeks he had ample time to think over everything that happened and it still blew his mind. How could someone be so evil? Well that was a dumb question since the evil person in question is Karasu. It really was amazing how the simplest plan always seemed to work the best. Karasu had proven that.
Karasu had found some way to return to the world of the living, which still could not be explained, and had tried to exact his revenge on Kurama. He knew that he had failed when he had previously tried to defeat physically with the end result being his death. His next method of attack was to try the emotional front. What better way to destroy someone than to have the person they love do it for you? There was no better way because sometimes emotional pain was far worse than physical pain. The perfect trap and Yusuke had fallen blindly into it.
It wasn’t hard to see the obvious in hindsight. Like the saying said hindsight is 20/20. Even though there was no trace of Karasu, he must be very happy wherever he was. His plan had succeeded. Yusuke shook his head as all the pieces fit neatly together. It was no secret that Karasu had an obsession with Kurama. During the Dark Tournament, Yusuke had watched that exchange between him and Kurama in the hallway.
He had seen how Karasu had caressed Kurama’s hair and he had silently seethed with anger. Karasu was always going off at the mouth about how Kurama would be with him or he wouldn’t be with anyone at all. The other demon wanted to punish the youko for loving someone other than him. /I’m not surprised that he stooped so low. I just wish I had realized what was happening…./
Yusuke was startled from his musings as he heard a soft groan from Kurama’s bed. He rose quickly, heading toward the injured youko.
“Water,” Kurama whispered, his voice weak and hoarse from weeks of not being used. Yusuke rushed to his bedside grabbing the pitcher and pouring the water out quickly, spilling a few drops in his haste. He carefully helped Kurama into a comfortable sitting position against the sterile white pillows. He gently pressed the rim of the glass against the other boy’s lips, all the while ignoring the suspicious look he knew was in Kurama’s eyes.
Kurama indicated that he was finished with a slight turn of his head and warily watched as Yusuke set the half-empty glass on the stand beside the bed. “Why are you here?” he managed to croak. He saw Yusuke flinch as if his words had hurt him and he felt an immediate rush of guilt. He had been hadn’t meant to be rude but that was exactly what he had been. He tried again. “I am sorry. What I meant to say was, thank you for the water and it is nice to see you.”
Yusuke had hoped that Kurama hadn’t noticed how much his words had slashed him. Those very words just proved the distance and the destruction that Karasu had caused. But he was being honest with himself. He knew that he couldn’t put all the blame on Karasu because he had played a part in the death of his relationship with his best friend and lover.
Yusuke certainly didn’t expect Kurama’s first words to be “What are you doing here?” Technically his first word was “water” but that didn’t count in Yusuke’s mind. With a sigh Yusuke sat in the chair that he had called home for the last two weeks. He knew that he should call Koenma but he would eventually. He was too relieved to have Kurama conscious to waste time to call the little runt.
“It’s fine Kurama.” Yusuke said softly, his voice betraying his inner emotions slightly. “I’m glad that you’re awake. Do you remember anything that happened? You’ve been out a while…about two weeks.”
“Yes I know what happened. I heard everything. I had shut my body down but I was aware of everything. I only allowed myself to awake now because I got thirsty.”
Yusuke’s mind flashed back to him crying and pouring his heart out in front an unconscious or so he thought Kurama. “Everything?” he queried.
“Yes. Everything Yusuke. I heard everything you said.” Kurama said just as quietly.
Nodding Yusuke silently thought of how he was going to say what was on his mind. He didn’t want to put any pressure on his love since he might still be weak but the last two weeks had been hell. He wanted to know if there was still a chance between them. Clearing his throat nervously he began…
“Kurama, I….I’m sorry. I know that no matter how many times I say I’m sorry it will not make up for what I’ve said and…and what I’ve done. That thing with Evan…that was me being angry and hurt and lonely. It meant nothing to me. I was just reaching out…to anyone who was there. When I saw you and Hiei together I – wait I know that it was that freak Karasu – I felt like my life was over. I was jealous and insecure even before that happened. I never thought that you could love me and that you were too good for me so when I saw the two of you together….my worst fears came to life. I reacted that way to protect myself. I didn’t want to hurt anymore so I-I hurt you instead. I said harsh things to you…things that you were never supposed to hear…especially from someone that loves you. And I do Kurama…love you I mean. You are so important to me. Everyday I begged to die because it hurt too much not to have you near me. I wanted to come back to you but my pride got in the way. I need you like I need air maybe even more so. I know that sounds like a corny line but I don’t know how else to express the necessity to have with me….forever. You don’t have to answer me now but all I ask for is a second chance. I know I don’t deserve it but I love you too much and I’m not going to give up until we’re together again. Please…just one more chance…” Yusuke finished, his tone desperate and pleading and he didn’t care. He stared earnestly into Kurama’s eyes, hoping for a sign of what was going through the other boy’s mind.
“Yusuke…..I…I can’t….I” Before Kurama could finish his sentence Koenma waddled in before transforming into his teenage form. He took his pacifier from his mouth, a rare thing, and faced the two solemn looking boys. He smiled brightly trying to lighten the mood. “Kurama. I’m glad that you finally decided to wake yourself. I don’t think I could have waited any longer to tell you the good news.”
“Koenma…what good news?” Kurama asked his patience wearing thin.
Koenma smiled a slightly amused smile and spoke directly to Kurama, as if what he was about to say would prove to be very humorous. “Congratulations are in order. You’re going to be a father.”
