Scene 11
Sorry, I had a busy Holiday weekend. Plus, I’ve been having some computer issues. Here’s the next two emotionally-charged scenes. Enjoy. :o)

Scene 11 -------------- Chevaux’s Bedroom
* Chevaux looks up from the bed where she is laying on her side, watching her baby boy sleep in front of her. For a couple moments Hiei remains facing the door he just closed. He’s never been easy with handling ‘touchy’ situations, especially when emotions run high. The Horse demoness swallows when she feels his turmoil through their bond.
Chevaux- I’m.. glad you came in.. I.. I wanted to.. thank you.
* The sound of her soft, timid voice makes Hiei turn to look at her slowly.
Hiei- Thank me?
Chevaux- Sylk and the others told me what happened.
* Hiei lowers his eyes.
Hiei- And you want to thank me? You should hate me for what I..
Chevaux- Please.. come closer,.. Master.
* Hiei hesitates, then goes over to stand beside the modern-type bed. He lowers his eyes to avoid her soft brown ones and looks at the baby boy. He notes the telltale marks that prove who his true sire is.
Chevaux- I.. understand.. some of what they said.
Hiei- Mare,..
Chevaux- What I don’t understand.. is why you made such a.. concerned decision.
Hiei- You’re the one that told me the risks..
* Chevaux closes her eyes.
Chevaux(Quietly)- So.. this was my fault?
* Hiei raises his eyes to look at her quickly.
Hiei- No! That’s not what I meant to imply.. D--- it, Chevaux, you wouldn’t have survived having both of them.
* She looks back up at him.
Hiei- You knew this.. You were brave enough to carry them..
Chevaux- It’s a Mother’s duty to bear her young, no matter what the risks.. My species’ fatality rates are high enough with all the predatory species we have to watch out for.
* Hiei grunts.
Hiei- And you’re stuck right dab in the middle of a pack of.. us.
* Chevaux chuckles, feeling Hiei’s mood relax some.
Chevaux- Life can be funny.
Hiei- Hn.. I didn’t give you much argument about wanting to carry them.. But when I heard that you were struggling.. I’m the one that panicked.
* Hiei reaches down to caress the baby’s tattooed cheek.
Hiei- Yusuke’s genes are strong in this one.
Chevaux- That’s another thing.. This baby’s not even.. yours.. So why would you care if he survived or..?
Hiei- Because he’s your baby and you belong to me now.. I don’t shirk my responsibilities. If I did I would’ve been gone long before I met you or Sylk or the others.
* She lowers her eyes again.
Chevaux- But I’m not the prettiest or the strongest. In fact, I’d rather run from anything than fight it.
Hiei- There’s nothing you can do about your nature, Woman.
* Chevaux looks back up at him again.
Hiei- As far as looks are concerned, h---, have you seen my mate D’Tara? If I only judged by such petty things I’d have never kept her around.
* Chevaux relaxes when Hiei raises the hand to caress her cheek.
Hiei- Believe me, Mare. I’ve seen much uglier demons before.. You’re far from that. And I do consider you brave, as I stated. You knew baring both those babies would have taken your life, but you didn’t run from that.. I’m the one that ran.
* Chevaux looks down at her son and smiles.
Chevaux- He was worth the risks.. If you could have a baby you would understand.
* Hiei rolls his eyes.
Hiei- Well, now’s not the time to discuss my fertility, Mare.
* Chevaux gives a soft whinnying chuckle as she looks back up at him.
Chevaux- So.. I can feel how much stronger you’ve gotten.. You can return life now?
Hiei- Oh, it wasn’t me.. Let’s just say it pays to know people in High places.. sometimes.
Chevaux- Well, I guess I can forgive you.. this time.
Hiei- Chevaux, Koenma explained to me why you were carrying the twins in the first place, the reason why he could step in and fix the problem.. It was some kind of experiment that b------ Matsua..
Chevaux- Please, don’t ever mention that monster’s name to me again. The only thing good that came out of that nightmare, besides meeting you, of course,.. is laying here in my arms.
* She looks back down at her son. Hiei nods with a soft grunt then bends to give her a soft kiss. He feels her weariness catching up with her again and straightens up.
Hiei- Now rest and regain your strength. It won’t be easy to keep up with this kid.. I can feel too much of his Sire in him already.
Chevaux- I think he’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.. His name is Yarou (1).
* Hiei nods then turns to leave.
Chevaux- Master,..
Hiei- You can call me Hiei. I’m still not fond of that d--- title.
Chevaux- Will you refresh your claim on me?
* Hiei hesitates, then looks back at her.
Hiei- Do you.. want to stay with me? I can give you the option of going with his Sire..
Chevaux- I don’t know him.
Hiei- Yusuke’s here.. He’s a Toushin and one of the other two Supreme Territory Lords.. And still a close friend of mine.. for now.
* Chevaux looks back up at Hiei.
Chevaux- I would prefer to stay with you.. if you’ll keep me.
* Hiei stands for several moments, just staring at her. Then he calmly moves back to the bedside and bends to capture her lips once more. She allows it to deepen and he raises his aura as he takes brief advantage of her willingness before pulling back to meet her eyes again.
Hiei- I’m not the easiest person in the world to be mated to, Mare.
Chevaux- I’m not running,.. Hiei.
Hiei- Hn. You really are a glutton for punishment, then.
* Hiei leans again, this time trailing his mouth down her jawline, down her neck until he finds his mark. As gently as he can he refreshes it. Chevaux raises her free hand to embrace his head. When they feel the baby squirm Hiei pulls back, glances down into his partially opened eyes, then straightens up to watch Chevaux soothe the boy back to sleep. Hiei then turns and leaves.
