Book 4 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5

“What are you talking about? You sealed her memories?”

Hiei grabbed the shirt of the taller Koenma as he confronted him. The information he had just received had obviously not gone over very well.

Amaya had never talked about her family, her past. Hiei hadn’t said much to her about his past either, but this needed to be told. He now knew what had happened to her, about her mother, about her father, About her memories being sealed away.

“Hiei, yes, I was not the one who sealed her memories. I made the decision. Her demon blood awakening should not have had this effect, but apparently it did. There is nothing that can be done about that now. We need to repair the damage done. Kurama, what did you find out?”

The fox demon, who usually took the form of a red-haired human gazed sleepily at his partner and yawned. “She’s in the mountains, a village known as Ru-Gogyu, or so they say.”

Hiei looked confused. “Who?”

“They call her Kanmuri Kaida. She’s a healer who specializes in healing the mind.”

Hiei turned to Koenma. “Why didn’t you tell me this before?”

Koenma looked the fire demon up and down, not happy with this turn of events. Hiei was supposed to turn gallant knight and run off to find Kanmuri, but instead he was here, fighting Koenma about it.

“We didn’t know for sure where she was. Kurama had to ask a lot of questions in order to find her. Be glad we did. How much do you want to help her, Jaganshi Hiei?”

The fire demon looked the taller being up and down as he spoke, trying to be reasonable. “I want to help her more than anything.”

Koenma nodded turning to Kurama. “Are you willing to take him there?”

Kurama looked at Hiei, pity for the demon he considered friend blatant in his eyes. “Yes. I want to help her too.”

“You’ll leave in the morning. I will contact Botan and Yusuke to come care for Saikoubi. The journey may be easy, but the healing will most likely be hard. This may be the hardest thing either of you have to deal with.”

That evening, Hiei watched from the doorway as his wife stared aimlessly out the window. It was no different from any other night, she was still silent as he watched her.

“Amaya…”

“As the outcome of your faith, you obtain the salvation of your soul. My salvation is someone none of us know with ways we cannot understand.”

“’Maya…I….”

She turned and smiled, her eyes clear and bright, tears streaming down her face. “I know you will be gone in the morning. You will find another woman and…..”

He stopped her with a kiss, knowing where her words were going. “I won’t find anyone to take your place. I will go with Kurama to find someone to help you.”

She hung her head, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I’m afraid.”

He held her to him. “I will come back.”

He watched her sleep that night, studying her at peace. They preferred a tempestuous relationship, always had; right now he welcomed her mind being at peace. It had worried him she didn’t mention the voices, hopeful they had stopped on their own. He just hoped the silence within her mind meant she would be alright. He wanted to make her alright again, heal her body, mind and soul.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

He was gone by dawn, following Kurama and hoping they could find this Kanmuri.

He didn’t know how much longer Amaya could hold on to her sanity.
