My Little Fool
“Oh, this is just perfect!” A teenage boy with black slicked back hair sighed in exasperation, his brown eyes turning to the calm redhead next to him. “I take it you don’t know where we’re supposed to go, either?”
The fox sighed. “I’m afraid I don’t.”
“Stupid Paciferbreath! Sending us to a different country for stupid crap!” the teen grumbled.
“Why don’t we just ask someone?” The tall orange haired teen asked from his back.
“For once, the fool has a point.” The shortest of them all spoke.
“What was that, Shrimp?!” Kuwabara yelled at the red-eyed demon.
“Are your ears clogged with stupidity?”
“Hey! Knock it off! We don’t need a public fight!” Yusuke commanded of the two.
“Hmph,”
“Hn,”
Kurama sighed softly as his green eyes took in their surroundings. They were supposed to enroll into this college because…well, Koenma didn’t actually tell them why, which was pointless, but they were here. And they weren’t entirely sure where the registration office was at. And the whole place had a pretty crappy set up, so it was hard to find much of anything. Of course, they would’ve asked if they found anyone, but the place was bare. He gave another sigh.
Then suddenly a girl came into view.
She had on black boots that reached about two inches below her knees and they were placed over her light blue jeans. Then she had on a long black trench coat, but…she had two big bags and a purse. One bag had a picture of some guy on it while the other was a stylish computer bag.
“Hey!” Yusuke shouted out.
She stopped and turned as if she knew he was yelling at her and not anyone else. That was a little strange.
The girl had dyed dark red hair; actually it looked brown, but brought out the red that was already in her hair, with golden highlights. She had on enough foundation to hide any blemishes, eyeliner on her thin eyebrows so that it matched her hair color, then black eyeliner in a thinner Egyptian style around her eyes. And then she had a light bit of pink blush on her cheeks. Nothing was too heavy.
She blinked at them, squinting slightly. “Yes?”
“Uh, we’re a little lost…we need help finding the…registration place…”
One of her eyebrows rose and her lips twitched, “Right.”
Yusuke’s brow twitched. “So could you help us or not?”
They watched as the girl sighed, and then lowered her head to put on a pair of small glasses that was only a few millimeters bigger than her eyes.
“Sure.” She turned around and went back the way she had just come from, the boys followed and then stopped because she was standing beside two big glass doors where anyone could see in or out.
“You…can’t be serious!!” Yusuke growled, twitching. They had only taken four steps!
The girl gave them a small smirk.
“Damn, we passed this place a dozen times!!” Kuwabara grumbled.
Kurama sighed. “Yes, but I don’t see anyone in there.”
“No, it’s best to come back tomorrow before 4.” The girl informed them, still with a smirk.
“Damnit!! All this for nothing!!” Yusuke growled. “I AM so going to kill Koenma!”
The girl blinked from him to the also grumbling …ugly… taller teen next to him and then to the calm sighing redhead to the annoyed looking strange red-eyed man that was at least half a foot taller than herself.
The redhead sighed again. “Well, thank you nonetheless.”
She was about to answer when she heard a muffled noise. And quickly digging into a small pouch on her purse, she pulled out her phone and answered a bit perplexed, “Yeah, hey.”
There was a screaming on the other end which made her wince and hold the phone at arm’s length.
The guys all heard what the high-pitched feminine voice was saying. “WHAT DO I DO?! HE WANTS TO LEAVE JUST BECAUSE I’M SMOTHERING HIM!!”
Blinking the girl let out a deep breath in what seemed annoyance and pulled the phone back once the yelling died down. “You know…I’ve told you before. Stop worrying about his facial expressions and worry more about his body language and look what’s in his eyes. Not just that, but stop asking him what’s wrong every five seconds.”
While there wasn’t any screaming this time, they could still hear the other’s voice. “I do not ask every five seconds! Stop exaggerating! What would you know about it anyway?”
“Oh, right. Back to this argument, are we? Look that has absolutely nothing to do with it! And what I want to know is why you keep asking for my advice when you never even use it!”
There was silence, and then a sigh. “I’ll…call you later. Mom wants me to do something.”
The girl in front of them gave an eye tick before closing her eyes and muttering. “That was a lie.” She then blinked and looked up at the four men she realized were still there. “Right….what were you saying?”
They all blinked at her. She didn’t even apologize for that interruption, it’s not like it was her fault anyway, but still…
Kurama chuckled. “I believe I was thanking you.”
“Oh, yeah.” she sighed and pushed from the wall and started to make her way back to the main room where she spotted headlights. “You’re welcome.”
“Hey, wait!” Yusuke called, making her frown back at him. “What’s your name?”
She stared at him as though he were some type of nutjob and quickly, defensively blurted out. “What’s yours?”
Yusuke frowned and folded his arms, but gave in anyways. “Yusuke Urameshi.”
“Kazuma Kuwabara!”
“Shuichi Minamino.” Kurama ignored the other’s looks of perplexion when he gave his human name instead.
The three looked over at their shorter comrade, who ‘hmph’d’ and spoke. “I don’t see why she needs-“
“That’s Hiei Jaganshi.” Yusuke interrupted the other’s tirade.
She blinked, then looked away and then frowned back at the shorter one of the guys. “Isn’t there a Mt. Hiei somewhere in Japan? Okinawa or somewhere like that?”
They all stared at the girl in astonishment.
“How…did you know that?” Yusuke asked finally.
She blinked than shrugged. “Just do.”
They blinked at her a few times before Hiei spat out. “You haven’t given us your name.”
She blinked again, not fazed in the least by him like so many others were, “Oh, yeah. I’m Thera Katoni.”
“Thera….Katoni? What the hell kind of name is that?!” Both the rash teens asked in unison.
The girl stopped and turned with a grin. “The last name’s Italian, the first names’ are both someone else’s middle name.” With that she was out the doors.
“…Americans…” Yusuke muttered, shaking his head.
“Yeah, they don’t make any sense.” Kuwabara agreed.
Kurama sighed, not bothering to mention how strange they were.
Hiei continued to glare after her in annoyance.
The fox sighed. “I’m afraid I don’t.”
