A/N: Personally, I love Artemis/Holly fanfictions. They are perfect for each other. However, I think that Artemis needs someone he can talk to on an intellectual level too and Holly, while she is smart, is more of a brute strength type of girl. So, I thought about all my favorite characters and I decided that I really, really like the idea of Kurama/Artemis. One second thought, I might turn this into a Hiei/Artemis. I’m undecided.

Artemis stepped into the terminal with Butler at his side and glanced around him. He was looking for red hair and emerald eyes, that much he knew, even though he had never actually seen his pen pal before. “Tell me again everything you found on Mr. Minamino.”

“Minamino, Shuichi. He’s 17 years old, lives with his mom, and is the top in his school at a private academy. I staked out his house and school last month. He hangs around with three boys mostly. The first is Urameshi, Yusuke. Next it’s Kuwabara, Kazuma. Last is a boy only identified as ‘Hiei’. I have not been able to find any files on him as of yet. I personally do not like him. Lastly, Shuichi’s friends call him ‘Kurama’.” Butler commented, his eyes never stopping in his scan of the room. “He is by the luggage.”

The boy genius nodded and headed towards the man with the long crimson hair and shining emerald eyes. The other teenager was holding up a sign that read ‘Artemis Fowl II’. “I’m assuming that you are Minamino-san?” Artemis asked, easily speaking the native language as he gave a slight bow.

“Yes,” He spoke, looking first at the young Master Fowl, and then to Butler. “You must be Fowl-san and Butler-san.”

“Artemis will be fine.” The raven haired teen grabbed his luggage as it came around. “So, shall we go?”

Kurama nodded. “Yes, of course. And you may call me Shuichi.” Butler and Artemis shared a look before the group headed out towards the Minamino residence. “I must tell you right now that my mother means the world to me. If you insult her, I will not allow you to stay in my home.”

The raven haired boy nodded. “Yes, I understand. I would say the same thing.”

The three men arrived at the house after a short ride. “Mother, I am home!” The red head called, stepping towards the kitchen where the aroma of food was thick in the air. “Are you making dinner?”

“Yes dear. Oh, you must be Artemis,” The woman wiped her hands on her apron and held out a hand for the young boy to shake.

“Yes, and you must be Minamino-sama. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” He said, shaking her hand and giving a slight bow. “And this is Butler.”

“Pleasure.” He nodded his head. “”Where can I set this stuff down at?”

“I’ll show you.” Kurama nodded and headed up the stairs, Artemis and Butler on his heels. “One of you can have the room to the right, by my mother, and the other can have the room to the left by me.”

“Butler, you can have the room to the right.” Artemis said, following Kurama to the left.

“This is my room,” The older teen opened the door and was surprised by the site of Hiei sitting in the window sill. “Hiei, can I help you with something?”

He turned ruby eyes onto the boys for a split second before turning away. “Hn.”

“Artemis, this is my friend Hiei. He pops up from time to time without any announcement of himself.”

“Hello, Hiei-san. It is a pleasure to meet you.” Artemis could tell why Butler didn’t like the boy. His eyes were as cold as a killers and his body seemed to radiate with power and magic, but not like that of a fairy. It was darker, though not evil.

“Artemis, I’ve been meaning to ask,” Artemis shook his head and turned to Kurama. “Your accent, it’s amazing. Sounds like you were born and bred here. Did you teach yourself?”

The boy genius nodded. “Yes. I’ve taught myself more languages then I care to count including druidic and some dead demonic languages.”

“I highly doubt that.” Hiei smirked, speaking in his native tongue.

Artemis turned sharp eyes to him, “I don’t lie, Hiei-san.” He smirked at the man’s surprised look as he spoke in the same language. “This would be a dialect of a fire demon. But your accent is that of an ice maiden. Do you have gender issues, Hiei-san?”

Hiei growled and made a move towards the boy and instantly Artemis regretted his sharp tongue.

“Is there a problem?” Butler asked as he returned, stepping in front of his ward.

The young apparition did not look phased, even though he as only half of Butler’s height. He glared at the man and turned his eyes to the boy with raven hair. “Where did you find the language?” He asked instead of attacking the boy, speaking in Japanese once again.

“Internet.” Was all the reply Artemis could give. There was no way he could tell them of all his research and the fact that there was a demon world and a spirit world. They would think he was crazy.

“Dinner’s ready!” Shuichi’s mother called from downstairs, saving the moment.

“Well, let’s go eat, shall we?”

“Something isn’t right about this one, Kurama. I don’t like him.” Hiei said, never taking his eyes off the full moon from his spot in the window sill. “There is no way he taught himself to speak my language from the internet.”

The red headed fox rolled his eyes as he lay in his bed. “You worry too much. I had Koenma do a background check on him. Nothing out of the ordinary except he’s a kid genius, well, teenager now.”

“Who is that man with him? His father?”

“No, bodyguard. He’s one of the Butler’s. He’s dangerous for a human. Might even be able to beat Kuwabara or Yusuke.” Kurama turned this time to look at his friend. “I’m worried about my mother sleeping next to him to tell the truth, though I know he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.” He admitted quietly.

“The brute is trained to protect. If anything, it’s good that’s he’s sleeping next to you mother. He can protect her if any demons attack.” Hiei paused and looked to his friend. “I’m more intrigued by the kid…” He paused, trying to use his words carefully, “He’s got a strange air about him. He acts like an adult, but he looks 17.”

“Could be older then he looks. You, after all, are over 500.” Kurama said with a smirk.

“Yes, but I am a demon.”

“Hardly.” The fox said with a laugh, smiling at the glare that was thrown at him.

“What really gets me,” Hiei continued, “Is that not only did he know the language and dialect, he could tell that it was a koorime accent. There is something off about that boy.”

“The only thing off about him is that he’s probably never gotten laid,”

Meiou High School. Artemis stood in the school, and frustratedly looked down at himself. Pink, his school uniform was pink. “This is degrading,” He whispered to himself before stepping into the classroom before him. Everyone’s eyes turned to look at him, and he felt awkward. He didn’t blame them though; he would have done the same thing.

“Ah, “The teacher, woman in her late 20’s, smiled down at him, “You must be Fowl-san. You are fluent in Japanese, yes?”

The teenager rolled his ice blue eyes, “No, of course not. I came to a foreign country by myself with no knowledge of how to at least speak the native language.” Sarcasm was dripping from his voice, and he threw her a smirk with his pale lips. “Any other stupid questions you want to ask? Or are you done embarrassing yourself in front of your class?”

The teacher looked down at him wearily. “Your reputation precedes you I see.” She sighed and pointed to the red head with green eyes. “Sit next to Minamino-san. I think he’ll be able to stand your dry humor.”

Class wasn’t challenging in the least. Though, he did have to say, it was a lot better than Saint Bartleby's School for Young Gentlemen. The students here were actually highly intelligent and Artemis found he could match wits with a few of them. Very few, but still, better the Bartleby’s. And, for once, no one had dared to make fun of him. They all seemed eager for him to talk, to ask him questions about quantum physics or the theory of time travel and the space time continuum (to which Artemis found it hard to describe without sounding like he had experienced it himself).

“Did you enjoy your first day?” Kurama asked as they headed back to his home together.

He pondered it for a second before he nodded his head, “For once, yes. I was surprised with the intelligence level of the students. I’m glad I finally have people to talk to.” As an afterthought, the boy added, “No offense, Butler.”

The bodyguard resisted the urge to roll his eyes, “I’m used to it Master Fowl.” He replied with a smile.

“Kur...Shuichi!”

The three males turned to see two teens – one in green and the other in blue – running to catch up with them.

“Yusuke. Kazuma.” Kurama greeted with a nod of his head. “This is Artemis and Butler.”

“Nice to meet you.” Yusuke nodded to the strangers before turning back to the red head. “Botan’s been trying to call you. We’ve got a meeting with Koenma.”

Botan and Koenma were common Japanese names, Artemis knew. However, putting them together set warning bells off in the teens head, though he didn’t remember why. “Who is Koenma?” He asked with a furrowed brow.

“My...boss. Can you two find your way back without me?”

The Irish boy nodded. “Yes of course.” He was still distracted; somehow, he knew things were not as they seemed. He also knew that tonight would be a night full of research and little sleep. A smile grew on his face at the prospect. For once, he felt a challenge coming on.

“Computer?”

“Yes Master Fowl?”

Artemis leaned back in his computer chair and folded his hands together. “Search. Keyword: Koenma.”

After a few moments, the computer spoke to him – Artemis had programmed it to sound like Foaly out of respect for the centaur – once again, “Search complete. One match found.”

The raven haired teen smirked. He knew something was fishy about Shuichi and his friends. “Open file. Read file.”

“Koenma; age unknown; son of Lord Enma, ruler of the spirit World. Currently proceeding in his father’s absence.”

Pride welled up in Artemis’s gut. He knew it; his brain hadn’t failed him. Still, it didn’t mean anything. Not yet at least. “Computer?”

“Yes Master Fowl?”

Artemis paused for a second, the spoke, “Cross reference search with the name Botan.” If Botan showed up too, then it could not be a coincidence.

It took longer this time around. Searching through Koenma’s file was a difficult task simply because of the data gathered on the demi-god. Still, after a few moments, the computer spoke again, this time in a smug voice, “Search complete. One match found.”

“Open file. Read file.” The teen held his breath for a moment.

“Botan; age unknown; ferry guide for the spirit world, also known as a ‘grim reaper’; she also delivers messages to the Spirit Detectives for Lord Koenma.”

Artemis could breathe again, and he did; his breath coming out in pants. Was his roommate a Spirit Detective; one of the Reikia Tentei capable of immeasurable power? With a dry mouth, he spoke again. “Computer?"

“Yes Master Fowl?”

“Go back to Koenma’s file. Cross reference for the name…” He paused, then a smirk adored his lips, “Kurama.”

After a few long minutes, the computer spoke, “Search complete. No matches found.”
That couldn’t be right. Artemis furrowed his brow. “Cross reference for the name Urameshi, Yusuke.”

It only took a split second. “Search complete. One match found.”

“Open file. Read file.”

“Urameshi, Yusuke; age 17; Spirit Detective.”

It didn’t matter that Shuichi’s name wasn’t in his computer. He had them now. He leaned back in his chair with a smirk on his face. He was living with one of the most powerful beings in all of the three worlds. “Computer.”

“Yes Master Fowl?”

“I want to catch up with my history. Start from…let’s say from when the worlds separated.”

The computer searched for the appropriate file. It took a long time, but finally it found the correct one. “Search complete. Read?”

“Yes.”

“Miko-sama was a powerful miko who stumbled upon a portal through time. After shattering an ancient jewel, the young woman set out to put it back together and to protect it. Along the way she made many friends, and even more enemies, including the hanyou Naraku. After finally learning how to control her miko powers, her and her rag tag group including: a fox demon, dog demon, wolf demon, dog half demon, a demon slayer, a two tailed cat demon and a monk, managed to defeat Naraku. It was then when the demi god, King Emma came to her. He wanted her to wish on the Shikon no Tama, the jewel of four souls, in order to separate the worlds.

“Miko-sama was reluctant. She didn’t want to tear the demons away from their homes after all; they too were suffering from Naraku’s rule. In the end, she made the wish. She closed her eyes, held up the jewel, and spoke in her mind, ‘I wish that the worlds would separate into three, Maikia, Ningenkai, and Reikia. Last, I wish for the demons to live in a beautiful world.’ As the thought struck Miko-sama, she imagined their paradise and it became so. Miko-sama’s body glowed pure white and she rose into the air. The worlds changed accordingly.”

After the computer finished, Artemis thought for a second before he nodded. “Computer. What information do we have on Miko-sama?”

“Miko-sama; age unknown; she keeps the barriers intact and is the only being that does not answer to the spirit World. She trains demon slayers and her assistance is called when the Spirit Detectives cannot defeat a demon. Her true identity is unknown.”

“Who were the beings who fought against Naraku?”

“Lord Shippo, a fox demon; Lord Sesshoumaru, a dog demon; Lord Kouga, a wolf demon; Inuyasha, a dog half demon; Sango, a demon slayer; Miroku, a monk. Oddly enough, Lady Souten of the South did not battle against Naraku.”

The teen glanced at the clock. Five in the morning and Shuichi still wasn’t home. Artemis sighed and stretched his arms over his head. “Computer. Tell me everything about the Lords and Lady of the Demon World.”

“The most powerful of the Lord’s is Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands. Inuyasha is his half brother, sharing the same father. He cares for a human-turned-demon named Rin. Sesshoumaru first found Rin as a child. When the world separated, he tried to give her a human home, but she refused; he used magic to turn her into a demon. He is the most stoic of the rulers of the Demon World and is also the oldest. His choice attack is the Acid Whip he inherited from his mother. His inherited mark is a blue crescent moon on his forehead.

“The second oldest ruler is Lord Kouga of the Northern Lands. He is not nearly as strong as Sesshoumaru; however, he is just as fast; this is his most notable feature. His inherited mark is a brown paw print on his forehead.

“Next is Lord Shippo of the Eastern Lands. Lord Shippo was ‘adopted’ by Miko-sama at a very young age. He is, perhaps, the kindest of the four rulers. He is very quick and sly; his fire only burns those he wants it to. While he was not strong when Miko-sama first met him, he is now second only to Sesshoumaru. His inherited mark is a green leaf on his forehead.

“The youngest ruler is Souten of the Southern Lands. She was very young when she met Miko-sama. It was Shippo, however, who influenced her to not give in to the evil in herself. Though she is the weakest of the four, she holds strong morals and values and will fight to the death if only to save her friends. Her weapon of choice is a lightning staff left to her by her brothers. She also has a ‘pet’ dragon named Kouryuu. Her inherited mark is a yellow lightning bolt on her forehead.”

A yawn tore through Artemis’ throat and he stretched once more. “Alright computer. That is enough. Power off.” The young teen had just stumbled over to his bed and closed his eyes when his alarm clock went off. Still, he smiled; he had enjoyed himself. The best thing was that he knew for a fact the Spirit World did not know about his exploits. They had no idea he knew everything about them.

OOOOOO

A/N: Alright, this is the first chapter. Let me know what you think, please? It makes me feel good about my hard work and long nights alone with my cats. Lmao. Also, I think I might pair butler with Kurama's mother XD
